Chapter 24

EvanAnn

“Hey, I missed you at lunch.” Chase sits next to me in acting class. He smiles and puts his hand on top of mine. “What did you do?”

I swallow down the urge to say the Devil’s trio, because I’m so sick of pretending with him. Not that we fucked, but it was so nice to just be with them and not have to worry about everything else. But Chase and I? We’re in this weird space where he thinks there’s hope.

I’m curious if he knows what Damon said to Olivia. Maybe he’ll think it’s a joke or a way for Damon to push his buttons more. I can always lead him to that conclusion if he brings it up.

“I had lunch off campus.” Stick as close to the truth as possible.

“Yeah?” He lounges back in his chair and runs a hand through his dark hair. He looks around the classroom and then returns his focus to me. “I would have gone with you.”

“It was last minute. I didn’t want to eat a salad today.” I shrug.

He nods like that makes sense. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him eat a salad. “Are you coming to my game tonight?”

“Of course. I wouldn’t miss it.” I give him a soft smile, like I’m into him.

He puffs up and leans into me. “I miss touching you, EvanAnn.”

I want to push him away and tell him to go fuck himself because he’s never touching me again. But I know how to act.

“Yeah?” I smile shyly at him, because I need him to believe I’m still trying to get back with him. If he suspects something is going on with any of the Devil’s trio, will this work? I may need to up my game. Only for a little while longer.

“I think about you in that skirt from last Saturday a lot.” His blue eyes meet mine. “Are you going to wear something like that this weekend?”

“Maybe.” If I did, I’d be wearing it for my guys and not him, but he doesn’t know that.

Mia plops down on my other side. “Olivia was an even bigger bitch at lunch today. She must be PMSing.”

Chase glances at Mia before he turns to look at his phone.

“Yeah?” I ask, wondering if she’s going to mention the guys weren’t out there. Did Chase notice they were gone too?

“I swear I was about to douse her in holy water.” Mia shakes her head. “She kept going on about Damon even though he wasn’t even there.”

I laugh. “She cornered me in the bathroom yesterday.”

Mia leans in. “Really?”

I lower my voice. “Apparently she thinks Damon wants me or something and tried to pay me off to reject him.”

“What a rich bitch thing to do.” Mia glances toward Chase, who is still enraptured with his phone. “What’d you say?”

“I said she had nothing to worry about and refused her money.” I shrug like it isn’t a big deal and glance at Chase.

Mia laughs. “Where does she find the nerve? That girl wouldn’t make it a day at my old school.”

Chase drapes his arm around my shoulders and squeezes me. I give him a tight smile. At least he’s not trying to kiss me.

Mia nudges my arm. “We on for Saturday?”

Chase goes back to his phone with a little humph.

“Going to the scrimmage?” I toy with my pen to not seem too interested.

“I was so lonely last time.” She smiles. “You can come and cheer on your new roommate. That will piss Olivia off too.”

Chase glares at Mia for a moment.

I clear my throat. “Yeah, I’ll go with you. But I’m going to be with you, not because of the team.”

Chase squeezes my hand like that’s the right answer. Whatever he needs to think. I can’t wait to be done with this charade.

Mia drives me to the football game. I don’t know if the guys are coming, but they probably will show up. Anything could go wrong tonight. I need to get Chase’s keys. The problem is I haven’t figured out how yet.

Maybe I can offer to hold his things so he can really get into the beer pong game.

“So you haven’t told me how it’s been going living with Damon?

” Mia sucks on a lollipop and looks unconcerned other people are around us and might overhear.

We’re in the student section toward the bottom so that Chase can see me when he glances our way.

I need to convince him I’m really into making this work and resist the urge to flip him off.

What I don’t need is a rumor going around about me and Damon. Fortunately the game isn’t as packed, so we have some space around us.

“Uh, it’s weird.” I don’t know what to say about it because I’m supposed to look like I’m trying to get back together with Chase. “I’m an only child, so I’m not used to having someone else around. Also, no one else at school knows besides you and Chase. I’d like to keep it that way.”

“Understood.” Her blue eyes sparkle as she meets mine.

“What’s the situation? Do you run into him?

I was watching this one foreign show where she moves in with her stepbrother who is hot but older and there’s this moment in the kitchen when…

oof.” She fans herself. “Honestly, I almost wish my parents were separated so I could get some hot stepbrother action.”

