Epilogue

After shutting down his computer, Vasile lifted his phone from his desk, slipping it into a small bag that held the rest of his electronics.

Brady didn’t say how long he needed him, but it didn’t matter; his coven would be in good hands.

Rising, he glanced at his best friend, Nikolai, grinning at the frown he wore.

“Those wrinkles will be permanent if you keep doing that.”

“Fuck off,” Nikolai muttered. “I wouldn’t be frowning if you’d just agree to take a few of our guards with you.”

“I told you, Brady wants me to come alone.”

Throwing his hands up in frustration, Nikolai growled, “I got it…but…”

“There’s nothing devious about the request,” Vasile replied. “My friend found his Fated Mate…who happens to be a vampire…and he feels his mate would be more comfortable with me than with a different paranormal.”

“That’s the part that doesn’t make sense to me,” Nikolai said. “Why not a magic user? After all that’s what your friend is.”

“I’m not sure…” Vasile said, pausing for a moment. “But I trust Brady. If he thinks his mate would be happier with me while he’s gone, then that’s good enough for me.”

Nikolai stood. He wasn’t going to change his leader’s mind but that didn’t mean he liked it. “When are you leaving?”

“Mystia should be here within the hour…meantime, I need to pack,” Vasile said, heading out of his office.

Climbing the stairs to his suite of rooms, his mind went back to Brady’s message, smiling to himself again at his friend’s good fortune in finding his mate.

He was happy for him, but also thankful he, himself, hadn’t been so “blessed.” From an early age, Vasile knew he wasn’t cut out to be a mate to anyone and was grateful the Fates apparently agreed.

He’d had many discussions with Brady about this—always ending with them agreeing to disagree.

His friend’s assertion that the Fates gave everyone a mate never swayed him from his position—no matter how many examples his friend had given to refute it.

He supposed he should be grateful Brady didn’t see him for what he really was; it would probably make things easier if he did.

Then, maybe it was better not to disclose it; it might lead to the end of their friendship and that he didn’t want to lose.

Opening the door to his closet, he took out a small leather satchel, tossing it on the bed.

Gathering the items he’d need, Vasile moved quickly around the room, his mind focused on his friend’s terse message.

His gut told him something wasn’t quite right but his questions would have to wait till later.

Buckling the bag closed, Vasile grabbed it off the bed, just as someone knocked.

“Vasile, your ride has arrived,” Nikolai called, through the door.

“Thanks, I’ll be right down.” Glancing around the room, Vasile was satisfied nothing had been forgotten. Then, shutting the door quietly behind him, he headed downstairs to greet Mystia.

It was time to meet Lucius.

There’s much more to Brady and Lucius’ story, but for now, they are in love and happy, something neither thought would ever happen to them. And you will see more of them in the next book as Brady tries to fulfill his vow to liberate the low-level magic users.

Be there when he, Remy, and Carson confront the Witches’ Governing Council and the feathers fly. And, of course, someone will meet their Fated Mate…and much more.

Hugs and Kisses, Mary
