Chapter 32
LUCERO
Banging resounded in the penthouse, dragging me from the best sleep of my life. Onyx stirred under me and my stomach tightened. I had him back in my life. More knocking came from the door. I groaned and yanked Onyx right back under me as he went to get up.
"Lucero." He smacked my chest shoving at me. "Someone’s at the door."
"Who cares."
“You big fucking slug.” Onyx struggled for another second before giving in. "We can't spend all day in bed."
"If I make it so your legs don't work, we won't have a choice, right?"
Onyx pinched my nipple, sending electricity dancing along to my cock. I sucked in a breath through clenched teeth as I rode the pain. Instead of pulling away, I moved closer to him, practically burying him underneath me. Need twisted around me. I rubbed my cock over his soft thighs.
"You put that mass destruction back in me, and I will shove a needle in your neck," Onyx threatened.
My lips tugged up into a smile. "Oh, bella, tell me more of how you're going to kill me. Don't leave out any details."
"Please do." Damian's voice broke through the soft bubble that had surrounded us.
I snatched the covers over Onyx, and was out of bed, barreling toward my brother.
There were no words as I slammed my fist forward.
I hit the wall as Damian dropped down and landed two hits to my mid section.
He kicked my feet from under me, and I went down.
I grabbed him. The only reason he didn't fall with me was due to Nash being behind him.
"You're dead," I warned.
“Put your fucking dick away before you try and run up on me.” Damian pinched the bridge of his nose like I was the problem here. "I didn't see anything if you paid attention. I was looking the opposite way," Damian said.
Nash was busy looking up at the ceiling. "No one wants to deal with your crazy ass. Would you two get dressed and come out here already?"
"How the fuck did you get in?" Onyx asked, he had a smaller gun in his hand, his gray eyes cold.
I was certain if it hadn't been my brothers, they'd be dead long before I'd even made it over to them.
Damian held up a key as if that was all the explanation. "Before you go bitching at me, ask Lucero."
Fuck, thanks Damian. I glared at him and he had the fucking audcaity to grin. As far as older brothers went, he was evil. The moment the door shut, I knew I was in for it.
"Bella."
A pillow hit my face. "Don't bella me with that sweet voice. Why the fuck do your brothers have keys to my place?"
"Ours."
Onyx didn't look all that pleased, and I felt like I'd end up on the couch. I cleared my throat and got up off the floor. How did I go about this?
"Stop thinking and talk." Onyx's arms were crossed over his chest.
There was an array of hickeys and bite marks all over his body. Evidence of how much we loved each other last night. I couldn't help but admire every single one of them.
"I gave them a copy."
"Why?"
I rolled my neck. "It's complicated."
"Make it uncomplicated." Onyx got out of the bed, stark naked. His plump ass distracted me, turning words into mush as I lost the plot. "Start talking or you're only going to look at my ass instead of fucking it."
All I could muster was a whimper. "Onyx."
He glared at me heading toward the closet and getting dressed. The pink ruffled skirt was pulled up his legs in a slow drag and over the curve of his ass. My brain short-circuited as he did the same with the thong.
"Bella." I sounded desperate to my own ears. Need pooled in the pit of my stomach and swirled around.
"What's the matter, baby?" Onyx twisted around, his pouty lips open slightly. His legs spread as if he was inviting me in. His slender fingers moved up and down his chest in a slow motion. "Want to touch me?"
"Yes," I panted.
Everything changed in a matter of seconds. Onyx stood up straighter and twisted back around to give me his back. "Too fucking bad. Get clothes on, we have company."
I never wanted to kill my brothers more in my life. I groaned. "But?—"
He slipped past me, a white button up as his top. It wasn’t normally his style. The top three buttons were undone, and I realised how big it was on him. It was my shirt.
My chest filled with happiness at the sight. He was wearing my clothes. My cock was hard once more, and I wanted to say “who gave a fuck about my brothers.”
"This isn't fair," I shot his way.
My sinful husband didn't seem to care as he went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and whatnot.
I grabbed my phone and sighed at the amount of texts I'd missed.
All from my brothers. So they had warned me they were coming, but still, a little more time would have been nice.
I dressed as quickly as I could and handled my business in the bathroom before joining everyone else in the dining room.
Onyx was already there, sitting with annoyance written all over his face.
Instead of taking a seat, I headed for the kitchen and made him a cup of tea and myself some coffee.
Once I had the cream and sugar, I made my way back into the dining room, taking the seat next to Onyx.
I offered the tea and he took it, the frown slipping away just slightly.
I might be able to escape the dog house my asshole of a brother placed me in. Damian cocked a brow at me, and I flipped him off.
"There is coffee in the kitchen if you want some."
He grunted. "I texted you."
Nash was up and already heading over to get them coffee.
"Doesn't mean you should break into people's homes," Onyx said through tight lips. "I could have killed you."
"We aren't Lucero, we wouldn't even have let you get the opportunity."
Onyx sat up straighter. "Opportunities are for those who lack skills. You wouldn't have known I was coming."
The air in the room grew chilly the longer they stared at each other. It felt like one wrong move and all hell would break loose. Nash came in, took one look at us, and sighed.
"We used the emergency key because we were worried. And partially because Lucero wasn't responding." He set the coffee down. "All siblings agreed that once, or if, they moved out, everyone would get copies in case of emergency."
"I didn't agree to it," Onyx shot back.
Nash shrugged. "You kind of did when you said ‘I do.’"
"You know what, arguing with this family is like talking to a fucking brick wall. Just tell me why you're here."
Damian's gaze cut to me, and I realized we hadn't had our talk. I'd been so wrapped up in winning Onyx back, I'd forgotten. A single groan worked its way free.
