Chapter 2
LUCERO
Little skillful hands hammered on my back, raining pain down on my kidneys. Every pinch and ache radiated over my body, warming in places no one had ever touched. A smile tugged at my lips as I realized he was going for every vital point he could. I knew I’d chosen right.
He’s so cute.
I welcomed it all: the pain, the heat, the pleasure, and the undeniable desire that swelled inside me just having him in my arms.
Onyx Auclair. A breathtakingly beautiful man who’d stolen my heart years ago. He was smart and elegant. And soon, he was going to be mine.
My smile grew with every curse and hit. I stumbled forward as a sharp jab sent shockwaves of pain over my spine. “Nice one.”
“What is wrong with you?” Onyx squirmed in my hold.
His accent came out thicker the angrier he got.
I knew he was French, but to hear it first hand had a ball of warmth and excitement turning in my stomach.
He normally kept it hidden—it was like my own sweet treat.
I was already getting to know him better.
I put away the newest fact and was eager to swallow up anything else he let slip.
“Nothing? I’m perfectly healthy, sorry if I’m jostling you too much.
I was supposed to be back by now and everyone is annoying me.
You have no idea how irritating my brothers can be.
Especially when Damian is trying to prove to our father that he can handle everything.
And all this is taking away from work.” I stopped for a brief second, thinking about what I just said.
“He said that, not me. This is super important to me. I'd drop everything to do this. Shit, I wouldn’t even care if the apocalypse was happening. That is how important this is to me. How important you are.”
Nice. I saved that.
I started moving again and my pace picked up just a little more.
"Put me down."
The hits stopped for a second, and I readjusted Onyx on my shoulder. “You don’t have to stop. I can take about anything.”
“What?” he asked.
I bet Onyx's face was flushed from hanging upside down.
I wanted to twist him around and carry him like the princess he was, just so I could get a good look at him.
See up close what I'd been admiring from afar.
Three goddamn long years, and I finally had the man in my grasp.
It would have been sooner, probably should have been, but my family had demanded I put off any plans to grab a known killer's attention, and I had for too damn long. It was no secret in the underbelly of the world that Black Widow killed anyone he got close to. His record had even the most hardened criminals filled with fear. My brothers’ warnings felt unwarranted.
I was more than willing to risk my life to have him.
Three years ago, I'd been ready to meet up with a client who had gotten married only a day prior.
It hadn't mattered to me; we were trying to show the Vitales, Fellocis, that we were more than capable of taking over the gap the Accetos left behind.
The importance of the meeting had become unimportant the moment he'd walked in.
“Tu peux me lécher car mes orteils sont verts."
I fumbled over every single word, trying to remember some of the French I'd learned. If it had been one of my brothers, they'd have no issues. I was the only one who struggled with languages. Even my Italian was rough, but I was sure Onyx would understand me.
"Your toes are what? What the hell is wrong with you?"
Toes?
Had I mixed up a word? I'd have to look it up online later to make sure. French was hard. I assumed because I could still understand and read Italian that French would come to me with ease. I should have known better.
I placed a hand on his firm ass as I jogged across the street. If anyone noticed me carrying him, they didn't look too closely. I stopped outside of my brother’s car and unlocked it. The trunk opened, and Onyx started squirming again.
"Goddamn pervert, get your disgusting hands off me now."
"Oh." I dropped my hand from his ass, not realizing I'd been rubbing the firm muscle there.
It felt so nice against my palm. My flesh tingled as desire and want dripped steadily throughout my body.
"Didn't want to hurt you while I ran." I put him down and caught his leg as he raised it.
Twisting him around, I placed him in the trunk.
"Wait!"
"Sorry, I'll make it up to you, promise." I smiled as I slammed the trunk down, effectively trapping the man. My phone went off again, and I snatched it out of my pocket. The family group chat was very much live as my mother's messages came through, asking questions.
Mom: Lucero, where are you?
Dad: Your mom is freaking out.
Mom: We're at the church but I'm not sure why. Lucero, your brothers aren't sure what you're up to.
Mom: You can tell me anything.
Mom: Why is your nonna here now?
