“God, you’re killing me right now,” Jax leaned down to whisper in my ear as we found our seat.
Right back at you.
I was feeling self-conscious in my tight leather skirt and a cut-up version of the band tee my daughter had given me, but the moment I saw the way she looked at me wearing it, it all flew out the window.
She was wearing something similar, though it was pants in her case and another of the band’s T-shirts turned into a tank top. No bra, of course, and I could just see the shape of her nipples under it.
I looked up at her, taking in her eyes lined in thick kohl and the slightly smudged lipstick from the way I almost mauled her in the car coming here.
I felt like a horny teenager. I couldn’t keep my hands off her, and even in such a public place with the venue filling up with excited people ready to hear some music, my hand still found her thigh.
And I was nervous. I couldn’t even remember a time I felt nervous with my ex-husband. At least not in a way that felt good.
After our night together at the club, things had changed between us.
We melded our lives together much more easily than I thought.
While I didn’t make a conscious effort to share her bed every night, it kind of just happened.
We could barely keep our hands off each other.
By the time we were done and exhausted, it was easy to just fall asleep wherever we were.
Her bed. My bed. The couch. And it never got awkward.
Putting all those thoughts to the side, I leaned against her, my lips brushing against her collarbone. It was as high as I could get it in our position thanks to our height difference.
“If you're a good girl after this, I'll let you fuck me in the car.”
Her eyes lit up, but the show started before she could respond.
The sound of a wailing guitar spread throughout the stadium.
“New York, are you ready?”
The crowd went wild and started to stand, so Jax quickly hoisted me up with her. I couldn't help but look at her with an excited smile.
Smoke filled the stage as the curtain pulled open for us to see the band already standing there. They jumped straight into a song that I didn't know, but the beat was heavy and fast, and the crowd was going crazy for it.
Including Jax, who was holding onto me and jumping with excitement.
This got a real laugh out of me. In my youth, I might have been embarrassed about the show we were putting on, but not anymore. Not when she was trying so hard to make sure I had a good time.
So, for once, I let go.
Jax sang along loudly but surprisingly well to songs I didn't recognize, and whenever she turned to sing to me, I tried my best to keep up. Even when I messed up the lyrics, she didn't laugh at me.
As the second song came to a close and they started addressing the audience, she leaned into me.
“So, am I making a fan out of you yet?” she almost screamed so I could hear her over all the noise.
I shook my head with a laugh.
“I have to admit they're pretty good, though I have nothing to compare it to.”
“What do you mean?”
I pulled her down so I could whisper in her ear. “I've never been to a concert before, so this one already takes the cake!”
She looked at me like I was crazy.
“Never?” The word barely reached my ears, but I could make it out.
“Never!”
Instead of judging me for that admission or making me feel weird in any way, she pulled me in front of her and held on just as they went into the third song.
“Well, then we better make this your best concert yet!”
It was. I already knew it was. And it had nothing to do with the band.
I’d missed out on a lot by being with someone who never really truly wanted to be with me. But here and now, I was having fun.
Jax wants me here. And I want to be here with her. No one else.
We allowed ourselves to get lost in the songs. We moved together. And I wasn't embarrassed about it at all.
I’d been so worried. About how different our lives were, if our age difference would look too obvious, and even if I was far too old to talk to someone like her without running out of things to talk about.
But it felt normal. We felt normal. We felt great.
I let Jax hold me. I let our hands thread together and fell into the allure of the band on stage, obviously queer and very, very hot young people.
They were exciting to watch—even more so as the entire stadium screamed for them. I might not have started out a fan, but by the time Jax and I left, I would be one for sure.
And then, when I thought things couldn’t get any better, a slow song came on. The singer took center stage, the lights dimmed, people took their phones out, and Jax shifted us so that she was holding me from behind, lightly swaying us to the music.
I leaned back into her, unable to pull my eyes away from the stage. And then, ever so slightly, Jax began to hum in my ear.
“You really are a fan,” I said with a laugh.
But she ignored me and continued humming until the very last line of the song.
“Bound we are, together until the end of time.”
Each word burned up my entire body. My breath caught in my throat. My head went light, and I felt like I was literally swooning.
Having her arms around me as she hummed and sang a love song in my ear was so much more than I ever thought possible. And I loved every single moment of it. Of her. Of us.
It was over far too soon. I wanted to stay there, wrapped in her arms and stuck in our world forever. But while she didn’t let me go again once she had her arms around me, we knew it was time to leave.
We had decided to leave early so we could beat the crowd, but those plans went out the window after what she’d done. I needed her. So I took her down to a random back area of the stadium that seemed empty and pulled her face down to kiss me.
I giggled as her hands found my hip, and she easily hoisted me up and pushed me against the wall.
“This is crazy,” I whispered against her lips. “And so inappropriate.”
“But we deserve it,” she said. “This is the best date I’ve ever been on. Permission to touch?”
I thought about saying no. We were in public. We could be caught at any moment. But that was the exciting part of it. Just like teenagers, we were horny and trying to fuck whenever and however we could, regardless of where we were or who could see us.
The concert was still going. I could hear the voice of the lead vocalist echoing through the arena as I pulled her into a frenzied kiss while her hand traveled up my shirt to cup my breast.
“Use your mouth,” I ordered.
I arched up, and she kissed down my neck to my nipple. I let out a moan when she took it into her mouth and sucked.
“Fuck, so good.”
Her hand pushed between my legs and under my skirt, giving me delicious friction over my very wet panties.
“You think you can make me come like this?”
Her groan told me she’d already been planning to try. I grabbed her hair and let out a laugh as a sharp burst of pleasure came from between my legs.
“God, I've never done anything like this before.”
When she bit my nipple, I cried out.
“Fuck, keep going.”
She pushed harder against my cunt, rocking her hand in a way that had me squirming against her. I jerked my hips, searching for my orgasm.
I was so, so close and then—
“Hey! Get out of here! This is a restricted area!”
The voice came from down the hallway, and before they had time to reach us, Jax pushed my skirt and shirt down, and we ran in the opposite direction. She threaded my fingers through hers, looking back at me as we made our escape, and I couldn't help but let out a manic laugh.
When we got out of the stadium and into the dark night, my heart was racing and I was sweating, but both of us were keeled over laughing as if the whole adventure had been the funniest thing in the universe.
When we turned to look at each other, we laughed even harder.
Her hair was all over the place from my fingers, and I knew my clothes were rumpled. What we had been about to do was written all over our bodies… and I didn’t care.
I would do it again.
Because the way we laughed together was like nothing I’d ever felt before. Because the smile she gave me was too mesmerizing to regret.
I never had a moment where I just felt so… free.
I had experienced true happiness a handful of times in my life, and almost all of them had to do with Claire. Granted, some had been about my career, but most of it didn't feel like it belonged to me.
This happiness between Jax and me at that moment might have been shared, but it was mine as much as it was ours. I could feel the shackles that had been weighing me down over the years slowly breaking off one by one until I felt lighter than I ever thought I could.
Before either of us could start rationalizing any of it, I took her hand and pulled her to where my car was parked.
“Still down for some car sex?” I asked with a wink.
She gave me another blinding smile.
“Do you even have to ask?”
