Chapter 63 Maeve
MAEVE
I woke the next morning with a knot in my stomach. Not because I was in Bram’s bed with all three Butchers — that part was perfect — but because tonight they’d be going in to Ethan Todd’s compound.
For the first time since I’d started stalking him, I second-guessed my desire to kill him. Everything was finally right between the Butchers and me.
Better than right. It was good.
And yeah, I didn’t know what the future held and I still got nervous thinking about explaining our relationship to my parents, but right now the Butchers were alive and well.
Bram’s chest rose and fell under me, Poe spooning me from behind.
I could hear Remy’s breath on Poe’s other side.
They would wake up and give each other shit.
Remy would make his smoothie and I could make breakfast for Poe and Bram.
Maybe we’d take Ray for a walk or watch a Christmas movie or explore each other’s bodies all over again.
After tonight, everything might change. They could get caught.
Or worse.
“What are you thinking about, killer?”
I followed the voice to Remy, who was peering at me over Poe. He yawned and his hair flopped over his forehead.
“Honestly?” I flipped onto my back so I could see them all. “Ethan Todd.”
“What about him?” Poe asked without opening his eyes.
“I don’t know… maybe this is a mistake.”
“You’ve risked everything to make this happen,” Bram said, his voice hoarse.
I hadn’t even realized he was awake.
“I know, but that was before I had everything to lose.”
Poe tucked a piece of hair behind my ear. “Would you be able to move on if we left it alone? Like really move on knowing Todd was out there?”
I sighed. “I don’t know.”
Remy shook his head. “It’s out of your hands, killer. We’re going to end this once and for all so you can be free.”
“What if something goes wrong?” I asked.
“Nothing will go wrong,” Bram flung an arm possessively over me. “We know Todd’s still there, we’ve clocked the guards and security, and we’ll have Rafe, Nolan, and Jude. Those fuckers are experienced with more dangerous situations than this. It’ll be a walk in the park.”
I knew he was right about the details. Rafe had sent up the drone the night before to confirm Ethan was still at the compound. He’d sent the footage over late, but Ethan had been at the house, wearing his trademark black hoodie and jeans, walking between one of the guest houses and the main house.
“Bram’s right,” Remy said. “We’ll be in and out.”
Poe kissed my head. “You’ll stay here with Ray, and before you know it, we’ll be back in bed and you’ll be naked all over again.”
