Chapter 6 #2

Remaining silent, Brady paid attention to the interaction between Jackson and Dylon, knowing from his past experiences it might shed some light on some of his lingering doubts.

Not that there were many left, but after so many defeats, it was still hard for him to believe this time would be different.

Stealing a glance at Mystia, he found some of the tension in her body had abated, softening her face into the loveliness he was used to seeing.

There was a bond of affection between her, Jackson and Dylon and, for the first time, he wondered how that had been forged.

Hearing his name mentioned, he set aside his musings, tuning back to the conversation.

“Dylon, I’m assigning you to help Brady put an end to the danger facing Carson and Remy,” Jackson said.

“With my permission, Oracle has given him a brief summary of our abilities, but I’ll leave it to you to provide the details.

Just so we’re clear…Brady has my full support, and anything he needs, he is to get. ”

Nodding, Dylon turned to Brady. “Why don’t we have a sit down…get to know each other. I can also answer any of your questions at that time.”

“Uhm…maybe tomorrow morning?” Brady replied, unsure when he’d be leaving for France.

Picking up on Brady’s unasked question, Jackson said, “According to Mystia, you’ll have several days before you have to be in France.

It will give you time to get to know my brothers better and work out any issues with Dylon.

If you have any problems or concerns, please bring them to me and I’ll see what I can do. ”

Seeing Brady nod in response, Dylon said, “Great. Then tomorrow morning at 10.”

Rising, Jackson held out his hand, clasping Brady’s. “Thank you very much. I owe you a big debt of gratitude for agreeing to help me save my brother and his family.”

Standing, Brady felt his cheeks redden. He wasn’t use to such effusive appreciation, especially when he viewed his assignment as only doing the right thing. After nodding his head, he followed Mystia out of the study, heading back to his room for more of those rose petal cookies.

Jackson waited until Brady and Mystia were out of hearing distance, before looking intently at Dylon and asking, “Any trouble with the men following Sawyer and his mates?”

“Nope, they slowed down as they drove past, but we captured their faces on the security cameras. Zane is tracking them down. Glenn also gave me the photos he took at the truck stop so that should help. By the way, did Sawyer tell you they were attacked in LA?”

“No…and neither Hunt or Mase mentioned it to me, so what happened?”

“Don’t know. Sawyer killed them and, so far, Glenn’s contact hasn’t been able to find out who they were,” Dylon said.

“See what you can find out. And I think it’s time for me to meet my cuz’s mates,” Jackson said, smiling as he stood.

“I’ll be with Zane,” Dylon said as he headed out the door.

“Thanks,” Jackson said before leaving his study.

Frowning at the news of an attack on his cousin and mates, Jackson made a mental note to speak to Hunt about it once more information surfaced.

Although he wanted to push Sawyer for an explanation now, he decided not to; it could wait until morning when he’d be meeting with him, Alex, and Glenn about their gifts.

Descending the staircase leading to the hospital, he heard Sawyer’s pleading voice floating down the hallway.

Remembering the same tone in Steel’s voice during his pregnancy, Jackson was chuckling as he reached the examining room door.

Knocking, he called out, “Mac, Sawyer…everything all right?” Hearing no response, Jackson entered, finding Mac standing just inside the doorway.

Glancing around he saw Sawyer trying to undress one of his mates.

Sawyer shot a glance at Glenn. “Just don’t stand there, help me!”

“I don’t need any help,” Alex said, petulantly. “I am fully capable of doing it myself. I just don’t see the need for it.”

Shrugging, Glenn said, “I agree with buttercup. Mac can examine him with his clothes on.”

“No…no, that won’t do at all. Mac needs to do a full work-up to make sure the pup wasn’t hurt with your wild driving,” Sawyer insisted, giving Glenn a dirty look.

“He’s not a pup, he’s a tiger cub…and a fox cub,” Alex said, softly.

Recognizing a Mexican stand-off when he saw one, Jackson took Mac aside and asked, quietly, “Is it necessary for Alex to undress?”

Shaking his head, Mac murmured, “Nope, Sawyer’s got it wrong, but nothing’ll change his mind. My twin is infected with Dadzilla…a disease that goes away only when the baby is born.”

Chuckling, Jackson knew about it quite well, having been exposed to it when Steel came down with it during his pregnancy.

Stepping further into the room, he sent out a wave of Alpha power toward Sawyer who tilted his head in shock.

Glancing over at Alex and Glenn, he noted the tiger shifter was also affected by his Alpha power but Alex was not.

How interesting…something to ask Oracle about.

Pulling back his power, Jackson smiled at the unique shifter. “Hi Alex, I’m Jackson, Sawyer’s cousin and Alpha of the Blackwood Pack. Welcome.”
