YaYo #3
Before I could regain consciousness, she launched my phone at my chest. That should’ve been my first clue.
Anytime a woman starts throwing electronics, the conversation was already over.
Swiping water from my face, I picked up the phone and looked at the screen.
At first glance I understood why my morning had started with attempted homicide.
A video. Of course, a fucking video.
The clip showed me in the club dancing with Princess and Russia. What really fucked me up though wasn’t the dancing itself. It was the exact moment the camera caught me looking at Princess while she looked back at me rotating her hips against my print.
“Man, what the fuck, that’s not even what you think it is.
” I tossed the phone to the side. A nigga didn’t even do what he was thinking in that moment on the dance floor and still managed to somehow get caught up in bullshit.
That was the real tragedy. I was getting punished for treason I didn’t even commit.
“Like hell it ain’t.” Kayla snatched the phone back up and stormed out the room carrying the pot she’d used as a weapon. I threw the covers off and jumped up, immediately regretting it because my clothes were still damp from the surprise baptism she’d blessed me with.
“Kayla, bring yo ass here.” I barked, pissed I was soaked.
“Nigga, didn’t I tell you not to have me out here looking dumb?” She skipped down the steps two at a time toward the kitchen.
“Kayla, be reasonable.”
“Reasonable?”
“Yeah.”
“Reasonable?”
The way she repeated it told me she was nowhere near being reasonable. Matter of fact, reasonable had left the building and was in another zip code. By the time I reached the last few steps, she spun around and launched the pot at me. The metal connected directly with my elbow.
“AHHHH!” Pain shot up my entire arm.
“Girl what the fuck!”
“You lucky that’s all I threw!”
The second I tried to charge down the remaining steps, my feet shot out from under me and I slammed onto the floor so hard I thought I cracked a rib.
“Yeah, that’s right, down on the ground where you belong, dog ass nigga.” She flipped on the sink.
“Kayla, I swear to God, when I get my hands on you—”
“Come on, let me see you get up then, fuck nigga.” She took the hose out the sink and began to spray me with it, making the spot even more slippery, preventing me from getting up.
“GODDAMN!”
“That’s for dancing with them hoes!” Another spray.
“That’s for coming home late and fucking me like you wanted to fuck them instead!” Another spray.
“That’s for smiling!”
“Bitch I smile at everybody!”
“Not like that!”
The water made the floor even more slippery, which meant every attempt to get up ended with me sliding right back down like a newborn giraffe. Dropping the hose, she grabbed her stuff waiting by the entry table and jetted out the door.
“Kaylaaaa bring yo ass back here.” But when I heard the roar of my Brabus, followed by the skirt of tires, I knew she was gone.
“What the muthafuck.” I laid there with water dripping from my face, staring at the ceiling.
For a long moment I just laid there wondering how a video I didn’t even participate in had turned into domestic terrorism before eight in the morning.
Crawling over to the steps, I pushed myself up and immediately regretted every decision that led to me ending up on the floor in the first place.
My elbow was throbbing, my pride was damaged beyond repair, and my house looked like somebody lost a water balloon fight with the fire department.
The only thing stopping me from crashing out was the fact that I had a tracker on the Brabus. Kayla could run all she wanted. She could block my number, ignore my texts, even convince herself she got away. She didn’t, not even a little bit.
The woman was driving around Memphis in a vehicle I personally paid for and installed enough technology into to locate it from outer space.
Finding her wasn’t the issue. The issue was deciding how creative I wanted to get when I found her.
Because throwing water on a sleeping nigga felt like an act of war, and I never backed down from a challenge.
“Yeah aight,” I muttered to myself as I limped upstairs.
“Keep laughing.”
The second I got to the bathroom, I stripped out of my wet pajamas and turned on the shower. Hot water hit my skin and washed away some of my irritation. Not all of it. Just enough to stop me from driving around the city looking for my girlfriend before breakfast.
Life had been moving fast as hell. Family drama.
Business meetings. New revelations. Old secrets.
Every time I thought things might settle down, somebody dropped another bomb into the middle of our lives.
At this point I was expecting aliens to land and tell us we had another sibling hidden somewhere. Nothing would surprise me anymore.
By the time I finished showering, I felt human again.
I got dressed, rolled up, and stepped outside onto the balcony for a few minutes to clear my head.
The first pull immediately settled my nerves.
Some people meditated. Some people journaled.
I preferred a blunt and a little bit of silence before dealing with the rest of humanity.
Standing there overlooking the city, I found myself thinking about everything Majeston had said.
The old man had definitely thrown me for a loop.
Not enough to start calling him pops or none of that wild shit, but enough to make me think.
Which honestly pissed me off because I hated thinking before noon.
One thing I knew for sure was that life wasn’t slowing down anytime soon.
The deal me and the triplets had been discussing was too important to ignore.
There were meetings to schedule, numbers to run through, and plans to finalize.
On top of that, me, Kade, and Cassian still had unfinished business sitting on the horizon wearing the name Marius.
That old bastard had managed to evade consequences for entirely too long, and now his luck was running out.
Crushing the rest of my blunt out, I checked the tracker one more time and laughed when I saw Kayla was still moving around the city. I would let her enjoy herself, allow her to cool off, even let her think she won.
Because when she least expected it, we was gone revisit this little wake-up call she blessed me with.
And when we did? A certain somebody was going to learn that two could play this game.
Grabbing my keys, I headed out the door.
I had important shit to handle. But Kayla would absolutely see me about throwing water on a nigga later.
Believe that.
