Chapter Seven #2

“What is this shit about your car?” Diesel stormed into the gym looking furious but stopped short when he saw they weren’t alone.

Diesel nodded at Jayme. “Jayme.” He focused on Kuba.

The anger was back. “Why in the fuck didn’t you tell me about your car?

I had to hear it from Mom. You should’ve immediately come to me.

I am your goddamn security, Kuba. I can’t help if you plan to cut me from the loop. ”

Jayme looked appeased. “Yeah. What he said?”

Kuba pinched the spot between his eyes. No one knew how tired he was.

Everything had been heavy for a while now.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to deal with the situation.

He was exhausted from the entire ordeal.

His phone rang. Kuba shot to his feet, taking any out he could.

“I’ve got to answer this.” Kuba didn’t even check to see who it was. He just blindly answered. “Hello?”

“Ace and Trace told me what they did. You know I’d never condone that, much less ask them to do you like that.”

Kuba didn’t make eye contact as he walked away and closed himself inside the bathroom. “Do I know that, Dread? They’ve been doing a lot lately. Too much. My dad hired a bodyguard, for fuck’s sake.”

“I heard. At least I know you don’t think I’ll harm you. Krystof would destroy me. Plus, it’s you, you know?”

Kuba took a breath. Rage tried to take over, but he didn’t have the energy.

The bathroom door ripped open. A furious Jayme stood on the other side. “Hang up the phone.”

Kuba tried to explain himself. Jayme didn’t give him time. He snatched the phone from Kuba and disconnected the call. “Why would you even take his fucking call?”

“Is everything okay?” Diesel appeared behind Jayme like a wraith. His obvious concern had Kuba’s shoulders relaxing.

He took a deep breath. “Everything is good. You’re right.

I should’ve told you what happened before I left this morning.

Between talking to the cops, hiring someone to take my car to the shop and clean up the mess, and all that, things moved pretty damn fast. When the tow truck got there, my Uber arrived, and I didn’t have time to do everything I wanted.

” He held Diesel’s stare, hoping he read between the lines.

Kuba had hoped to wake Diesel this morning and take advantage of him.

To be real, he hadn’t had good sex in a while.

There was a good reason for that, but sex with Diesel had been different.

He was a contented cat, but his lust had tripled now that he had that fulfilled feeling he had craved. Kuba couldn’t stop wanting more.

Diesel’s mouth lifted in one corner.

Kuba hadn’t realized how much he felt like he had been barely holding it together until that knowing smile. He could handle this. “As you said, you’re my security. How do you suggest we handle this?”

Jayme’s pinched expression vanished. It was obvious he was relieved to see Kuba take this seriously.

The moment Diesel started speaking, sounding like an expert on the matter, all Kuba’s stress fled.

Hatred was such a heavy emotion to carry, especially for as long as Kuba had.

“First off, you can’t wait until after the first of the year.

It obviously doesn’t matter if Dread is out of town.

His little buddies are trouble. I’ll move my stuff in today and then head to the Seattle office to set up a full security plan—like drive-bys and the highest of tech security system.

All the best cameras and whatnot. You should go with me for that and have your say in things.

If you’re free, that is. If not, you can trust me on the matter. ”

“I trust you, but I’m free. I’ll go.”

Diesel nodded and then focused on Jayme. “We have to assume you’re also a target. Those boys showed up to try to intimidate me last night. It’s not a big stretch to say they might try to get at Kuba through you.”

“The thought’s crossed my mind.”

Kuba almost snorted. Jayme had just screamed at him less than ten minutes ago about his possible involvement.

Thankfully, Diesel had this. “I’ll have your back when you’re with Kuba. When you’re not, with your permission, I’d like to have monitored cameras installed at your place too. We can frame the request with Saint that Kuba is there often enough to warrant monitoring both locations.”

Jayme motioned toward Kuba with his thumb. “This cunt don’t come ‘round. He has exactly two free minutes every day, and it takes longer than that to drive to my place.”

Kuba rolled his eyes.

Diesel’s serious demeanor didn’t waver. “Saint doesn’t know that, and Kuba’s dad is footing the bill.”

A wicked-looking smile stretched across Jayme’s lips. “In that case, mate, go crazy. Ole Krystof can afford it and never notice.”

That was true. Not to mention this plan would get Jayme off his back.

He didn’t plan to do anything about Dread’s punk-ass friends.

Drawing too much attention to the matter was a very bad thing.

He had a reputation that meant every bit as much as his stats on the mat.

Getting press attention in this matter would distract people from his performance.

That was exactly why Kuba hadn’t agreed when Dread claimed Kuba should know he wasn’t capable of this.

Dread had proved himself capable of a lot of things.

Those things had taken the best part of his life away.

Kuba checked his watch. “I guess we’d better get started if we want to get everything done today.”

A smile exploded across Diesel’s face, making Kuba want to smile. Damn, he was sexy. “Dude, I have like two suitcases and my Jeep. My mom keeps everything else at her place. You can’t own a lot and do what I do.”

Kuba hadn’t considered that. It made sense, though.

Clients wouldn’t want bodyguards bringing a bunch of shit in their house.

The realization made him sad, though. What was the point of working if the money did next to nothing for you?

What brought Diesel joy? He should ask more questions.

Everything he learned about Diesel made him want to know more.

He didn’t feel like he’d had enough of Diesel yet.

Kuba would like to claim he wasn’t one to deny himself, but he had been doing that his entire life.

Diesel was different. Kuba couldn’t quit him yet.
