Chapter Forty
Delicious & Vicious
Ziggy: Has anyone heard from Frey?
Bowie: No, not for days. He went off Friday and we had plans for me to go with him and Emmy to the park and he never showed. I think he’s fallen out with me ‘cause he never answered my messages.
Ziggy: Don’t be daft. It’s got to be something else. Booker hasn’t been at work either for the last few days. Just wondering if anyone knew if they were on a trip or something and I’d missed the memo.
Bowie: Oh, do you think it could have something to do with Emmy? She’s not sick, is she?
Hollis: Nothing is wrong with Emmy and Frey would have contacted you if he could.
Bowie: What do you mean… if he could? Has something bad happened to him?
Hollis: No. Think about it, Bowie…
Ziggy: What Hollis is trying to avoid saying is that Frey became otherwise occupied with his alpha. Right, Hollis?
Hollis: Nicely put Ziggy and yes. It seems what happened was… a little unexpected.
Isley: How can it be unexpected? It’s a heat. We all know when they happen because they are as regular as clockwork or why else have a calendar for work so we can plan to be absent? What am I missing? I feel there is something amiss here, or why would we be having this conversation?
Wilder: Evidently something. Do you know anything Monty? Lennon? Now that I come to think about it, Frey never took the same amount of time as everyone else. Was he on blockers? Those things can be pretty nasty. Maybe now he’s with Booker, he stopped them and got his heat unexpectedly?
Ziggy: Maybe we should just see what Frey has to say on the subject… if anything.
Wilder: You know something, don’t you?
Hollis: Don’t pester Ziggy.
Wilder: Hey, he was the first to ask if we’d heard or seen Frey, I’d like to point out. So it’s only to be expected we’d ask questions!
Hollis: Point taken Wilder. But let’s wait and see what Frey wants to share with us. And maybe, Wilder, you could make better use of your time and send me the report I asked for an hour ago?
