23. Katie

Katie knew she had slept soundly when she woke up the next morning feeling as fresh as a flower.

After a quick yawn and a stretch, Katie looked across and saw that Cage was still fast asleep. And snoring loudly too…

Maybe it’s a Daddy thing?

It’s definitely kinda’ cute though.

Even if it does mean I get woken up sometimes!

Katie didn’t want to wake Cage up. She knew that Cage was over-worked as it was. The more rest he could get, the better.

Without making so much as a single sound, Katie eased herself off the bed and felt her feet touch the soft, fluffy rug under her feet.

The days of Cage’s apartment being an ultra-sleek, minimalist bachelor pad were long gone. It was far more comfortable now. Rugs, paintings, and so much more color all over the place.

Katie was happy that her influence was rubbing off on the apartment.

It truly was feeling like home.

A perfect space for a Daddy and Little to cohabit.

Katie walked through the bedroom and towards the kitchen. She had a busy morning coming up so it was a case of very quietly making herself a bowl of multi-colored fruit loop cereal and munching that down as efficiently as she could.

Katie prepared her stuffie Snug a mini bowl of cereal too. This was part of her routine, the only way she would start the day.

How could she even contemplate eating herself if her best stuffie wasn’t also getting his morning food!

Cage would tease her very gently about this. In Cage’s estimation, the only reason Katie prepared the extra bowl for Snug was so that Katie could get a few extra fruit loops for herself.

Cage may have had a point.

But there was no way that Katie was going to admit that. Not even to her Daddy. She’d even risk a paddling to keep that secret intact.

But it wasn’t just cereal that Katie needed to take on board.

She made sure to eat a banana for a potassium boost.

Then take her multi-vitamins.

Oh, and then of course she remembered to prepare a cup of warm water and lemon to ensure that her voice was as well-prepared as possible for a busy morning of recording.

Katie had been doing lots of research on how best to maintain her voice and have it as flexible and robust as possible for all of the voice work it would be doing.

This was Katie’s career now.

It was her passion too.

Katie felt like she owed a great deal of thanks to Cage who had been the one to encourage her. Cage had truly given Katie the confidence to work hard and reach for her dreams.

Maybe the voice work would lead to other kinds of acting too.

Broadway was still part of Katie’s plans at some stage.

But right now, Katie was getting a real sense of satisfaction from working as a voice actor.

She was honing her skills every day.

Attending workshops.

Putting together new showreels to demonstrate her range.

It was all so exciting.

Katie just wished that Cage felt the same way about his work. Katie knew that Cage had been a brilliant officer, and then detective. The police had given a lot to Cage in terms of building his skill sets and turning him into a confident and intelligent Daddy.

But Katie could also see that the police work had worn Cage down. The death of Cage’s partner had played a big role in that. But it was the never-ending workload and sometimes repetitive nature of things that Cage struggled with.

Katie sighed.

Maybe one day Cage could find the same satisfaction as Katie had in her work.

Speaking of which, Katie finished off her cereal and walked into the small closet room that had been converted into her very own home studio.

Cage had arranged for it to be professionally sound proofed with the best quality materials. Katie’s computer and recording setup was absolutely perfect too.

It had actually been a lot of fun for Katie to work on the technical side. It was a skill she never realized she had until she started committing to learning about it.

Again, this was another huge influence that had come from Cage. Katie was now able to record and manipulate her voice to a high level. This included adding background sounds too. It could be a bustling New York street, or the calming sound of a mountain stream.

Pretty much anything was possible.

The escapism that it provided was great. Katie loved being able to transport herself into the world of whatever story she was recording. Really immerse herself in whatever situation or scenario the story required.

This also applied to her steamier tales too.

There was still a huge thrill when it came to recording the naughtier parts of stories. A thrill that Cage loved to witness too. Indeed, the pair of them had found that after a recording session was one of their horniest times.

But there was no prospect of anything like that in this moment.

Katie had far too much work to get through.

