Chapter 29

Twenty-Nine

Jaclyn

Present

As soon as I wake up I fling the blankets off me and run towards the bathroom. I fall to the floor in front of the toilet, lift the lid and everything from last night just spills from my mouth.

Tears fall from my eyes as I throw everything up in the toilet. Once I’m done, I close the lid and go to the sink. I immediately brush my teeth to get rid of the god-awful taste in my mouth.

What even happened last night?

I walk back inside the room once I’m done and look around.

My bag is open and the bed is a mess. I look at my clothes and see I'm wearing just a regular baggy t-shirt and shorts. I walk to the bed and lay down, throwing the covers over myself. I rest my head against the pillow and immediately smell cologne.

I lift my head and stare at the pillow.

The smell is familiar.

Woodsy, warm, and fresh scent.

I know this smell.

Did I bring someone here last night?

What did I do while I was drunk?

Last thing I remember was Max and Martin taking shots with me. Kayden was somewhere in the mix. I remember the cute bartender and I flirting but that’s it.

Shit.

Who the hell took me home and cleaned my mess?

Today I’m going to the beach with everyone. Natalia and Chris aren’t coming though because they want to spend some time with Lilah and go shopping with her.

I clean up the room a little before I change into a blue bathing suit and jean shorts.

I’ll call Junior and Brandon after Junior is done with school. I would call but they are probably already at work and school.

Even as I leave the room and go down to the lobby, I’m still trying to search my brain for what happened last night and who could have brought me back to the room.

Once I get to the beach, which isn’t a far walk, I send Kayden a text, letting him know I’m here. He said yesterday that he was going to go to the beach today because he wanted to take some pictures.

He texts that he’s near the rock bridge. I walk towards that area and look around, trying to find him.

Kayden is down by the water, pointing his camera to take a picture.

I walk towards him and end up jumping in front of his camera and posing with a smile.

Kayden smiles before snapping a picture. “Jaclyn. Always a pleasure.”

He lowers the camera and we walk towards his towel. I lay my blanket that I brought, next to him and sit down. “When are Martin and Max coming?’

“Probably in like thirty minutes. They just woke up now,” Kayden explains, putting his camera to the side. “Max had a lot to drink last night but he always gets super fucked up.”

“I bet he did.” I chuckle. “I drank a lot too. I threw up this morning but being here is kind of making me feel, that’s for sure,” I explain. “Also, about last night, do you know who might have taken me to my room?”

“Hayden. Martin said Hayden saw you flirting with the bartender, and he took you to your room after that.”

Shit.

And what kind of embarrassing shit did I do with him in my room?

“Oh,” is all I say.

What the fuck am I supposed to say?

Hayden changed me so did he see the scar again? What was he thinking about when he saw the scar?

He probably saw how much my body changed too.

Did he see the pills on my nightstand?

What was he thinking?

He thinks you’re probably crazy and need some serious help.

Did I say anything that might have gotten me in trouble or something?

God what the fuck happened?

“Why? Did something happen?” Kayden asks.

I give him a reassuring smile and shake my head. “No, I just woke up this morning and wondered how I got to my room.”

“I mean, ask Hayden about it. I’m sure he’ll tell you.”

I smile and just nod my head.

No.

I’m trying to stay away from him.

Because being around him is just causing issues. He shouldn’t be jealous of me flirting with a bartender when he has a fiancé.

He shouldn’t be this friendly with a girl who meant everything to him as he claims I did.

Eventually Max and Martin come to our spot. They brought some food with them, thank God because I haven’t eaten anything this morning.

When Martin goes in the water, I decide to join him. We swim through the waves and then just relax in the water.

He told me more about how Max and him met and what he thought of Max. He mentioned how he wants to marry Max in the near future which I think is amazing.

I keep saying how perfect Martin is for Max because I genuinely believe he is. I can tell how much Martin loves and cares for Max.

We get out of the water eventually and go back to the blankets.

Max and Martin are leaving early because they have a date planned. So we all just decide to head back to the hotel.

“I’ll see you around, Kayden,” I say as I pack all my stuff up.

“Are you going to the bachelorette in a few days?” Kayden asks.

I nod my head. “Yea, Natalia said she wants me to go with her since she doesn’t feel comfortable alone with Nicole and her friends.”

Kayden nods his head. “Okay. Well I’ll see you.”

We hug before he leaves and walks off the beach.

I sit down on my blanket, trying to clear my head.

It feels like there is just so much going on in my head that I have no clue what to do anymore.

Everything gets so loud to the point where my head feels like it’s just going to explode.

I sometimes wish everything would just take a pause or stop.

All my mind can think about is Hayden.
