Chapter 14
Payton
“Let me walk you to your door, babe.”
He climbs off the bike and takes my hand, locking our fingers together.
Things feel different now between us. Last night and this morning, it’s felt like we’re an actual couple.
He made love to me so many times, taking things slow this time.
Then afterwards, he cuddled me in his arms, and we just talked.
And this morning, he brought me breakfast in bed with a dozen beautiful roses.
It was so sweet and romantic and definitely felt like more.
“So, when will I get to see you again, Cowgirl?”
He turns me around and pins me to my door, his forearm leaning against the wooden frame as he flirts closer.
“When do you want to see me, Outlaw?”
“Tonight.”
My stomach flutters. It definitely feels like more.
“As much as I’d love that, I’m having dinner with my family tonight.”
Every Sunday, my parents expect us all to be home for supper.
I could probably back out, but then my parents will ask questions, and I’m not ready to answer those questions yet.
Not until I know what’s really going on between me and Cage.
If this is truly the start of something, I’ll be more than willing to face my father’s wrath.
But if this is just a casual fling, then I don’t need the headache.
“Then how about tomorrow?”
“I’m free tomorrow.”
“What time do you get off work, babe?”
“I usually get home at four.”
“Then I’ll be here at four o one.”
I can’t help the cheesy grin. He’s an eager one, isn’t he?
“I need to shower first.”
He leans in, teasing his tongue right against my lips, taking the faintest taste before pulling back much too soon. “I’ll shower with you. Then I’ll take you out on a proper date.”
It definitely feels like more.
“It sounds like you’re getting attached, Outlaw.”
“More like obsessed, Cowgirl. Now, give me one more taste to tide me over and then I’ll see you tomorrow.”
I lean up on my toes and kiss him until the low groan is vibrating from the back of his throat. He pulls back, shaking his head.
“Mmm… Can’t get enough of you. Alright, baby. Tomorrow at four. I’ll be looking forward to it.”
Me too.
He kisses my cheek then turns and walks back to his bike, giving me a wink before he climbs on his hot ride and takes off. It’s sexy as hell watching him on that thing. He handles that beast as smooth as he handles my body. Heavens, that man is hot.
As soon as I’m in the privacy of my apartment, I practically squeal. This is really happening.
“Oh no. I’ve seen that look before.”
I stick my tongue out at her as she shakes her head at me.
“I can’t help it, Chass. He’s pretty amazing.”
I feel like one of those dreamy-eyed girls on TV who’s floating on cloud nine.
“I gotta hand it to him; he apologized for acting like an ass. I never knew it was in the male vocabulary.”
That one word melted me on the spot. So did the pain I saw in his eyes. Now, I know what he was going through. I still can’t even fathom him walking in on his girlfriend and his dad together. And here I thought my dad was a jerk, but his wins the prize.
“He spent the entire night apologizing. Over and over again. He…”
She holds her fingers up to her ears singing la, la, la, causing me to crack up.
“Okay, I’ll stop. Tell me how your night was. Did you meet any sexy biker beasts to have some fun with?”
“No, we decided not to stay too much longer. Meg was irritated by that guy she went to school with, and Kota was getting these weird looks from some big scary dude. When some guy asked me if I wanted to be a sweetbutt, I was ready to leave.”
“A sweetbutt?”
“Yep. Apparently, the guys have their own sluts on demand. Those girls that were hanging around actually live there and are at the guys’ sexual beck and call for whenever they need to get off.”
My stomach knots. I really don’t like the sound of that. Does that mean that when Cage isn’t with me, he’s fucking one of them?
“I see the panicked look in your eyes, Payton. And listen, you definitely need to proceed with caution. But just talk to him. Draw your line in the sand that it’s you or them. If he’s smart, there won’t be a question in his mind of who he’s choosing.”
She’s right. I just need to talk to him and let him know where I stand. I’ve already been burned by one man who strayed. I won’t dare get involved with another. And if he says that it’s club life, then as much as it will hurt, I’ll have to walk away.
“I’ll talk to him on our date tomorrow.”
Our first date could end up being our last.
