Chapter Six

Sera

The next morning, as we’re sitting and having breakfast, Dad informs me that he needs to go help out at Devil”s Garage today. He’d promised someone named Piston a few days ago that he’d come in and help him as he”d got more work than he could handle booked in at the garage today. I don’t mind him going to help; I’d hate for him to go back on his word just because of me, and I told him just that. He looked relieved after I told him that; he clearly didn”t want to let either of us down, and my stance helped ease his guilt over leaving me so soon after I arrived.

”Dad, before you leave, is there any chance you can give me Blade’s number? Other than family, he’s the only person I’ve met, and he was really nice to me.”

Dad looks at me thoughtfully, then gets a twinkle in his eye. I wonder what that is about.

“Give me your phone, and I’ll put in a few numbers that might come in handy.”

I hand him my phone, and he quickly types away before handing it back to me.

”Right, I’m going to leave you to it. If you plan on leaving The Compound, please don’t leave alone. We need to take a few precautions until we deal with Patricia and Sabbatini.”

“Of course, Dad, I promise, now go on, get out of here, and get some work done.” I say, pushing him towards the door laughing.

Once he’s out the door, I grab my phone and dial Blade”s number. After a quick conversation where he agrees to come shopping with me, we hang up. I have a feeling he won’t be long, so I quickly shove my feet into my slip-on flats, grab my bag, and go and wait outside for Blade. There is no way he can say I wasn”t ready and waiting this way.

He arrives looking hot as fuck riding his bike. I swear, I may drool slightly, but come on, who can blame a girl when a guy looks that hot riding his bike? He pulls up next to my SUV and pulls off his helmet before walking over to me.

“Ready to go?” He asks as he reaches me and holds out his hand, palm up.

I just raise my eyebrow at him, waiting for him to speak. I can guess what he”s after, but I refuse to make it easy on him.

“Keys please.” I just laugh, pull them from my jeans pocket, and drop them in his palm.

“Come on, then.” I say running towards the passenger side of the car. I can see him smiling and shaking his head at me, and I internally smile. He has a great smile; he should really do it more often.

I’m hoping I can get to know him a little better during this trip. Something about Blade intrigues me on a level I’ve never felt before. It has nothing to do with my attraction to him, though, that much I do know. No, it”s something else. He feels like a kindred soul. I’m hoping that by spending time together, I can figure out what the hell this is I’m feeling.

The journey to Devil’s Point Mall is quick. I know this is a small town, so everything is within a short driving distance. If I didn’t need essentials, we wouldn’t be making this trip, though. I hate shopping. I know most women love it, but not me. I find it annoying and tedious. I much prefer ordering what I need offline. Which is what I will be doing for almost everything else I need. Today is just about getting me some things to tide me over. I can’t keep living in the same outfit.

“This won”t take long.” I say to Blade as we walk towards the entrance.

“Take as long as you need; I know you didn’t bring anything with you.”

“I hate shopping, Blade. I’m grabbing a few things to tide me over; everything else I’m going to order online.”

“Woman after my own heart.” He says, chuckling. I can’t help chuckling too.
