Shark

I t’s late by the time I get to the small apartment complex. His place is dark, but as I approach, I catch the faint flicker of light, maybe a TV. My knuckles hit the door, echoing loudly in the quiet air surrounding me. If he’s asleep, he’s about to get woken the fuck up.

“It’s a little late,” he starts as the door cracks open. But his eyes quickly widen in surprise as he takes in my dark appearance on his doorstep. I’m definitely not who he was expecting.

“Shit, who are you? I…uh… I think that maybe you’ve got the wrong apartment,” he stutters.

“You Alex?” I question roughly.

“Uh…yeah,” he answers hesitantly.

“Then this is the right fuckin’ apartment,” I answer as the sound of faint moaning comes from inside. I lift my palm, planting it on the door and pushing it easily out from under him.

“Hey,” he whines in response.

“Damn, man. Didn’t even want to turn off the porn before answering the door,” I observe, seeing a laptop sitting on a small coffee table playing some heavy girl on girl action.

“I thought you might be Carly, my neighbor. Sometimes she joins me,” his face turns red as he shares more than I need to hear.

“Nope. Not Carly,” I offer before stepping through the open door and quickly closing it with a loud snap.

“I can see that. Who are you?” he asks bravely.

“Who I am doesn’t matter right now. Now shut that shit off and take a fuckin’ seat,” I instruct. Luckily, he can see I’m not someone to argue with and he does as he’s told.

“Now, let’s try to keep this nice and easy. I’m going to ask you a few questions and I want yes or no answers. Do you understand?” I ask.

“Yes,” he answers.

“Do you have a friend named Roxy?”

“Yeah. I work…” he starts but I raise my hand, lifting my Glock along with it.

“I said yes or no only. I don’t need the extra shit,” I tell him and his eyes go wide at the sight of my piece in my hand.

“Okay…okay… I’m sorry,” his voice shakes.

“Did Roxy introduce you to someone named Scarlett?” I question, trying to stay composed despite my growing rage as I look at this prick.

“Yes,” he answers.

“Did you offer Scarlett a ride home tonight?” I ask.

“Yes,” he repeats.

“Now I’m ready for some details,” I say before taking a seat in the chair opposite him, resting my gun on my thigh.

“If this is about the girl, I thought she was down to…” he starts and I quickly cut him off.

“Don’t finish that fucking sentence,” I warn.

“Did you touch her?” I growl.

“No…no,” he whines.

“But you tried, didn’t you, motherfucker?” I ask, lifting my Glock again, but this time pointing it squarely in his face. “And when she said no, you threw her out on the side of the road, alone. Do you have any idea who she is?”

“No, I just thought she was a friend of Roxy’s,” he explains, looking about ready to piss his pants.

“Do you recognize my cut? Do you know who I am?” I ask and his eyes finally focus on the leather I’m wearing.

“Fuck. You’re a Savage,” he realizes.

“Good, you know. Saves me the time of having to explain. Now, let’s get back to Scarlett,” I start. “That sweet girl, the one you left alone on the side of the road, she’s the daughter of the Vegas charter president, and the sister of the vice president. Boy, you really fucked yourself,” I grin, finally laying the truth on him.

“Shit…” he breathes, turning pale.

“Let this be a fucking lesson. From now on, if a girl says no, you fucking listen. You take her home and you walk her to the God damn door. Then you can go back out and find some willing pussy to play with. You don’t try to force her fucking hand,” I tell him. “And now, most importantly, you stay the fuck away from Scarlett. You can bet your ass that I’ll be keeping tabs on you, and if you so much as breathe her name, I will come back here and next time I won’t be this nice,” I explain.

“Are we fuckin’ clear?” I growl in question.

“Yeah, I get it. And I’m sorry,” he offers.

“Good. Now, I’ll let you get back to your late-night jerk off session,” I can’t help but crack a smile as I stand and holster my piece.

Within seconds I’m out the door and back on my bike. I’ll be watching this asshole and if he even puts a toe out of line, I’ll be back here to unleash hell.

???

It’s after two by the time I get back to the clubhouse. I manage to slip in, unnoticed by anyone still lingering. I tap lightly on Scarlett’s door, to announce my presence, but this time I don’t wait for an answer. Other than the glowing light from the muted TV across the room, it’s dark when I step inside.

Both Scarlett and Roxy are curled on the bed together, seeming to be asleep. But as I start to move across the room towards a large leather chair, Roxy’s head lifts from her pillow.

“Where’d you go?” she whispers.

“Had some business to take care of,” I tell her, sinking down into the welcoming cushions.

“Did you kill him?” she questions, her voice barely audible.

“You really shouldn’t ask shit like that. But no, I gave him a very strong warning,” I share, unclipping my Glock from my body, and I’m sure she understands my meaning.

“Are you sleeping here?” she asks.

“Probably won’t sleep much, but I’m staying,” I answer, finally relaxing my head back and closing my eyes.

I hear Roxy shift around on the bed for a second before the room goes quiet again. I’ll stay here until Scarlett wakes and I can finally talk to her. Right now, she needs to rest and there’s nothing for me to do but wait.
