Chapter 14

Damon

I should have known my father would pull some shit like this. It would have been worse if it had been right after the accident. I wouldn’t have been able to control myself. Evan sits next to her mother, and I take the chair on her other side.

It’s not like I’m going to sit next to Chase’s parents.

Evan’s being so careful to not pay me too much attention. I understand why. It’s part of the game. She plays it well, but she’s got tells. They’re so subtle I don’t think Chase will ever notice because he doesn’t know her.

Did he ever bother to get to know her? What’s the point of clinging to her when she’s given him the rules?

“So I wasn’t aware you two finally moved in together.” Jessica smiles at the server as they set a salad in front of her but then turns back to wait for Heather to answer.

Heather’s cheeks flush with color as she glances at my dad. “Our rental house was sold, and with nowhere else to go, Adam was kind enough to let us move in with him.”

Jessica nods, but there’s a knowing gleam in her eyes.

“How’s the team this year, Damon?” Tom asks, drawing me into a conversation as the women continue to discuss Heather moving in.

I’ve had enough dinners with Tom to know he doesn’t want details or stats like some guys. He’s not a fan. He’s just making conversation.

“We have some new members on varsity who should help make this season a good one.” I pick at my salad, keeping my hands above the table. I don’t need Chase to realize I’m all over his girl. Not yet.

The fear of it is going to be there. That I’ll seduce her away from him. His little director. But he still sees Evan as the scared little theater nerd and not the sex kitten she is for me. She’s been faithful to him. Mostly. Until we let her know what he was up to and she was done with him.

We both want revenge for what he’s done.

I’m done giving her pussy a break. Tonight, I’m fucking what’s mine.

“Having any issues from the accident?” Tom asks. Doesn’t he know his son was the reason for my accident or is he covering up for Chase?

“My leg has been healing with the right PT.” I rub my jaw where the road rash is still healing. “Might have a few new scars, but I’m not planning on modeling, so…”

Jessica grins and leans her elbows on the table, putting her chin on her folded hands. Her eyes rake over me. “You could be, you know? A model.”

I give her a half-smile. “You think?”

She puts her hand on Chase’s jaw. “You both could be. I know hockey is your calling. Beth always talked about your talent, but you could go another way.” Her eyes sparkle when she looks at me. “Even with a scar. It makes you more interesting.”

Fuck, I think Chase’s mom wants to fuck me. That was a route I wouldn’t have taken even if it had been offered prior to Evan. Maybe I do have a few limits. Besides, Evan is ours. I wouldn’t ruin that for a quick lay.

“I keep telling Evan to keep her options open.” Heather leans back in her chair, looking over her daughter like she’s a commodity. “She’s so set on directing, but she’s a talented actress. And so pretty.”

Heather brushes Evan’s hair behind her ear, and Evan blushes.

“She can go far in whatever she chooses to do.” Chase smiles at Evan like he’s halfway in love with her. It’s such fucking bullshit, but both Jessica and Heather buy into it. Their eyes soften.

Evan takes a bite of her salad to avoid saying anything. I want to crawl into her thoughts and know what she’s thinking. It’s easy to watch her, but I want to see inside her mind. I still play back the footage of her day or catch the live show while I’m doing cardio or lifting.

There’s something soothing about her going through her day-to-day, knowing she’s waiting for me to come and pluck her up. I’ve watched her when I come into her room. She tenses in anticipation, waiting for me to touch her.

The disappointment of her shoulders falling when I don’t. The way she gives in when I do.

I took it too far the morning she rode me. She flinched when she sat in class. Though it gave me a rush knowing I was the reason she was sore. The guys and I talked about it and decided to give her a break until tonight.

They’re coming over after dinner. We’ll make sure she comes multiple times. And see how she likes fucking with something in all her holes.

Chase narrows his eyes on me like he knows what I’m thinking.

I meet his gaze with a smirk. I have the taste of Evan memorized.

The feel of her skin beneath my fingertips.

The places that make her gasp. The ones that make her squirm.

The tightness of her cunt when she comes on my cock, milking me.

The way she snuggles into me in her sleep and fits perfectly in my arms.

Chase doesn’t have any of that because she’s mine. Every. Fucking. Inch.

“Damon?” Dad says.

I turn to meet his gaze. “Yeah?”

“Tom was talking about colleges.” My dad smiles like I should just jump into the conversation that buzzed around me while I was thinking about Evan.

“Okay.”

Tom chuckles. “The boy is probably dreaming of hockey. Evan plans to go big. Somewhere like New York. Chase is bound to find something for film or go straight to Hollywood. Last time we talked, Damon, you were talking about some school in Boston.”

I swallow and set my fork down. My appetite gone. “That school is no longer an option.”

Evan’s hand slides over my thigh under the table. It’s subtle enough no one will notice, but her touch centers me, keeps me from exploding.

“You’ve got decent grades. They’d have to let you play hockey.” Tom smiles like all it takes is a little money to grease the wheels. And in some cases, it does, but not this time.

“They only take players who are draft-ready.” I lean back in my chair and meet Chase’s gaze. “The accident fucked that up for me.”

