Chapter 11 Travis
ELEVEN
TRAVIS
Six Weeks Later
The phone rang.
“It’s Wendy,” Joey said. “I told her to call this morning.”
“Did you tell her to call at the ass crack of dawn?”
Joey laughed. “No, but you know they get up early.”
We usually did too, but we’d taken a few days off before the camping and fishing season opened and hit us hard.
Grandpa and Wendy had finally gotten in touch to let us know they’d made it to Florida and were loving every second of retirement.
They’d laughed off most of our concerns, and honestly, the things we’d been the most concerned about when they first left didn’t really seem like big problems now since we were running things like a well-oiled machine.
Hell, even Ward was slowly coming around. He didn’t hiss or bat at me anymore, only gave me death glares, so there was hope.
Pete and Wendy were making their way back up to Haven Grove to visit for a few weeks now that the weather was on the upswing.
We were excited to have our grandparents back with us for a while.
And having them to turn to as we officially opened the campground on our own for the first time was a relief.
The best part of it all? Joey and I had decided to keep our relationship a secret and surprise them with it when they got here since they’d up and left us in the winter.
Tit for tat and all of that.
The phone stopped ringing, and I pulled Joey close to kiss his neck and breathe in his sleepy scent.
The phone buzzed with a text.
They were in an area with crappy reception.
They’d call back later.
Which meant we had a whole lazy morning to enjoy.
“You wanna go get a Dark & Dirty and a Maple Monster?” Joey asked.
I wrapped him in my arms and pressed myself against his ass. “No, but I do have a lot of dark and dirty plans for a whole different type of monster.”
We definitely didn’t make it to breakfast.
