Chapter 18

Chapter eighteen

Dmitri

My kitten tried to keep her face disinterested as I drove us to our location. Every time she’d sneak a glance at me, I lightly lifted my foot off the accelerator to give her a chance to act on what she obviously wanted.

Her mouth remained tightly shut.

But I didn’t miss the way her thighs clenched together the moment she averted her eyes.

When we pulled up to the wrought-iron gate, I couldn’t help a laugh at the way her breath released from her lungs, like she’d won something by holding onto control.

Didn’t she know she was just depriving herself?

I’d savor the expression on her face when she finally lost that tightly held control. My grip on the wheel tightened as I imagined her opening those pretty pink lips, and begging the very person who’d murdered her brother to release all that tension.

Despite my raging hard on–that’d been aching each time she stole a glance at me–I forced my attention back on our assignment.

“Last questions?” I asked when I pulled up the gravel driveway.

What I really wanted to ask for was her to get on her knees, and wrap those pillow soft lips around my cock.

Alisa shook her head, her eyes flickering to me for a heartbeat before focusing her attention back on the window.

So fucking cute the way she kept trying to resist me. Too bad it was so distracting.

And I couldn’t be distracted when there was something bothering me about this mission.

During our car ride, I’d dragged the reluctant truth out of her. She’d previously only been assigned to missions where she had to kill someone or steal something. This assignment required a completely different set of expertise.

We’d been ordered to determine if one of the Pakhan’s distributors was on the up-and-up. A laughable idea when you considered the fact that he was selling coke to the locals.

The assignment seemed simple enough, but there was nothing simple when it came to the Pakhan.

The fact that he’d ordered me to team up with someone when he’d never done so before….

Well, that was a red fucking flag.

And those distracting glances Alisa kept sending my way were the last thing I needed.

As I slid the car into park, a slimy looking man with slicked back hair stepped up to the driveway to greet me.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Dmitri,” the distributor said. “I’m Jayden.”

Despite his steady gaze on me, something pinched in the back of my brain that something was off.

Instinctively I knew this was going to be anything but a straightforward mission.

“Your girlfriend?” he asked me, sending a dismissive glance towards Alisa.

I held back a laugh when Alisa’s entire body went rigid.

“No,” she said, the irritation in her voice was palpable. “I work for the Pakhan.”

When Jayden’s expression turned appraising and his eyes skimmed over Alisa’s fully clothed legs, I realized the hardest part of this mission wasn’t going to be finishing it…

No, it was going to be not killing him.

I tilted my head and stared at Jayden’s narrow neck. I wouldn’t even need to use both of my hands to strangle him.

I took a deep breath when my rational mind reminded me of the Pakhan’s only stipulation.

Don’t kill the man. Just assess him.

But if Jayden didn’t stop assessing Alisa’s chest, I might be tempted to stab out his eyes and keep him on life support to get around the Pakhan’s edict.

To her credit, Alisa still shook his offered hand. But her irritation was apparent when his eyes didn’t redirect to her face for even a moment.

“Where are our rooms?” I asked, finally snapping Jayden’s attention back to me.

A smirk twisted across Jayden’s thin lips before he led us into the mega mansion. A roided out guard watched us as we walked through the long hallway, and I didn’t miss the way his eyes skimmed over Alisa’s body.

I kept my expression in check, but having Alisa here was going to make everything more complicated.

Jayden stopped in front of side-by-side bedrooms.

“Your rooms,” he announced to Alisa and I. “...Unless you prefer to share a room.”

“Absolutely not,” Alisa said through a clenched jaw, and then marched into the first room.

The temptation to laugh faded when I saw Jayden’s eyes light up.

Only after his oily presence receded down the hallway did I walk into my room. I closed my eyes when I heard the slow sound of a zipper in the adjoining room.

The walls were paper fucking thin.

I could hear every inhale of breath Alisa took. Every single note of the music playing from her phone, and her accompanying humming of the lyrics.

When I heard the soft thud of clothing meeting the floor, I couldn’t help a groan.

I couldn’t remember the last time a mission had even elevated my heart rate.

But this one might fucking kill me.
