Kayla #2

Ysis took a shaky breath before continuing, and somehow the news only got worse.

She told me about Sera’s suicide and everything that happened afterward.

Before I could even wrap my head around losing two people in less than a day, she started telling me about the explosion at the Peabody involving Mama Sina and Judge Emory.

“Wait...what explosion?”

“Marius.” She sighed heavily. “That crazy motherfucker showed up with a damn rocket launcher and fired it into the lower restaurant of the hotel.” My hand immediately flew over my mouth.

“What?”

“Mama Sina saw him at the last second. She pushed Judge Emory into the elevator before it hit. The explosion knocked the elevator all the way down to the lower level of the garage. They were trapped down there until first responders got to them.”

“Oh my God.”

“They’re okay,” she quickly reassured me.

“Mama Sina only got a few cuts and burns. Emory hit his head pretty bad when everything came down, so they’re keeping him overnight for observation. Mama Sina refuses to leave his side.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. We hadn’t even been on the plane that long and all of this had happened? It felt like Memphis had completely unraveled the second we took off.

“So where is everybody now, Ysis? Oh my God, we need to come back.”

“We’re at the hospital.” She rubbed underneath her eyes, looking more exhausted than I’d ever seen her. “They’re keeping Emory overnight, but Mama Sina is good to go. She’s refusing to leave his side though.” She let out another long sigh.

“Kade and Cassian already on ten. Ain’t no sense in getting all worked up and flying back down here just to add Yayo to the mix.” She paused before looking directly into the camera.

“Besides, I’m sure whatever my brother got going on down there is important, and I don’t want to hear his mouth. Just come over when y’all get back. Between these babies and all this drama, I’m bound to go into labor early.”

“You sound so tired, Ice.”

“I am, Kay.” She nodded.

“So tired. This war is aging everybody.”

“I know, baby momma, but I promise to come see you as soon as we land. Shit between me and your brother is on the rocks, but we’ll talk more when I see you.”

“Okay.” She managed a small smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Just keep a level head, Kay. You know how he is.”

“I got him, sis. You know that.”

“Oh shit.”

“What?”

“Sera’s mama just walked in here.” Ysis turned the phone slightly, her eyes narrowing as she looked toward something off-screen. “And by the look on her face, I can already tell some shit about to go down. I gotta go.”

“Okay, but bitch I want the details, so call me back.”

“Of course.” She hesitated for just a second before adding, “I mean it, Kayla...watch Isaiah. He's not just operating out of anger anymore. He’s hurting.”

Before I could respond, the screen went black.

For a moment I sat there in complete shock.

Part of me wondered if Yayo already knew everything that had happened, which would explain why he’d been glued to his phone all damn day.

This was fucked up on so many levels, and despite everything that had occurred, it all kept coming back to the elders.

Every secret, every body, every war somehow traced itself back to decisions they made years before any of us had a say in any of it.

Why couldn’t they just settle this shit so the rest of us could finally move on with our lives?

The vibration of my phone pulled me out of my thoughts.

Looking down, I noticed my Target delivery had arrived downstairs.

I sighed before pressing Yayo’s name and hitting FaceTime.

He answered on the second ring with that same cocky smirk that always managed to get under my skin.

“What, Sourpatch?”

“Don’t ‘what’ me.” I rolled my eyes. “Can you bring my Target delivery up, please? He’s in the lobby.”

He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he leaned back in his chair and looked at me through the screen, taking his time as his eyes traveled over my face.

The corner of his mouth curled into a slow grin before he licked his lips, and just like that, every ounce of irritation I’d been holding on to started slipping away.

My pulse betrayed me, my breathing slowed, and I hated that he still had that kind of effect on me after everything we’d argued about.

“That’s all you want?” A smile tugged at my lips before I could stop it.

“No.” I batted my eyelashes at the camera.

On the other end of the call, he tossed his cards onto the table, finishing whatever hand he’d been playing. He picked up his drink, pushed back from the chair, and started walking away from the casino floor without taking his eyes off the screen.

“Tell me,” He said, voice dropping just enough to make my stomach flutter, “what else you want, Kayla?”

“For you to come fuck me. You’ve punished me enough already.”

“Nah. You ain’t been punished long enough.”

