Chapter 3
When Lola leaves my office, I feel anxious. I grab my phone to check for messages or calls. Nothing yet. I try to go back to reading, but I can't—the whole situation won't get out of my head.
Marco was supposed to talk to her father, to try to bring his other daughter here. But I don't know how it's going to go, whether he'll agree.
I think about her eyes on me—damn, I don't know what this girl is doing to me.
I imagine her on top of me or underneath me all the time.
That hair falling over my face, my lips claiming hers, my hands roaming those curves, her sweating and moaning my name.
Fuck, that image goes straight to my cock, which is already stirring to life.
This is desire, lust, and that's fine—she's a beautiful, very attractive woman. But she's a virgin. Damn, I shouldn't feel desire for a girl who's never experienced sex. If it weren't for that, we could have casual sex, but there's no chance of that.
She only speaks to me when necessary. Maybe as the days go by she'll open up, or maybe not. She's perfect, but she's sad, and I know that if her sister comes to stay with her, that sadness will disappear.
My phone rings and I answer. It's Giovani, my brother.
“Lorenzo, we need you here at club five. We have to talk about the weapons shipment coming in from overseas.”
“Damn it, Gio, I put you guys in charge of handling things and you all act like whiny babies chasing after me. I have to solve everything.”
“Why do you think that is, brother? Could it be because you think everything we do is incompetent?”
“I'm heading there, but we're going to talk about this. I need some time for myself right now.”
“What do you mean?”
“I want to focus on something that's been tormenting my mind.”
“A woman...?”
“Mind your own business, Giovani.”
“Be careful, Lorenzo. You saw what happened with Veronica.”
“All right, bye.”
I hang up. I grab the car keys and head to the kitchen. When I walk in, those bewitching eyes are on me again. She's biting into a strawberry, and the sight of her mouth wrapped around the fruit sends a jolt right where it shouldn't.
She's driving me crazy—I'm sure of it now.
I'm thinking about what it would be like to fuck this woman.
I shake my head to push away these thoughts.
I'm a man who's got that part of my life figured out.
I don't get attached to the women I sleep with, and that's all I'd want with her—but there's no chance.
I know the girl has never had sex, let alone casual sex.
“Girls, I'm heading to the city to take care of some things. Lola, if you need anything, talk to Yn.”
“Okay.”
I leave and head to one of my clubs. I have a meeting with Marco and Giovani. They have something to say that's supposedly important. I sit down, light a cigar, and pour some whiskey into a glass—no ice. Giovani walks in.
“Lorenzo.”
“Gio, how's it going?”
“Loaded with new information.”
Marco walks in with some papers and sets them on the table.
“Lorenzo, look at these spreadsheets. They show one total for the weapons, but the truck that's bringing them has a different count. Word is Molina's group is trying to skim weapons from the trucks for themselves.”
“But how are they going to do that?” I ask.
“At minimum, they're going to steal the shipment. They might even kill some of our guys,” Gio comments.
“Which count is correct? The spreadsheet or the truck?” I want to know.
I grab the paper and start reading to try to understand better. Marco sits across from me and keeps spinning his dagger, which irritates me a bit, but I don't complain.
“The truck has more than the spreadsheet shows—the difference is what they're planning to steal,” Marco states.
He comes closer and shows me the quantities listed on the paper I just set down on the table.
“How did they find out about this shipment?” I press.
I run my hand over my chin, staring at nothing in particular, trying to figure out who the culprit might be.
“Someone—we don't know who,” Giovani says, then continues. “Marco and I have been thinking about planting someone inside. What do you think?”
My brother approaches the table too, pours a shot of whiskey into a glass, and hands it to me, then does the same for himself and Marco.
“I think it's a good idea. Send Felipe and Alessandro—they're trustworthy. Not that the others aren't, but those two are sharp and will bring us what we need.”
“Sounds good, but how do we pull this off?”
Marco stands in front of me, ready to carry out what we just came up with.
“Send an email to their associates saying you're sending two more guys over. Pretend you're their boss or capo.”
“I'll take care of it.” Marco sits at the computer on the other desk.
“As for the robbery—is the truck driver trustworthy?”
“Very much,” Marco says.
“Then have him change the route of the trip, just to be safe.”
“I’ll contact him as soon as I send the email.”
“Great, is that taken care of?”
“All good.”
“Marco, did you look into what I asked you about Aurora’s sister?” I stand up this time, wanting to go home.
“Yes, but the old man won’t budge. I was thinking of offering a monthly payment—what do you think?” He stops typing and looks at me.
“Use whatever argument you have to, just get the girl to her sister.” I search for the car keys in my pockets.
“All right.”
“Marco, when they respond to the email, let me know. I’ll send those two in to infiltrate,” Giovani says.
“Brother, don’t worry. We’ll handle this.”
“All right.”
“Do either of you know when Paolo gets back?”
“What do you mean? You’re the Don, don’t you know when your Underboss is coming back?”
“I didn’t talk to him, Giovani.”
“In a few more days. He’s taking the opportunity to check out some business for the organization,” Marco informs.
“Okay, I’m heading back home.”
“Okay.”
I leave and return to the mansion, leaving them in charge of handling things.