My cheeks burn because she’s not far off. Except Damon’s dad is so rich, neither of us spends any time in the kitchen. “Our parents aren’t married. But I guess I’ve seen him around the house.”

I can’t tell if Mia is trying to figure out how close Damon and I are or to figure out how to make something happen for her with Damon. I’m surprised she hasn’t mentioned a sleepover yet. She could use my bed. I don’t.

The cheerleaders are on the field holding a banner for the players to run through. I’ve seen things like this on TV and in movies, but I hadn’t experienced it until this year. I just inhale and memorize this moment.

The excitement of the crowd. The cheers of the cheerleaders. The guys on the field. It’s intense and I’m getting caught up in it as the game begins. Mia tells me a little about how the game works.

“You couldn’t go to Sherman High without going to the football games.

The stadium was always packed.” Her cheeks are flushed with excitement as she watches the players.

“They were amazing to watch. It was like they were so in sync with each other. Fuck, if I could have convinced Eli and Luke to join Jack, Caden, and me, I would have done all four of them at the same time.”

Heat seeps into me, because the Devil’s trio is planning to take me together tonight.

I bite my lip. “So how does it work with two guys at once?”

Mia arches an eyebrow at me with a smirk. “Curious, Evan?”

“It just seems a little impossible.” I shrug. Though I’ve seen it in action, and Mia seemed to enjoy it. My guys have fucked me with a plug in my ass, and I enjoyed that. My cheeks flush with heat.

“Oh, it’s so not.” Mia glances around and leans in so her lips are close to my ear. “It burns a little because of the stretch, but once they’re both in and moving, it’s fucking spiritual. Overwhelming in a good way. If you know what I mean.”

She pulls away and smirks.

“I seriously would do it all the time if I could. That and an Eiffel Tower. One in my mouth and one in my pussy, fuck it’s so hard to focus as they fuck in and out of you.” Mia licks her lollipop and puts it back in her mouth. Her eyes are a little unfocused as if she’s thinking about it.

My heart pounds because I’ll know after tonight. But I’ll have all three of them, not just two. I cross my legs. I wore jeans to the game, and Damon tugged his sweatshirt over my head before he backed me into a wall and kissed me like he didn’t want to let me go.

I’m trying not to read into what’s happening with us. It’s possible I’m misreading everything. It’s not like I’m the best at understanding guys. They may just like that I’m willing to do anything with them. There hasn’t really been any talk about feelings.

Yes, Damon wants to protect me and will call me his girlfriend to do that, but he didn’t say he was falling in love with me. Last night though, things shifted between me and Damon.

It felt more real than any connection I’ve had in a long time. I don’t feel alone in that house.

“Hey there, Annie.”

My gaze jerks up and collides with Hawk’s green eyes. “Uh, hi.”

Cam and Damon stand behind him. Cam grins and winks at me.

“Mind if we sit with you guys?” Hawk gestures to the open seats.

“Oh, sure.” Mia squeezes in closer to me to give them room. Honestly, I’m a little surprised she doesn’t shove me away so that they can surround her.

Cam chuckles as he sits on the other side of Mia while Hawk takes the seat next to me and Damon sits behind me. I keep my breathing steady and don’t close my eyes when Damon’s fingers brush against the nape of my neck.

My hair is up in a ponytail. That might have been a mistake because I have to suppress the shivers Damon’s touch sends through me.

I don’t think for a second that was an accident.

The heat of Hawk’s thigh against mine sets my insides on fire. Was this part of the plan? Because I’m not prepared. I take a minute and breathe out and in, ready to improvise my way through this scene.

It would help if I knew what the purpose of the scene was.

I keep my gaze out on the field. Chase isn’t playing right now. He stands on the sidelines and when he glances back, like he’s been doing, his smile fades and he does a doubletake.

His arms drop and he almost takes a step toward us. He frowns and narrows his gaze. I act like this is completely normal, and it’s not unusual for the guys to be sitting around me. I raise my hand to wave to him.

He lifts his hand to me, but the furrow remains on his brow. Damon brushes his fingertips down my nape, and an involuntary shiver rushes through me before I can stop it. Chase frowns, but his coach draws his attention back to the game.

Cam is talking to Mia, so I lean back against Damon’s legs and turn my face slightly to him to say, “You’re evil.”

“You know it, little devil.” He tugs my ponytail and I straighten.

We’re probably drawing attention from the students around us, but I feel better knowing they’re here with me. I don’t think Jackson will show up at another football game. Last time could have been because we were playing his school. I don’t know though.
