Chapter 10 Melanie

Melanie

Dread flew through Kai as he instantly dropped his other hairpin, holding his hands up in front of him. “Okay.” Kai held up his hands, stopping dead. “Okay! Fuck, just let her go.”

Sin’s face remained neutral as his chest heaved with the effort of the fight.

The alpha lay at his feet, groaning as Sin increased the pressure on his chest. There was a definite crack that rang around us, and sick satisfaction came from either me or Kai as the alpha screamed.

“We have a simple choice here,” Sin said, rubbing his wrists. “Either you let my mate go, or your mate dies.”

“Please don’t bluff. You really think we wouldn’t know your tells? Don’t try that shit with us.”

“How interesting. You’re perfectly capable of attacking myself and my mates with the intent to kill. Why do you think we would be any different?”

The moment Sin pressed on his chest, another rib broke, and the leather alpha winced, feeling it through his own pack bond.

His grip loosened, I flung my head forward, wrenching out of his grasp.

I swallowed hard as I slammed my heel on his shoe before jabbing my elbow back, straight into his stomach.

It was like hitting a brick wall made of alpha, but it was enough for me to jump forward and away from him.

In seconds, Kai was there with his hairpin, and the alpha’s scream tore up from behind me. I didn’t even think. I spun to grab the chair closest to us and lifted it, my eyes wild as I cracked it over the alpha’s head.

I let out a sob as I raised it again. I couldn’t hold back. They’d taken Caspian, they’d assaulted Kai, they hurt Sin. They didn’t deserve to be here. They shouldn’t even breathe the same air as my mates.

I smashed it down again, and again, the other two alphas in the room yelling as Kai and Sin took care of them.

Power scattered through us as we worked together. That feeling of being so connected to other people surged, and my knee buzzed with pain as Sin crushed the alpha’s chest.

I couldn’t stop. I wanted to let it all out. I needed my alpha back, and they took him from me. My bite was burning, and Caspian wasn’t there, and I didn’t know what to do.

“Hey, Brandy?” A soft purr swept over me, and I froze, the chair held over my head.

My arms trembled from the effort of beating him, my eyes widening as I saw the blood-stained and beaten face of the alpha under me.

“Brandy,” Kai said again, like he was calling me back from the edge of my rage and confusion.

His hand brushed from my shoulder to my arm, reaching for the chair, gently extracting it from my hands.

“Even though this is hot as fuck, there’s easier ways to stop him.”

I was panting furiously as I controlled my need to attack.

I wanted to make sure the alphas couldn’t hurt us again, and my instincts wouldn’t let me stop.

If Kai hadn’t come over, I was sure I would have kept going until he was dead, and then I would have only stopped when I knew my mates were safe.

My stomach rolled, my aching hands shaking as horror flooded me.

I shook my head, forcing myself to look at what I’d done to the alpha. Even though his pack had tried to kill us, they dragged Caspian away, and he kicked me so hard I couldn’t straighten up, he was still Caspian’s father.

I was close to falling to my knees again. I wanted to do something to say sorry, to make it right. Because I didn’t want to be that kind of person.

But Kai hugged me from behind, plopping his chin on my shoulder, grinning at me.

“Let’s try this one again,” Kai hummed as he looked down at the alpha. “Do you want to find out where Caspian is, or should I?” I gasped as he slipped a warm hairpin into my hand.

“Kai, I can’t…”

“We need information. And these three cunts are the best place to get it.”

“As much as I would like to see Melanie take care of this situation, she is not in the best state to make these decisions,” Sin said as he surged forward.

All the darkness I’d seen in him had disappeared, and the man who met us with a concerned look felt much more real. I was too wound up to ask anything about that look as he crushed his father-in-law’s chest meant.

He pulled Kai close, kissing him on the forehead as he casually moved the hairpin from my hand back to his omega’s. “Go do what you do best,” he said to Kai, and I loved that I could feel Kai’s pleasure at his alpha’s attention.

“What’s happening?” I asked shakily as Kai left and Sin moved me away.

He tucked himself in behind me, moulding his body to mine like he’d done so many times already.

“Just focus on my voice,” Sin said as he placed a gloved hand over my eyes.

“We’re going to find Caspian. Even though you can’t sense him now, he hasn’t gone.

” He walked us forward, and I trusted him to guide me.

I knew the doors they’d pulled Caspian through were straight ahead, so I walked with him.

As soon as he said Caspian’s name, my omega instincts flared to life, and the panic that took over me when he left suddenly reared up again. But Sin doused me in his aura, his scent curling through my nostrils and sending me deeper into the haze.

Until a scream ripped from behind me, and I stopped dead. The colour drained from my face as Kai’s laugh bounced around the room, and there was a loud squelch before silence followed it.

“You just need to listen to me, Melanie,” Sin said, one hand covering my ear as his lips rode the other, drowning out the sounds of Kai and the others yelling.

