Chapter 26

I wake up and Lorenzo is still sleeping beside me. I gaze at the gorgeous man next to me—I’m so in love.

I laugh to myself remembering how jealous I felt hearing him call that woman Vida. The moment I heard it, a whole movie played out in my head.

The woman is beautiful. She was wearing pants and a leather jacket, tall, with heels that brought her up to Lorenzo’s height. Not to mention she kissed him on the cheek.

How embarrassing, my God.

I shift, trying to get up, but Lorenzo drapes his arm over me. I try to move it, but he pulls me closer against his body. I feel his strong muscles against my back and stay still. Soon he turns over and I slip away.

I crawl toward the edge, and just as I’m about to get out of bed, my foot gets tangled in the blanket and I fall, knocking over the nightstand. Lorenzo jumps up and is instantly standing in front of me with a gun in his hand.

“What happened? Lola, what happened?” His eyes are wide.

“Oh, Lorenzo, put that gun away. I just fell.”

“Did you hurt yourself?” He lifts me up.

“No. I’m fine.”

Lorenzo goes to the bathroom, comes out a while later, and starts getting dressed.

His phone rings. I hand it to him and see Paolo’s name on the screen.

Lorenzo is still getting dressed and puts it on speaker.

“Talk to me, Paolo.”

“Lorenzo, I got here and helped Takamura receive the weapons. Three of the new ones are definitely missing, plus two from the existing stock.”

“And what did you tell him?” Lorenzo buttons his shirt and I drool while listening to the call.

“I asked him not to spread the word that the shipment came up short, that we’re already investigating what happened.”

“Great, come here now. I’m waiting for Officer Vida to bring me what I asked for, then we’ll get together and figure out how to handle this.” He tucks his shirt into his pants.

“Okay, I’m leaving today.”

“Great.”

He hangs up, looks at me with a mischievous expression, and licks his lips.

“Stop looking at me like that, Lola.” He adjusts himself through his pants and buttons them.

“How am I looking at you?” I bite my lip.

“Like you want to get me in trouble, and I have a lot to take care of today. I can’t do what I’m dying to do.”

I get up and walk over to him, getting close and running my hand over his chest.

“What do you want to do?” I open my nightgown.

Lorenzo pulls me close and kisses me. The intercom buzzes—the car is ready. He pulls back and makes me a promise.

“I have an important meeting now, but when I get back, you’re going to pay for this.”

He kisses me again and leaves.