Katie placed Snug on his customized little Stuffie stool and began some vocal warm-up exercises.

Once she was done, she opened up the script file on her computer and began to record. It was a fun romance novel. One with just the right amount of angst and steam in it.

‘This is going to be brilliant, Snug!’ Katie exclaimed in between takes. ‘Although sadly there isn’t a part for a little pink stuffie!’

Katie continued to record until she was suddenly disturbed by a sound behind her.

It was the studio door opening.

Katie turned around and saw an apologetic looking Cage standing there.

‘Sorry, darling,’ Cage said, still in his pajamas. ‘Didn’t mean to disturb you. We really should get a red warning light for outside the room. You know, like they have in professional studios?’

Katie nodded.

It was another great idea from Cage.

‘That sounds perfect, Daddy!’ Katie smiled. ‘It’s okay, you didn’t disturb me really. I was about to take a break anyway. Shouldn’t you be getting ready for work though?’

Cage smiled.

It was a broad, satisfied smile.

The kind of smile that radiated happiness.

‘Hey, what’s the deal?’ Katie enquired, her mind working hard to try and figure out what was going on with Cage.

‘Okay, I’ve been unhappy with work for a while. You know that,’ Cage said, stepping into the studio and taking a seat next to Katie.

‘Yeah, I know Daddy.’

‘Well, I was talking with Kane and Leo, and they inspired me,’ Cage said, the excitement in his voice increasing. ‘I’m going to hand in my resignation at the police department. I’ll no longer be working for the city, but instead I’m going to open up my own private investigation practice. What do you think?’

Katie took a minute to consider things.

But instinctively she knew it was a winning idea.

It all made sense.

Cage could continue investigating crime and helping people. But he wouldn’t be tied into a system of working that didn’t suit him any longer. He would also be free of the memories of his fallen partner.

‘It sounds incredible!’ Katie beamed.

‘I want to help people who the police can’t,’ Cage continued. ‘’You know, people like you. Littles. Anyone who doesn’t feel like society is seeing things from their point of view. I’ll judge no one. Only help them. Plus, I’ll be able to work the hours that I decide. And go at the pace that suits me. It all makes so much sense.’

Katie couldn’t disagree with a single thing that Cage was saying.

It all sounded perfectly well thought and planned.

Exciting too.

Soon, both would be working for themselves and doing what they loved most.

It sounded corny, but Cage and Katie would be living their personal dreams. And doing it together.

They’d have each other as a support network. Plus of course their friends at the Littleverse Club and beyond.

‘What’s even better is that I can call on Kane and Leo when I need specialist advice,’ Cage said. ‘A detective, doctor and firefighter working together? Maybe it’s not so crazy to call ourselves the Savior Daddies after all.’

‘I’m sure Cassie will be very interested to know that you’ll be spending more time with Kane!’ Katie said, her mind returning to the thought that Cassie and Kane could be good for each other.

‘Ha, yes. But no interfering!’ Cage warned. ‘Too much matchmaking and I’ll break out that paddle on your butt, Mister.’

They laughed heartily.

Katie moved over and embraced Cage, squeezing as hard as she could.

It felt incredible to see Cage so happy with his work prospects. And having fun too. Being lighthearted. Katie knew that their kinks and sexual chemistry would always mean lots of paddlings and naughty fun.

But seeing Cage so happy and relaxed about life was extra special.

‘Okay, I’ll see you later my perfect Little,’ Cage said, standing up and heading towards the door. ‘I need to get changed quickly. I’ve got an appointment down at the station with Sergeant Mase. I don’t know how he’s going to react to my news. Wish me luck!’

‘Luck!’ Katie said, blowing Cage a kiss. ‘You won’t need it though. You’ve got it covered. You’re my Daddy, you always know what to do.’

Cage smiled and left.

Katie was now ready to get down to recording.

It was her first official take for this new project.

Katie put on the headphones, hit record and began to speak…

‘Once upon a time, there was a Little who needed a Daddy. And not just any Daddy. The best Daddy of all time.’
