11. Sam
Chapter 11
A s annoying as it was to wake up with just the twins, I can’t help but smile at the sounds coming out of Teddy’s room downstairs. I’m also jealous as shit, but they need some time alone. Do I wish I was in there with them? Fuck yes! But ever since Steve and Garret got here, these two have barely gotten a moment to themselves.
Teddy at least grew up with them, but Kelly’s been pretty overwhelmed. She almost seemed relieved to go to work yesterday just to get some time to herself. ’Course, that being said, if Steve doesn’t pull his head out of his ass soon and stop being a petty little shit, we’re gonna have another set of problems .
Running my hands down my face, I try my best to ignore those tempting moans and force my feet into the kitchen. Jake’s standing by the stove casting annoyed glances between the door I walk in, and the large bin of his food. At least he’s not prancing at the back door to be let out. Grabbing out a scoop of his food, I pour it into his bowl and stand back before I get trampled. He acts like he’s starving, but Stephanie already warned me once that he’s prone to overeating and put him on a diet.
The coffee pot is already full, and little clouds of steam are escaping from the spout on the kettle. I’ll have to thank them for getting that taken care of. While I would love that to be in the form of a big breakfast, Kelly’s gonna be late for work if they don’t finish soon.
Not that I’d interrupt them for that, but it means I can fix her something quick to go. I still have some biscuits from the batch I made last night, so I can toss together a couple of breakfast sandwiches that she can carry out the door if she needs to. It’s less effort than I want to put in, but logically it makes the most sense so she doesn’t have to rush or drive unsafely on the way to work.
While her eggs are frying, I pull out stuff to make a sandwich to pack for her lunch. As soon as I’m able to order an insulated lunch bag, she can start taking soup or something warmer. Not that the weather is going to be cold for much longer—at least, I hope not.
Decking out her sandwich with more vegetables than she wants—she keeps turning down my offer of lettuce and tomato—I put it and some carrot sticks in a plastic storage box and wrap the whole thing in an oversized handkerchief so she can carry it. Her breakfast is done, and the sandwiches are ready and wrapped in parchment paper for the road.
The clock says it’s five till seven, and as much as I don’t want to break up their fun, she’ll be frazzled if she’s late. The hallway is quiet when I enter, which means I’ll probably be interrupting snuggle time. It’s still a shame, but hopefully less embarrassing for them. Knocking gently on the door, I wait for someone to call out or open it.
There’s a muffled squeak that’s probably Kelly, and then Teddy opens the door a crack. When he sees it’s me, he blushes adorably and opens it the rest of the way. Kelly is curled up on top of the bed. She blinks owlishly at me over her shoulder before smiling. “Sorry, Sam, good mornin’. I woke up early, and we weren’t sure if y’all were leaving today or not.”
She rolls over, stretching like a cat, and I have to bite back the groan at how sexy she is. Especially considering the time crunch. If we do leave today, it’s gonna be even more disappointing that I have to wait at least another five or six days to touch her again.
Fuck my life.
I stalk over to the bed, startling another little squeak out of her when she sees me so close after her stretch. “Kelly Girl, you are trying every bit of control I have this morning.” She looks up at me sheepishly, her mouth popping open to apologize, but I cut her off. “Nope. It’s just about seven now, if you’re gettin’ a shower, you better get it done, ’cause you still gotta get dressed. Your breakfast and lunch are already packed to go.”
Despite my words to make her hurry, I lean over the bed, trapping her between my arms. She looks up at me with those big brown eyes, and I’m lost when she sits up enough to kiss me. My restraint snaps at the taste of them mixed together on her lips. My arms lock around her, pulling her up and against my chest to deepen the kiss. Her lips part against mine, and I have to fight to keep my control from shattering completely.
My voice is a low growl when I manage to pull away. “Dammit, girl, I don’t want to make you late for work…Fuck.”
She practically purrs against me. “Sorry, Teddy wanted to make sure I was marked enough and smelled like him before y’all left. He says he wants to make sure nobody bothers me while it’s just me ’n Steve here for a few days.”
The marking I can get behind, but her smelling like our omega is just gonna draw in more alphas. Which Teddy must have forgotten since they don’t usually bother him, but sending her out into the world like that is just gonna make it worse.
Shit.
Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, I say, “Ok, Sugar, go take a shower real quick and get cleaned up. We can get this taken care of before we take off for today. Just…lemme talk to Teddy real quick while you get ready.” The two of them exchange a look as she slides off the bed and pads out the door.
Teddy glares at me, crossing his arms, but he softens when I wrap my arms around him. “It wasn’t a bad idea, Love. I don’t like the idea of her being here without us either. But, do you really think her goin’ to school smelling like an omega and not wearing a bonding mark is the best idea? I saw what you did to her neck, but it’s not quite the same thing and you know it.” He sniffs against my shoulder, his small whine muffled where he’s pressed against me.
“Nope, no, none of that. Don’t worry. I understand, and once we’re all bonded properly, then she can smell like you all day long, and I won’t worry. Though truth be told, I’d rather her smell like both of us.” I can feel his mouth curve into a smile, and his low chuckle eases some of the tension in my shoulders.
“Until then…how ’bout you help me gather up all her shirts, we can go throw them at Garret and Steve and make them roll around in the bed on ’em so they smell like the whole pack? The more alphas, the better in this case.” His laugh is much louder this time.
He pulls away and looks up at me. “Vee is gonna hate her smelling like she belongs to him…and I am so fucking here for it. Serves him right. Let’s go before she gets out of the shower, so that’s all she has to wear today.” I don’t even try to stop my laugh. Yeah, neither Steve nor Kelly are real happy about our current situation, but shit, maybe it’ll be good for them to get some time alone without him constantly feeling jealous. Maybe they’ll find some common ground.
Or at least not strangle each other for the next few days that we’re gone.