“Caspian is still alive. You would know if he had died; we all would. We’ve only been here for five minutes, so he can’t have gone far.

Just breathe. Our mate will come back to us soon. ”

“Sin,” I croaked, my steps growing slower. “I can’t just let Kai do this.”

“Don’t worry,” he said, rubbing his nose against my neck, scent marking me to calm me down. “Kai can be fast when he wants to be. The problem is when he takes his time.”

“But what if—”

“Melanie,” his voice shivered over me as the purr he used the last time we made love came through.

“It’s like Kai said. We haven’t cared for you like you deserve.

So, let us protect you now.” He brought us to a stop, groaning as he nuzzled his nose against my cheek.

“When I bite you and the four of us finally bond, you’ll never have to worry again. ”

I whimpered as his teeth grazed my jaw, and I softened into him.

My stomach thudded with pain with each step I took.

But everything that had happened was forgotten as I was surrounded by my alpha.

I was so weak and scattered from Caspian’s bite, and I still had no control over myself as an omega, but Sin was too good.

I didn’t want to think about what I’d just done, so I sighed back into him.

I was ready to relax, ready to let my alpha take care of finding Caspian and bringing us all together before he bit me, but footsteps suddenly filled my ears and Sin removed his hand. We were standing directly in front of the door they had dragged Caspian through, and Kai burst into my view.

“Phew, I’ve been dreaming about that for years. I know they are Cas’s dads, but they seriously had some meat on them. I haven’t had to push that hard to get to a windpipe since—”

My eyes widened as he appeared in front of me. Thin red lines crisscrossed his white suit, his sleeves dyed brightly as blood dripped from the needle.

He wiped it off on his suit, quickly putting his hair back up as I reached out for him.

“Kai…” I reached for him even though I was freaking out at the sheer amount of blood that splattered him. “Did you kill them?” And did he do that for me?

“What? No! Don’t be crazy! I just dug my needle into his throat a bit and wiggled it around until he told me what I wanted. It’s not like it’s my fault if he bleeds out.” He shrugged as if it was a normal thing to do, while my arms ached over what I’d done with the chair.

Kai took my hand before I could touch his bloody cheek, kissing the back, holding my gaze with a mischievous grin. “It’s all for my omega,” he said, and his pride flowed into me.

At the last party, I was so wrapped up in perfuming that I couldn’t really come to terms with how Kai and Caspian had reacted to the Hiscoxes. I’d been so focused on Sin and then Kai that it was only when I was safe in my nest that I fully realised they had stabbed and beaten them in front of me.

“We should leave before Zania sends people to check on us,” Sin said, cupping his mate’s cheek, wiping the blood from Kai’s face with one white glove, staining himself just as badly as him.

“What about…the alphas?” I said. I couldn’t call them Caspian’s dads after that.

I tried to look back, but Sin blocked my view.

“Lily is familiar with dealing with these matters. But that’s not our biggest concern.”

“Yeah, let’s get the fuck out of here.”

Kai lifted a finger, Sin’s gun hanging off the end. “You ever use one of these?” he asked me.

I shook my head instantly. I never thought I’d see one in my life.

“Good, and I hate guns, even if they just stun. Looks like it’s up to you, alpha.”

Sin pressed his lips together as he swept the gun from Kai’s grasp, neatly returning it to his pocket.

“I don’t understand. Why are you so okay with this? They might die.” When I looked over my shoulder, Kai stepped in close to make sure I could only see him.

He patted me on the head with a cheery smile.

“There’s no ‘might’ about it. I told you I’d protect you, didn’t I?

I’m going to keep all my promises, so you never have to worry again.

I just need these two shitheads to keep up.

” He glanced at Sin over his shoulder. “Because I am so winning the best mate of the year contest right now.”

They glared at each other, or Sin’s version of glaring, but Sin didn’t reply.

But every second that passed grew more painful, until I was suddenly clutching them both, my chest tight, sucking in a giant breath as I searched for my mate inside me.

“Um…” I had a bite burning high on my neck and a bond that needed to be maintained. “Where’s Caspian?” I rasped.

Kai grit his jaw, and he parted his lips to throw something at me along with his rush of irritation.

But a bloom of pure rage thundered around us, and a boom exploded through our bond. Pain ripped through me, and I cried out, my body spasming. But Kai and Sin quickly grabbed me, holding me up.

“Oh, fuck,” Kai snarled as my body shook with a pulse that tore me up from the inside.

“What—” I gasped, doubling over as unrelenting fury stormed through me, screaming in my mind as everything burned in red.

Sin clung to us both as I groaned, shuddering, trying to control myself. “What’s happening?” I choked out. “I can’t—” But I yelled as another boom of fury stole my breath.

“It appears Caspian has gone rogue,” Sin said so plainly that it was like we weren’t being ravaged by Caspian’s force.

“What do we do?” I whimpered as explosions of pain detonated in my body.

Kai shot out a hand, pulling me to his side, his expression grave. “We fucking move.”
