Chapter 5 #3

“I will look at this as a good thing, and we will move forward. Will I get the opportunity to talk to the planner before the wedding?” He asked.

“She will contact you soon and explain things to you and get the information that she needs from you. We also need to get her protection because she is a cousin and a beautiful one.”

“I guess she is single too?” Carlos assumed.

“That is true. Normally, she wouldn't be the best choice, but she is the only wedding planner in the family that I know of.”

“You think Hector will come after her?”

“Why wouldn’t he? She would have been a better choice for a mate.”

“You’re a wonderful choice.”

“For you. He needs someone who knows how to entertain and behave at council parties. That’s Bea, not me, but she won’t be interested in him, and he doesn’t want to be rejected.” Cally concluded.

There was no denying that the way he had chosen to meet her was when she was under his control.

She knew this was what he would do to any cousin that he set his sights on.

That's why they needed to protect Bea and keep her from harm.

Cally didn't have much respect for somebody who would abduct a female to mate with them.

She thought the world of her cousin and didn't want her forced into anything she didn't want.

It was true that Bea had gone through the change, even though she was single, and that she could fight.

The problem was that anyone could be overwhelmed by numbers or even tranquilized as she had been.

Overwhelming numbers were what they would have to deal with. While it was true he was dealing with mercenaries that weren't the best, even those can have a good day. Her mate was looking at her, and she realized she had stopped eating.

“You're thinking too much, and I think that everything will work out for the best. My pack will be thrilled to have the white wolf visiting.”

“I'm not sure that she will want anyone to know, at least not in advance.

There are those who still want to capture her, and they don't care that she's mated.

Some say there are ways to get around that, but it is painful.

Since she would be the one bearing the brunt of the pain, they don't care.” Cally admitted.

“I've heard that, but I also heard that it had never been done. So, who can say if it's possible or not?”

“I've heard it has been done, but a long time ago.”

“That may just be a legend built out of wishful thinking. I pray to the goddess that we will never find out because there is something completely wrong in doing that.” Carlos offered.

“I agree, but the kind of males that want to do that don’t care.”

It was true that only a dastardly male would put a female through the kind of pain rumor said severing a bond would cause.

The whole thing was so bad that even the council had condemned it and made it illegal.

If it was done and proven, it resulted in a death penalty.

It was the only way to deal with it because it was the only way to free the female from the new bond without subjecting her to the same pain again.

She could only hope that they would never have to find out whether it was possible and whether the council would go through with the punishment they had set. What was best was if no one found out.

She turned her attention back to her food because she was sure that her mate wanted to turn in for the night.

That was one area that they had moved forward because they had sex often.

Cally also couldn't deny that they talked a lot, and she had learned some about him, and he had learned much about her.

It was hard to get him to talk about himself, but she had gotten better at that.

She'd always thought she was a private person, but she had nothing on him.

That might be because his relationships had also always been shallow, and they did nothing more than sexual.

Cally didn't like thinking about all that experience, but she had to admit it had paid off.

He was an incredible lover, and he thought more about her pleasure than his own.

They finished their food and hurried to turn in for the night.

She was already anticipating the pleasure that he would give her, and she would give him in return.

It was morning, and she could barely move.

Last night, there had been more living than sleeping, and now she could feel it.

Since the change, she knew that she wouldn't feel bad for long.

Cally got up, took a shower, got dressed, and headed to breakfast. He was already sitting there waiting for her.

She could smell the aroma of some really good food in her stomach growling like a beast. This would be another busy day once they were through eating and headed to work.

With the extra help Tyne had sent, they were slowly catching up.

At some point, she hoped they would not have to go out all the time and would be able to do other things.

They were using the reward program Tyne liked for his field personnel, but they had to exclude themselves because they always won.

Rewards wouldn't help if they always went to the same person, and no matter how hard they worked, the other teams couldn't seem to beat them.

Some of the teams were experienced, but they simply weren't fast enough to win over them.

She didn't understand why that was the case, and some of the teams were wolves just like they were.

