Epilogue

Emerson’s moan as she eats her waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream doesn’t fail to shoot heat through me.
It has my dick pulsing even though I was just buried deep inside her against our hotel room wall not even thirty minutes ago.
After four months of bliss together, I’m beginning to understand I will probably never get enough of this woman.
My need for her only grows stronger with each passing day.
Those green eyes pop open, swinging to my scowl with a smirk and a wink.
The damn temptress knows exactly what she’s doing to me, and damn if I’m not here for it.
I never thought after everything I’d been through love like this was in the cards for me—that I was deserving of such a gift—but I’ll be eternally grateful I’m getting it anyway.
I watch mesmerized as her tongue pokes out to swipe a dollop of whipped cream from her upper lip. “Easy there, cowboy. This is a family establishment. You should probably keep the eye-fucking to a minimum.”
“Then you should probably stop being such a tease,” I mutter before taking a swig from my coffee. The light in her eyes has my heart swelling, knowing I’m responsible for it being there.
She shakes her head with a grin. “Where’s the fun in that? Besides, it only builds the anticipation. You can’t deny how good it is when it’s built up so much we explode when we finally get a chance to relieve the pressure.”
I can’t help my chuckle. God, I love this woman. “That may be true, but we’ve already checked out of the hotel, and I don’t know that meeting your sister with a hard-on, ready to rut into you, would make the best impression.”
She shrugs a shoulder. “There’s always the four-hour drive there to relieve some of the tension.”
Fuck, she really is going to be the death of me. I scrub my jaw with a snort. “Damn woman, I thought you being older, it would be you who had to keep up with me, but you test every limit I have.”
“And you love it, just as much as I love your youthful vigor.”
My bark of laughter rings out across the restaurant. “Youthful vigor went out the window years ago. I never thought I would be creaking so much at thirty-six. Are you done objectifying your breakfast, so we can get going?”
She giggles. “Eager to get going now, huh? I suppose so. I’m excited to see Avery and meet her new man. I’m so glad they were able to work out their issues, and she’s loving her new job in Coyote Creek.”
She slides out of the booth, while I leave cash tucked under a cup on the table.
It’s been a busy few months since we met.
Linco panicked after Emerson ended up in the hospital.
Her reports and samples showed real potential for oil, but the incident proved how dangerous the section of land really is and how far the men who use it for nefarious activities are willing to go to keep people out.
They’re now contracting with Lone Star Security to recruit and train a whole security division for their company. I’m overseeing the project. Emerson has moved down to Valor Springs for the time being as infrastructure is being put into place and test wells are being erected.
Things are only about to get busier, so we decided to take a short vacation to visit her mom and then her sister so I could meet them both and she could finally meet her sister’s fiancé.
That has my thoughts going to the ring I’ve got tucked away, waiting for the right moment. I bought it a month ago, and I’m dying to get it on her finger. Lifting her left hand clasped in mine as we walk to the rental car, I place a kiss where it’ll soon be. Hopefully, before this trip is over.
