Chapter 4
Jack
In a frenzy of anger I go to Maxine’s home office with every intention of tearing her office apart. But when I got there, I found that her laptop was open and when I tapped the space bar, the screen popped up on a site that said Cheating Wives Club.
With my jaw hanging wide open, I paged down to an entry that was sent shortly after I left the house. It was a text string with a fella named Jason. There was a date made for an hour after the posts. The message was for a hookup at a hotel somewhere here in Bellevue.
I sent a copy of her entire Club message strings to my laptop including the photos and dick pictures that the men had sent to her.
There were messages from men that I did not want to take the time to read right now.
I carefully backed out of the site erasing tonight’s history and made it a point to close out of the laptop turning it off since I think she has no idea she left it on and open.
After a couple of tumblers of Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey, I rolled into bed about half past 1am. The whiskey did its job and allowed me to relax and go to sleep.
It was 10am when I got out of bed. After a quick shower and a high protein fruit smoothie, I went out to do my 5 mile daily run that I missed out on the last three days.
I felt my body relaxing while I chugged along my normal route.
My mind seemed to clear and I am thinking that perhaps I should take Loni’s offer to come live with her in her condo in Seattle.
Knowing what I know about Maxine now I do not see a way that I will want to continue being married to her.
As the saying goes, once a cheater…always a cheater.
And I do not want to be a cheater anymore.
It was half past noon when Maxine came into the house. She raced through the living room while I was pouring myself a cup of coffee in the kitchen and ran straight to her bedroom and slammed the door.
When I knocked on her door and called through the door that we needed to talk, she screamed at me to go away and leave her alone. “I have nothing to say right now,” she yelled.
“I’m moving out. Give me a call when you want to discuss the divorce,” I yelled through the door. “No Jack, Don’t end us like this. Please, just give me a week or so to get my thoughts together. I don’t want us to be over,” she pleaded through the door in deep sobs.
“I’ll give you till a week from today. Then we will sit down and discuss the future,” I told her. “Until then I am going to stay at a friend’s house so you can have the time alone to figure out what hell you want to do,” I advised her.
After I packed a weeks’ worth of clothes, I called one of those Room and Suites Hotels in Seattle and made a reservation for the next 8 days thinking that I should also take some time alone to figure out my path forward.
Sure, I would love to move forward with Loni.
But I need to be sure I am over Maxine before that.
What made Max step out on me after all these years?
Did I do something wrong? Is there something bad about me that Max can’t live with anymore?
What did I do to deserve this? Those thoughts filled my mind while I made the drive to the hotel in Seattle.
Since it was too early to check in to my room yet, I took myself down to Pike’s Market Place to stroll along the waterfront and clear my mind.
While I am there I eat a late lunch at a fast food place on the waterfront and then check out the famous Aquarium before walking back to where I parked my Chrysler 300 wagon.
A lot of my coworkers make fun of the fact that I am the only one in the agency that does not drive a SUV.
I point out that my vehicle has tons more storage space then their Vehicles and with the weight of my car and studded snow tires I can pretty much make it anywhere I want to go even in the snow.
I also point out that the storage space is often needed for my particular job with the agency. I always brag that my insurance bill is probably half of what their fancy SUV’s cost them.
I stopped at a store and bought me a 750Ml bottle of Jack Daniels that I stuck into my luggage case before checking into the hotel. I was pleased to find that the pool stays open till 10pm as well as the large jacuzzi just next to the indoor pool.
Since I didn’t sleep too well last night and that I did a lot of walking around today, I took a short nap in the afternoon. I tossed and turned still anxious about the state of my marriage. Also, I had some wonderfully lurid dreams about Loni.
The more I think about her membership with that Cheating Wive’s site, the angrier I get. She has been cheating on me regularly for over six months that I know of. I feel like an idiot that I did not take up Loni’s offers over the time she has been my secretary.
