Chapter 6 #2

Distracted by our little argument, I only realized we had reached campus when Heithor turned off the car engine.

He rested his head against the seat and closed his eyes, his chest rising and falling with a deep breath.

And when he opened his eyes, they were unreadable.

His jaw tense, his expression unyielding. Heithor stared at me, demanding.

“I want you to stop pretending nothing happened and talk to me about it like two adults, damn it. Is that so hard to understand?”

“Yes, it’s hard when you insist on talking about something that will only serve to stroke your great alpha-male ego,” I shouted back.

“What? I think I missed something here.”

“I was getting to that… You did miss something. Your shame! You want to talk about the damn kiss? Then here you go, you bastard. We kissed, so what? Will it change anything besides the fact that I made a clown of myself?”

“Listen, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have… I truly am sorry. It wasn’t my intention to embarrass or humiliate you. I should have held myself back. It was a mistake…”

“A mistake! A mistake? And when did you come to that conclusion, maledetto? Was it before or after your bitch showed up? Because until she barked, it didn’t seem to me like you were trying to push me away. Or am I crazy?”

One thing was me not wanting to talk about it because it hurt. Another very different thing was Heithor saying it had been a mistake.

“Fuck, woman! Be quiet for a moment.”

“Oh, wasn’t it you who wanted me to talk? Make up your mind! You can’t have both things at the same time. And don’t tell me to shut up!”

“You’re trying to confuse me and make this more difficult than it already is.”

I rushed to snap back at him, but his hard look stopped me.

“Listen. When I said I’m sorry and that it was a mistake, I was referring to the situation I put the three of us in.

Not what happened between the two of us.

I shouldn’t have put you in that position because, whether I meant to or not, I knew I would end up offending you even if that wasn’t my intention.

I acted wrongly with you and with Norah, but it was impossible to hold myself back…

Fuck, I don’t think the kiss was a mistake.

It was fucking right, Antonella. We both wanted it and enjoyed it, but the moment it happened was wrong. ”

“In short, you’re a damned opportunist who took advantage of the moment. And how could you not, when you’ve always been one hell of an opportunistic bastard, right?”

“Antonella…”

“What? Are you going to deny your own words? Deep down, you’ve always been a liar, a low-class opportunist who takes advantage of other people’s fragility.

And please, don’t come at me with that bullshit about only being sorry you put me in an embarrassing position and not being able to control yourself.

Not when you were in some corner of the mansion with that bitch fucking like the two animals you are. ”

“I wasn’t fucking anyone,” he refuted, shameless, jaw clenched and eyes gleaming with fury. “Don’t call me an opportunist.”

“You know what? Fuck it! I don’t care what you were or weren’t doing. Actually, I don’t care at all what you do or don’t do. The only thing I ask—by the way, I demand—is that you put your bitch in line. I will no longer tolerate any disrespect from her or from anyone. Enough!”

“What the hell does Norah have to do with this?”

My eyebrow rose.

“She’s your girlfriend, isn’t she? Therefore, she has everything to do with it.”

“This is between you and me. Don’t put Norah in the middle.

One thing is you not liking her out of whim…

Yes, Antonella, whim. Norah never did anything to deserve so much hatred,” he defended.

“And unless you have a good reason to justify all this hatred, and I suggest you tell me if you do, until then I’ll be of the same opinion. ”

“You’re an idiot!”

“Pardon?”

“If you believe that bitch is some kind of saint, then you’re a complete idiot.”

“Why wouldn’t I believe her, Antonella? As I recall, it wasn’t Norah who caused all this shit. She isn’t the reason we ended up here, is she?”

His statement hit me like a punch, and by instinct, I shrank back. Words fled beyond my reach. I looked away, but quickly composed myself on the defensive.

“Did you never wonder how I found out about the dossier?” He stared at me with extreme attention. I forced a smile. “Of course not!”

“What do you mean?”

“I never went through your things out of curiosity, Heithor. That damned dossier was only found because your beloved holy bitch told me about it.”

“Norah wouldn’t do that…”

“Oh, sì! She would. Or rather, she did,” I assured him in a firm tone.

“Norah not only did that, she made sure to emphasize what an opportunist you are and that was why you kept that dossier, so you could blackmail me at your pleasure. To force me to stay with you when I no longer wanted to, because according to her, you were used to doing that with other stupid girls who believed you. ‘You’re the one who resisted the most, and also the prettiest, but in the end they all fall. They always fall. Thor never loses. You’ve figured that out by now, haven’t you?

’ Her words. Your perfect little saint of a girlfriend.

” I made a dramatic pause while I watched him.

The maledetto could very well have been carved from stone.

“How many times did you laugh at me? I must have been the joke of the year between you, right? Of course I was! Especially because you didn’t expect to get me pregnant. ”

I opened the car door, but before jumping out, I said:

“Don’t think for even a second that you will take my son from me so that bitch or anyone else can raise him. He’s mine. I will never allow you to take him from me.”