“Isaiah...” I propped the phone up and let my towel drop.

“Come fuck me... pretty please.” I ran my hands over my body, then between my legs, circling my clit.

From where he stood, his eyes went hooded right before he hung up.

Defeated, I picked up my towel, grabbed my phone, and disappeared back into the bathroom.

Standing in front of the mirror, I stared at my reflection longer than I normally would.

Somewhere along the way I’d stopped recognizing the girl looking back at me.

I couldn’t help but wonder where I was going wrong in this relationship and what it was slowly turning me into.

Yayo had blown into my life like a hurricane you never saw coming.

From our very first encounter it had been pure dysfunction at first sight, and somehow that chaos kept pulling us closer instead of pushing us apart.

Now, after spending so much time together, I’d seen more sides of Isaiah than I ever imagined existed.

I’d seen the businessman who could command a room without raising his voice, the reckless nigga who laughed in the face of danger, the fiercely protective man who’d burn the world down for the people he loved, and the little boy buried underneath all that anger who’d never really been taught how to trust anybody.

I loved every complicated piece of him and there wasn’t much I wouldn’t do for that man.

I just wasn’t sure he fully understood that yet.

The problem was, at the first sign of turmoil in our relationship, he ran. Not physically, but mentally. He retreated right back into the version of Yayo that existed before me, the one who kept multiple women around because feelings couldn’t hurt you if nobody ever got close enough to matter.

Seeing him hugged up with those teeny-bopping bitches at the club had pissed me off more than I cared to admit, and it wasn’t even because I thought he’d slept with one of them.

It was the principle of it all, and that was the part he refused to understand.

I wasn’t claiming to be some perfect saint, but how long were we going to keep doing this every time life got hard?

We couldn’t spend the rest of our relationship punishing each other for mistakes neither one of us wanted to repeat.

Letting out a breath, I turned off the bathroom light and walked back into the suite just as the front door opened.

Yayo stepped inside carrying my Target bag.

For a moment neither one of us spoke. He walked straight toward me, and instinctively I reached for the bag.

Before my fingers could wrap around the handles, he caught my wrist with his free hand and pulled me into his chest instead.

“You drive me crazy, you know that.” His breath hit my face, thick with liquor and mint, eyes locked on mine, washing over me like he wanted to rip me apart then put me back together.

“No crazier than you drive me. Now are you going to fuck me or keep talking shit?” The words barely left my mouth before his lips crashed into mine.

He hoisted me up in his strong arms, dropping the bag on the counter.

He didn’t say another word, just stared.

I could see his anger, but underneath it was hurt, rolling off him louder than anything he could say.

I wanted him to know I wasn’t his enemy. I was on his side. He carried me out onto the large balcony overlooking the city and the Strip.

“Do you trust me?” He walked closer to the railing.

“I—I do. But Yayo, what are you doing?”

“Teaching you a lesson you’ll never forget.

” Still holding me with one arm, he unbuckled his jeans and let them drop, then sat me on the flat top of the balcony railing.

My heart rate spiked. He didn’t give me time to think before he slid straight into my slippery folds.

One hand gripped the hearts around my neck, his favorite place, while the other held my hip, keeping me steady.

“Oh fuck,” I gasped, clenching around every inch of him riding the wave already building in my belly as he fucked me slow and deep. He had me literally hanging over the balcony, screwing my brains out.

“You feel that?” he growled.

“Your heart pounding like you could lose your life at any second?”

“Yes Yayo, oh my god right there.” I moaned, clinging to his shoulders.

“Shut the fuck up. I didn’t say you could cum yet, so you better hold it.” My eyes rolled back as I fought to obey. I was terrified but the mix of fear and raw dick had my pussy thumping hard. He slammed deeper, hips circling, flesh slapping loud against mine.

“Look at me while I’m serving you dick like this. I want you to remember this moment. Because if you ever think about having another nigga pull up on you Kayla, I swear to god you gone meet your fucking maker. Do you hear me?”

“I hear you Papi. I won’t do it agaaain.” The words broke into a scream as my body locked up and I came hard, back arching out over the railing as Nevada air kissed my skin. He held me firm, fucking me straight through the orgasm, making me feel as though I was flying.