He grabbed the list, and she resupplied the truck, and they headed out to one location after another.

It had been three days since the last attack, and she suspected that whoever was behind it needed to get some more people, since his people kept getting arrested.

“Do you think he's gotten resupplied on people yet?” Carlos asked.

“I hope he never does, but you would think he'd had long enough.”

“That's what I think too, so we'll need to be extra careful today and from now on.”

“Have you not been careful? I know I have.” Cally said.

“You're right, of course. I've never stopped being careful, but I never think it's careful enough. They want to damage us, and I think they are willing to kill if necessary.”

“I agree with you. We’ll have to defend ourselves with the force that is necessary.”

With that said, they were both lost in their own thoughts until they arrived at their first location.

The job went well, and they moved on. Maybe they wouldn’t have any trouble today.

It wasn’t like they didn’t have enough trouble with a wedding coming up, and they would be overrun with guests.

They simply didn’t need to be hunted at their locations, too.

At the fourth location, things happened.

That just showed that wishing did you no good.

Carlos went in but didn’t come out, telling her he’d been taken.

Cally called the pack and told them they needed backup, and she called Damon too.

Damon sent a nearby warden. It was odd that he was leaving wardens so close to them, and she wondered if he was doing it to protect them.

Damon could be harsh, but she’d only seen the best side of him.

That was probably because they were family since he was mated to Marissa, who was a cousin, and she’d always been on the same side as him.

She decided to slip up to the house and find a window to look in.

Armed with two stunners and other weapons, she would fight anyone who came after her.

There was an open window in the back, and she carefully peered inside.

The room was empty, but was it a trap? Those mercenaries she had dealt with weren’t bright enough to come up with a plan like this, but maybe their bosses had.

She wasn’t sure whether she should try to enter that way.

Cally decided to try to see more of the house.

Moving up on one of the sides, she found those windows closed, and the curtains pulled tight so she couldn’t see in.

That made her even more suspicious of the open window.

The front of the house was a place to avoid, so she went back where she'd been and then to the other side. Again, no open windows, and the curtains were pulled closed. She would either have to go through the open window or go around the front and through the door. The decision may need to be made quickly before Carlos is hurt. It was a hard decision to make, but she didn’t see any signs of something that would capture her, and she suspected they thought they could overwhelm her since she had no way to escape the room once she entered it.

Her decision was made, and she pulled herself in through the window.

Cally expected to be jumped immediately, but no one came into the room.

As she moved toward the door leading into the house, she heard two guys arguing.

She dropped to the floor and peered into the room to see what was going on.

Carlos was lying in the corner on the floor, and he looked like he had been beaten up.

From what she could hear of the argument, they were trying to decide what to do with him and if they should let him live until they captured her.

She'd heard enough, and she moved her stun guns into position and fired them at each of them from the floor.

She hurried into the room to release Carlos and then began to tie up the two guys, which wasn't easy to do since they were flapping around and jerking from the effects of the stun gun.

“Thank you. I think they were about to kill me. I worried that they would catch you, too.”

“I'm just glad I got here in time. This was a trap, and they intended to catch me in it, too,” Cally observed. “Do you know how many more there are and where they are?”

“I believe they are all in the house. Most of them will probably be in the living room waiting for you to come to the door.

If they get tired of waiting, they may go outside to see what's going on. Some may be sleeping in the bedroom. These guys were complaining about why some of them get to sleep, and they must watch me.”

They hadn't done a very good job of watching Carlos.

She didn't think they had anything to complain about.

Maybe the guys who had gotten to sleep were the stronger ones in the group, and no one was willing to tell them no.

She wondered how many of them there were.

They had these two, two were asleep, and several were in the living room.

“Should we see who we can take out now?”

“No, someone is coming. They are smart to check on these two, but they should have done it sooner.” Carlos admitted.

The door opened, and a guy walked in and didn’t notice them right away. When he looked at Carlos, Carlos hit him on the chin, and he went down. Cally quickly restrained him, and that was another one down.
