CHAPTER 37
“Amara! What a surprise?!” Anna grabbed Amara by the hand and pulled her in a hug pushing past Rafael who glared at Amara. There was a hidden promise in his eyes that made Amara want to run for hills.
Rafael gave her his infamous cold glare as Anna obliviously pulled Amara in.
Amara noticed another presence stepping out of the elevator. Her eyes widened for a fraction of a second before she felt a chill running down her spine.
Abigail smirked. “Amara. Long time no see.” His politeness seemed like a mockery as Amara managed a small smile which further pissed Rafael who groaned in distaste and let out a frustrated sigh.
Amara felt disgust ripping through her skin as Abigail looked suggestively at her. But that’s not what she was worried about. Rafael scared her more.
“Let’s go in,” Rafael mumbled without taking his eyes off her. She nodded and Anna followed them. The living room was chilling and Amara realized how much she suddenly missed the warmth Kaelith’s home provided her.
Shrugging the thoughts away, she quickly rushed to the kitchen to bring some snacks. That was not the only reason to go there, she needed to calm herself. She unconsciously rubbed the back of her neck and held the counter taking deep breaths.
Anna sat on the couch crossing her long legs as the leather skirt rode up her thighs. Amara felt immediately intimidated by the way she looked. So perfect and beautiful.
Amara then looked down at her own clothes, a dull grey dress, wrinkled and filled with paint. She felt underdressed in her own home.
“How are you know? Rafael said you were doing good.” Anna asked looking over her shoulder with a smile. Amara managed another smile with shaking lips.
“I am doing good. How are you?” She mumbled lowly feeling Rafael and Abigail’ s penetrating gazes. Both held two different motives yet the same promise of hurt and pain.
“Ah, wish I could say the same. Life’s been a bitch to me.” Anna dreamily sighed thanking Amara as the latter brought glasses of berry juice. Rafael clenched his jaw as Amra avoided his eyes. “No money, no honey.”
Anna seemed oblivious to the tension between the couple as she opened her leather jacket and threw it on the couch.
Amara sat on the corner of the couch with her hands clasped on her lap. Like a scared little puppy.
Abigail observed her with a slight smirk. Too innocent and pure. The innocence he’d soon taint. He thought and giggled at the thought and sipped on the juice.
“Says the woman with a multi-billion company.” Abigail interrupted earning a glare from Anna. “Don’t complain now. You’ve rejected six men in past two weeks.”
Anna rolled her eyes.
“Why do you care if I date or not? Do you want to date me? That’s why you’re being so nosy?” She asked with a smirk. Abigail scoffed, and his eyes darted towards Amara.
“You’re not my type.” He said shrugging his shoulders.
“Then what is your type?” Anna mumbled with a sass in her tone. Amara timidly fidgeted with her fingers hoping for Rafael not to look so scary.
She knew he’ d punish her once his friends were out. She dreaded that moment. So, she just prayed that he’d forget everything and would let her be for the night. Amara was so engrossed in her own thoughts that she failed to notice Abigail’s mischievous gaze.
“Something… I can break easily.” He completed licking his lips. Amara sensed his eyes and looked at him. There was something in his eyes that made her uneasy. She swallowed hard taking her eyes off him and lowering her head to the floor.
Anna choked on her drink and snapped her head at Abigail. “That’s dark. Anyways, you don’t have to cook anything, Amara. We just ate out.”
Amara stilled and nodded.
“I heard Kaelith also rented a penthouse in this building,” Anna said suddenly. Amara stiffened. Her eyes automatically turned to Rafael who had an unreadable expression on his face.
She felt her heart clenching hard but kept her mouth shut. Rafael knew and that meant he knew where she was today.
“Rented? He owns this fucking building. The man’s too rich to rent an apartment.” Abigail scoffed.
Rafael’s jaw ticked.
Anna flipped him off and looked at Amara fidgeting on the couch. Her eyes moved to the front of Amara’s dress.
“Where were you, Amara? With the paint on your clothes?” Amara swallowed feeling three pairs of eyes on her. She felt like she was being interrogated.
Feeling like a mute, she swallowed hard and tried to find her words.
Talking about Kaelith suddenly made her remember everything he did to her. From his touches to his kisses. Her skin heated, and a warm blush crept all over her neck and ears. Her heart started fluttering and the butterflies in her stomach started dancing.
She cleared her throat and found her voice. “I… I just spilt the paint on myself while I was…while I was…painting…and—” she stammered not knowing what she was saying.
Anna’s phone rang and she stiffened. Amara was thankful that God saved her from this humiliating situation.
Anna stood up, the short leather skirt reaching her mid-thigh making her long legs seem more toned and sexier. Amara felt ashamed of herself and couldn’t help but compile herself with her. She watched as Anna gracefully turned around and her long hair moved like a waterfall.
“Oh. It’s Dad. I’ll be back in a moment.” She excused herself. Amara was watching Anna move to the balcony when Abigail took an opposite to Amara.
Amara felt her breathing quickened when she saw Rafael storming towards her. Before she could react, he was leaning down and grabbed her arm harshly.
“Where were you?” He seethed. His eyes screamed with pure red-hot rage. Amara felt her breath hitching as she heard Abigail’s snickers. Mocking and taunting. She felt so ashamed that Rafael was manhandling her in front of Abigail.
“I..” she stuttered.
Rafael cupped her cheeks and pinched them together angrily as her eyes started watering. “Don’t bother lying. I’ll deal with you later.”
He growled lowly his hold causing her pain as she hissed.
Amara’s eyes watered as she shrieked on the couch Rafael glared at her for a moment before pushing her away and walking towards the kitchen.
Amara whimpered holding her arm where Rafael gripped her. Tears rolled down her eyes as she felt Abigail’s scrutinized gaze accessing her. He didn’t stop Rafael from hurting her, instead, he looked amused and satisfied.
Not being able to handle the humiliation, she stood on her trembling legs and rushed towards her room wiping her cheeks harshly.
Just as she was about to close the door, she felt someone laughing at the door from outside and the impact sent her stumbling back.
Amara felt her world stopping. Her hands startled trembling and breathing shortening. Abigail entered the room and closed the door behind him.
“W-What are you doing?” Amara panicked as she took a step back. Her eyes darted around in search of anything to use as a weapon but couldn’t find any. Abigail smirked placing his fingers on his lips.
“Shh… you wouldn’t like your husband to know now, would you?” He shook his head in a teasing manner taking a step towards her.
Before Amara could run, he grabbed her by the waist and pinned her against the door.
“Let go!” Amara cried. He pressed his body against hers and nuzzled her neck. Amara felt disgusted as he blew on her skin.
“Shit, you still taste so sweet like honey. God! How can I survive without having a lick?” He moaned making her thrash in utter panic and unease. His touch made her skin crawl.
“Let go!” She struggled hoping someone outside would hear her pleas.
Abigail pushed her hair aside and kissed her neck sloppily. She shuddered distancing herself from his disgusting touch.
“There, there. Calm down. I won’t do anything, for now.
Have a sweet time with your husband and his brother.
And when they’ll both kill each other, I’ll have you all to myself.
” He soothed her hair back and stepped back leaving her trembling against the door.
She looked startled and confused at him as he wiped his lips with his thumb.
“W-What?” She stammered as he opened the door and winked at her.
“Till next time.” He stepped out leaving her thinking and in fear.