Mom: Lucero Elvis Marino, I will have your hide if you continue to keep me in the dark.
Mom: And I’m worried.
My brothers weren't making it any better.
Everyone was flooding it with their own concerns, but I'd planned everything.
Today I was going to finally be complete.
There wasn't a doubt in my mind that Onyx Auclair, the Black Widow of New York, would make me whole.
He was the piece that I'd been missing. I'd be the muscle and he'd be the calculating genius I'd dedicate my life to.
Dad's contact flashed on the screen, and I promptly ignored it. He'd talk me out of what I was doing and I couldn't have that. He'd succeeded for three years, and I wasn't waiting another second.
I got behind the wheel, scrunching forward slightly.
This car was way too small but my truck was a no-go.
There was no way I was going to put my sweet delicate Onyx in the rough metal bed of my truck.
I started the car, making sure to listen out for my future husband as he no doubt looked for a way to escape from the trunk.
I'd secured it, had even locked myself in the trunk to make sure there wasn't an easy way to get out.
The thuds from the trunk stopped, and I glanced back to catch Onyx squeezing through the middle seat.
I hadn't been able to do that, so to escape that way hadn't occurred to me.
The smile I sported stretched wide to the point my cheeks started to ache.
"I knew you wouldn't have any issues escaping. " My man was amazing.
A fist aimed at my head came hard and fast. For such a little man he packed some weight behind his hits.
There was going to be a bruise there later, and the thought only made me smile harder.
Even as the blows kept coming. His nails scraped down the back of my neck, leaving behind tendrils of desire.
My cock twitched, and for a split second, I allowed myself to be distracted by desire.
I swerved, narrowly missing the car in front of me. My fingers tightened around the wheel. I'd nearly got us in an accident that could have resulted in Onyx dead. My blood ran cold as I pictured his lifeless body sprawled out on the dirty streets of the city.
"Careful." I took another punch to the face. Pain seared over the corner of my bottom lip as it split. The coppery tang of blood was a familiar taste that I easily swallowed. I glanced over at Onyx as he got ready to hit me again.
I blew out a breath, reached out for him, and shoved him into the passenger seat. I took the next right turn a bit hard and gritted my teeth as I made sure to avoid jostling him too much. A foot came at me next, and I caught his delicate ankle.
"Are you trying to piss me off?" If he kept this up, we'd end up in an accident, and then I'd lose him before I even got to have him.
"You're going to end up dead. Enough." I forced him forward and grabbed the seatbelt just as we hit a red light.
I slammed on the brakes and held Onyx tightly against the seat so he didn't get whiplash.
"See how dangerous that was?" I chastised as I firmly grabbed hold of the seatbelt. Onyx was breathing heavily. His platinum blond hair was a mess on top of his head and begged for me to touch the silky strands again.
Distracted, I hadn't watched out for his next attack.
Fluffy platinum hair was all I caught out of my peripheral before pain seared up my forearm.
My beautiful wonderful man had his mouth on me.
His teeth cut into my forearm. The pain radiated up and down to my fingertips.
My grip loosened for half a second before I kept moving.
My first love bite from him.
My chest filled with warmth at how sweet Onyx was. I hoped the bite mark was so deep they’d last a lifetime on my skin. Maybe I should get them tattooed.
I used my other hand and buckled him in. "There."
Onyx released me, blood coated his straight white teeth.
His left canine was sharper than the other one.
Another tidbit I filed away. I was loving this already.
He cursed at me in French, or maybe he was telling me how good I tasted.
Either way, I soaked it all up. Anything from him felt incredible.
He reached for the door handle, and I took off again, noticing the light had turned green.
"No, that's dangerous." I placed my hand over the buckle, not allowing him to unbuckle and jump out of the moving car. I had a feeling he was crazy enough to do it. I would, and that was how I knew he was the one for me.
Something hot and wet hit the side of my face and slid down.
I let go of the wheel for a second to swipe it away.
I met Onyx's gaze and lapped up the spit and groaned.
He tasted sweeter than I thought mixed with the coppery tang of my blood, and it was the best mixture that had ever graced my taste buds.
"Monstre."
