Chapter 17

CHAPTER 17

“ S eriously, how come I miss out on all the fun?” I gripe out over breakfast the next morning.

Titus, Temp and Cassie were due to meet and walk the haunted walk last night. Cam and Ben were in wolf form, jumping out at people.

However, while waiting for his brothers, Titus heard a scream and ran inside to see what was going on. He found Sly and his family battling the scarecrows that had come alive. Plus, somehow the holographic headless horseman came alive and tried to kill Ebby.

Apparently, Ben got slashed with a sword but first Ebby sent him healing and then Temp fully healed him.

“It’s all going on the website,” Temp says, grinning like a loon.

“So unfair,” I grump out.

I covered the shop last night and the late meetings, so I missed all the fun. Am I going to sulk about this? Yes, I am. I mean seriously, scarecrows coming alive and a headless horseman!

“I thought about closing the event down, but Elliot said we should keep it open. He said between all the witches and his family we can keep everyone safe. He said we should use Sly as well. For those of you who don’t know, Sly is Sylvester Sherwood, the true dark witch of the family. He is married to Ebenezer Anderson, the true light witch from the Anderson line.”

“A light and dark true witch pairing?” Emily says. “That’s unusual.”

“It works for them,” I say.

“Molly and Cleo were also meeting to discuss what can be done to keep everyone safe. I will chat to Molly later and see what was decided.” Adhan adds.

“We’re having a BBQ Sunday so that Sly and his family can meet all of us. Just use caution, Enoch and Xander, the two younger brothers, are fearful of light magic users.” I tell them.

“We’ll pull out the games,” Cam says. “That should help relax them.”

“Ernest, why are they scared of light magic users?” Nora asks, looking confused. Her broken arm in a plaster cast resting in a sling, and a bandage on her head from the stitches she needed for a deep cut on her forehead.

“Not everyone who uses light magic are good people, just like not everyone who uses dark magic are bad. All magic can be abused,” I tell her gently.

She shakes her head and then frowns. “We’ll show them light magic is good and can be fun.”

“How are you feeling about having a true dark witch in town?” Ben asks Adhan.

“Okay actually. Sly seems like a decent enough chap. I think the family will be a good fit for the town.” Adhan replied.

“That’s another reason why I want them to meet us all. To show we’re no threat to them,” I say.

“Plus, Ebby makes chocolate, for that alone they need to move here,” Alfred says, grinning.

“I like chocolate,” Nora says happily.

Cam strokes her hair. “I’ll buy you some later.”

Nora leans into his side.

“How are you feeling today, Nora?” Temp asks her.

“My head hurts and my arm hurts like a lot. I don’t understand why I can’t use magic to fix my arm quickly,” she grumbles.

“Because you had x-rays. Magic is helping you heal quicker, but everyone at school knows you broke your arm and cut your head open. Your classmates and teachers saw you fall. You can’t suddenly turn up today fully healed,” Justice tells her.

“Yeah, so you can just be a miracle child when your cast comes off in three to four weeks and not six,” Temp tells her. “Elaine, Justice and I will give you daily blasts of magic.”

“How bad is your headache?” Justice asks her, looking concerned.

“Only a little,” she tells him, but her eyes are filled with pain and she is getting paler.

I see Temp grab his phone. I bet he’s messaging Elaine.

“I can give you something for the pain,” Justice tells her.

“Chocolate?” she asks with a quick grin.

“I think we can arrange that Doobs,” Nix says.

Temp’s phone dings. “Elaine is picking me up for work today, she’ll check on you while she’s here.”

“Have Elaine call me if she needs me. I have to get to the surgery,” Justice says.

“Will do,” Temp says.

“I have some child painkillers in my bag, I’ll get them and give them to you Nix in case you want to use them.”

“Thanks, Justice,” he replies.

Justice stands and walks to the hall for his medical bag.

“I’m off to the shop. Nix you have the day off,” Sal tells him standing up.

Nix nods. “Thanks, Sal. I might pop in later though.”

“Thank you for staying with me Nix. Can we sit on the sofa and watch films?”

Nix groans. “Only because you’re injured will I suffer through Disney films with you.”

Nora giggles and looks at Cam, the smile falling off her face. “Can you stay as well Cam?”

I smother a laugh, mind you I’m not the only one. Nora has pulled out her, I’m too cute to say no to and not feeling great look.

Cam laughs. “I have nothing urgent on today, I can stay for a while.”

“Take the day. If anything urgent comes up, I’ll cover for you today,” Adhan tells him.

“Thanks,” Cam says to him. “Disney films it is then little Miss.”

“Can Connie join us?”

As they're talking, Justice comes back with a packet of tablets and hands them to Nix. “She can take two of these, they will cover her for about six hours. They are quite strong so Nora might fall asleep.”

Nix takes them and grins. “Thanks, Justice. Here Doobs, take them now, then you’ll be asleep for most of the day and we can avoid Disney.”

We all laugh at that, except Nora who frowns.

“No, bad Nix,” she says, scowling at her brother. She looks at Cam. “Cam tell him to be nice, I’m injured.”

Cam looks at Nix shaking his head. “Be nice to our sister, she’s injured. Bad Nix.”

“And on that note, I’m leaving,” Justice says, laughing at them, bending down to kiss Alfred goodbye.

“I’ll walk out with you,” Sal says, kissing Jude quickly.

“I need to go as well,” I say, kissing Adhan bye before standing up.

In the end, the three of us leave together.