"I want to make a move on Régis Monet," I said.
"What?" Onyx put his tea down. I could feel his gaze boring into the side of my face.
"He's a business partner we agreed to on mutual terms," Damian said.
It wasn't a no, and I knew at the end of the day, Damian would always put family first, but I had to get him to see that first. He was for moving our family forward, putting us higher in the underworld.
"He's a threat to Onyx, and I won't let anyone that puts my husband's life in danger live."
Damian rubbed his chin in thought, his gaze moving between the two of us. Nash was silent next to him, but I wasn't stupid, I knew my brothers probably talked about it prior to coming here.
"You're in business with that sick fuck?" Onyx asked.
Damian held up a hand. "We don't look into personal matters that do not concern us. As long as what they do doesn't affect my family, I do not care."
Onyx looked ready to slit my brother's throat. I placed a single hand on his thigh and squeezed.
“I suggest you start fucking looking,” Onyx spat. “Associate with scum, and I’ll have to handle that.”
My brother sighed and the tired look came over his face. The one he got anytime we had a sibling meeting. There were always insane demands from at least one or all of us.
“Ma said you’re going to have more gray hair before you hit forty if you keep stressing like this,” I pointed out. “You trying those breathing exercises Emir suggested?”
Damian’s left eye twitched in that way that made me think he’d had too much coffee in the last few hours. "How are you going to do this?" he asked, ignoring such wise words from our own mother.
I shrugged. "Break into his home and break his face."
"Why is he so simple?" Nash grumbled under his breath.
"Hey, it's worked in the past."
Damian shook his head. "You won't be able to get to him. He's guarded at all times."
"I can handle it on my own," Onyx said.
My stomach twisted. "I'm not saying you can't, bella, but?—"
"I am." Damian leaned forward, clasping his hands together. "If you could have, you would have. But since I know he's walking around I’m going to assume you have some issues pulling the trigger.”
Onyx’s fist balled up on the table, his pouty lips turned down in a frown. I did what any logical thinking husband would do. I picked him up and sat him proudly on my lap.
“Stop flirting with my husband,” I warned Damian.
“You can not be serious.” My brother stared at me for a long while, his frown deepening with every passing second. “I wouldn’t flirt with him even if I was paid.”
“Fuck you. It’d be a fucking prize to even have me spit in your direction,” Onyx bit out.
“I feel like we’re getting off topic here.
” Nash passed over a sheet of paper. “Lucero, no one is flirting with Onyx.” He held up a hand.
“Nothing to do with how attractive or unattractive you are. Shit, can we just talk business?” He tapped on the sheet of paper.
“Took us a while, and we might owe some people some favors, but we figured out who contracted the hit on Lucero.”
Onyx snatched it up as I looked over his shoulder at it. I had no idea what I was even looking for, and to be honest, I didn’t care who set me up. Maybe I should send them an edible arrangement. Because of them, I got to have Onyx.
"What the hell?" Onyx slammed the piece of paper down. “That makes no sense, why the fuck would he hire me?”
I reached for the paper but Onyx wasn't letting it go.
"You have to realize how fucking insane this is, right? Even for that bastard."
I thought about the list of people we suspected. “Was it the guy I beat the shit out of in front of his kids?”
Onyx twisted around in my lap and he gave me that look. The one that said ‘shut the fuck up right now or you’re not getting any ass.’ I audibly shut my mouth and smiled like the good boy I knew I could be.
Nash cleared his throat, hiding away his laughter. One look at Damian, and he was looking anywhere but at me. His hand was covering his mouth.
Fuckers.
"Régis Monet set you up,” Nash said.
Well, he was for sure not getting an edible arrangement. I had never met the man prior to a few months ago, so why the fuck would he put a hit out on me?
“It's the only logical theory we have at the moment. But I'm guessing he thought you killing Lucero would have turned the entire family on you." Nash pointed at me. “His plan failed, not knowing how obsessed Lucero was with you.”
They all looked at me, and I couldn’t help but smile. “True love, not just obsession.”
"As for why he approached us after, I'm guessing to understand what was happening. It’s not like you haven’t killed your husbands before. He probably wanted to have some insight in order to plan his next move. Using us against you is a possibility as well."
"Fils de pute de connivence." Conniving son of a bitch . Onyx shoved the paper back as if seeing it only pissed him off more."So what, you're protecting that kid fucker?"
Damian frowned, his jaw clenched tight before he opened and closed his mouth.
"No," Nash answered.
I hadn't met many people who could go toe to toe with Damian and not back down, outside of our family. It only showed me Onyx was exactly where he needed to be.
"Then what?" Onyx spat.
A muscle along Damian’s jaw ticked. "Se non ti amasse ti pianterei una pallottola nel cranio, cazzo."
"Threaten my husband again, and I will kill you," I warned. I may not speak it often but I understood Italian just fine.
Damian grunted in acknowledgment. "He messed up the deal the moment he tried to come for my family. He put a hit out on Lucero and he threatened you."
Onyx's eyes widened slightly. I wanted to say “See, you're family” but kept it to myself for now. I'd remind him later.
"We came up with a plan since neither one of you did," Nash said.
My husband squinted at my brothers. "You ever think this family has some real issues with boundaries?"
To my family's credit, we just happened to be close. It wasn't always great, but it was what we had.
"Complain all you want but you want this guy dead and we're bringing it to you." Damian cleared his throat. "I have no issues handling the problem on my own, but something tells me you want in."
"And I do," Onyx added, but he leaned forward, no doubt just as interested in the plan as I was.
The fucker was going down. I'd never let him hurt my husband or my brother-in-law ever again.