Chase has the decency to flinch. Has he figured it out yet? That I know and I’ll do anything to make his life hell? Taking Evan is only one piece to the puzzle. Chase wasn’t smart enough to get into Deimos so maybe he hasn’t put the pieces together.

“Surely there’s another school that’s just as good.” Tom seems determined.

They’ll keep harping on this until I give them something.

“Crowne Mawr has a new coach. They’re working on becoming a feeder into the NHL,” I say with no emotion. What else can I do? I don’t have a lot of choices unless I want to wait a year to go to college or try to do both Juniors at the same time as my first year of college and then transfer.

No matter which way I look at it, I’m fucked.

“Crowne Mawr is a good school.” My dad nods at me. He doesn’t understand it might be my only choice because he held me back this year. That pit of rage boils in my center, threatening to explode. “It’s not that far away and if you can play and get an education—”

“I’ve actually considered Crowne Mawr for college,” Evan interrupts. Her hand rubs my tense thigh.

My father pauses with his mouth open. I’m usually the one who interrupts.

“It makes sense.” She smiles and looks at the adults, but not Chase or me. “It’s close to home. Their directing program hosts a lot of famous directors. It’s a program that will help me get noticed if I choose not to go to New York or don’t get the scholarship I need.”

The server comes around and takes plates. When she comes back with the main course, she sets the ratatouille in front of me and my steak in front of Evan. Before the adults notice and can say anything, I switch our plates. She smiles softly and squeezes my thigh before taking her hand away.

Chase studies the two of us closely. Does he suspect I’ve got her wrapped around my finger? And tonight I’ll have her wrapped around me and fill her so full of my cum he’ll smell it on her at school.

“My birthday is coming up in a few weeks.” Tom tucks into his steak like a man on a mission. “I know EvanAnn is planning on attending, but I’d love for your whole family to come.”

Heather smiles and glances at my father, taking his hand on the table. “That sounds amazing. We’d love to.”

Evan glances at me, but I don’t look back.

“We’re taking a trip this weekend to celebrate on our own,” Jessica says. She smiles and winks my way. “It’s good to reconnect every so often. Chase has play practice, or we would have brought him with us.”

Chase leans back in his chair. Wonder what or who Chase will do this weekend. It won’t be Evan, but maybe this is something we can use.

EvanAnn

When dinner ends, Chase hangs back while the adults walk outside to have a drink next to the pool. Damon glances at the two of us and rolls his eyes before heading upstairs.

I’m tempted to look in the corners for more of his cameras, but I doubt he has the whole house bugged. And even though I know they’re there, I haven’t found any in my room or the bathroom.

I draw in a breath, bracing myself for what Chase has to say.

“Is he why you didn’t tell me about this move?” Chase steps toward me, but I shift behind the couch, putting the furniture between us. He changes his aggressive expression to something more like hurt.

“It’s not like I had a choice in the matter.

” I take in a breath and keep my tone light.

Damon wouldn’t really leave me alone with Chase.

He’ll be close enough that if I need him, he’ll be here.

“She didn’t tell me until the last minute, and by then I didn’t want to create more animosity between you and Damon and his friends. ”

“Is that why they always seem to be around now?” Chase studies me like he can see if something’s changed.

He can’t. I’m not any different. Just had my eyes opened to his cheating.

Besides, he has some nerve blaming me when he’s the one who was cheating the whole time. I didn’t create this mess. He did. He made me think I was special and worth waiting for by someone like him. Instead, he used me to keep up his lifestyle under his father’s nose.

It’s time to go on the attack. “What your dad said… Is that the reason why you’re dating me? To help repair your image in your father’s eyes? To have someone to say you’re spending all your time with?”

Chase runs his hand through his hair, and his face softens as he comes to a decision. “Honestly, maybe at first, but you’ve been good for me, EvanAnn. I like you and think together we can make it.”

I want to scoff, but I hold it in. I can’t say the same about him. Though in ways, he got me out of my shell and pushed me past my comfort zone. I needed a shakeup. At least I didn’t give him my heart or anything of me.

“I’m going to have a few people over to the house this weekend.” He smiles like we’re on the same page again. “I’d love for you to come over. We can talk and hang out. You could bring Mia.”

“How many is a few people?” I arch my eyebrow suspiciously, thinking he’s going to try to seduce me.

“The guys on the team. A few of their girlfriends. Nothing major.” Chase smiles. “My dad would kill me if I threw a party like Fletcher does.”

“We’re not okay, Chase,” I remind him. I don’t want him to think this weekend will be his opportunity to get me into bed.

“I know.” He looks down, and when he looks up, he smiles.

“We have to start somewhere if we want to move forward. What my dad said is true. You’ve been good for me.

Just because I went into this for the wrong reasons, I still asked you out because I like you and find you attractive.

I can see us having a real future together. ”

My skin crawls at the idea of giving him any kind of hope, but this is the part I’m playing right now. I’m the wronged girlfriend who’s willing to take back her cheating boyfriend. I still can’t figure out my motive for the scene, but I guess it doesn’t matter. My real motive is revenge.

Maybe it started as Damon’s revenge, but Chase shouldn’t have thought I was an easy target. A plan is beginning to form. “Yeah, I’ll see if Mia wants to come with me.”
