Chapter 13 #3

I look between them choosing the hoodie, I pull mine off, he takes it throwing it into the car while I pull his on me.

This one is a charcoal gray color and smells incredible.

Shoving my hands into the front pouch pocket I wait for them to remove the tarps so we can take off, but they don’t.

He closes the car up, handing the key over to one of the brothers, collecting a key to another car.

“I’ll let you know if you need to get rid of it or if I am coming back for it. ”

“No problem, you sure you don’t want breakfast?” the guy asks.

“We’ll get something on the road. I want to get her the fuck out of dodge.” He tugs the sweater I didn’t choose over his head. “Thank you for the help.”

“Of course, we will keep checking the news and reports. Hobbes will connect with Virus when they are back from their run.” The guy gives a slap to Carbon’s shoulder. “Drive safe. Keep the car as long as you need.”

Carbon gives a dip of his chin before turning back to me, he grabs my bicep and lead-drags me toward an older model Tahoe.

He pulls open the passenger door, throwing his jacket into the backseat before pushing me to get in.

I go without a peep because I have never seen him like this, and I feel horrible for causing it.

I worry he called in a shit ton of favors and worry about what he might owe.

I want to ask about the car I drove, but I am too nervous to ask.

He heads around the car, getting in the driver seat, shoving the key into the ignition he turns it on.

Rolling his neck. “A prospect brought the fucking car back last night. I don’t know how you found out about that fucking place, but you are never to go back there without running it past me first, got it? ”

I nod.

“Words Harlow,” he demands.

“I got it,” I whisper.

He pulls away from the fence this car was parked by, turning it around then heading out the already open gate with a static wave to those standing around.

Slumping in my seat, pulling the hood of his sweatshirt up over my head, my eyes burn.

I internally scold myself for being so fucking weak.

After thirty minutes of driving, he pulls off the freeway taking me to a coffee shop.

When I don’t immediately get out of the car to follow him, he pauses looks back in through the windshield and lifts his brow.

Taking that as my sign, I climb out of the car, when I reach his side, his hand closes around mine and we walk in.

At the counter he orders us both coffees and the ‘eggy breakfast sandwich.’ He pays with cash, then directs me over to the side wall where he leans against it pulling me into his chest. I don’t fight him because when his arms wrap around my body, pulling me tight against him, the tension leaves his body.

He takes a couple deep breaths, his nose pressing into my hair.

He dips his head lower, his mouth next to my ear.

“You scared the fucking shit out of me.”

My hands come up to clutch at his sides.

He turns his face toward the side of my head, the side of his mouth running against my ear.

“What you did was dangerous as fuck. You could have gotten caught, hurt, killed. Then what the fuck would I have done? Hmm? Did you even consider how that would affect those of us around you?”

Rubbing my face into his chest, hating the fear I can hear in his voice, my guilt grows.

“I am still really fucking mad at you, but I get it. I get why you did it, and I agree with the sentiment, but Harlow, sexy girl, I need you to not take such fucking risks. I couldn’t bear it if something happened to you. ”

“Frank.”

I feel his hand leave my body before returning quickly after he calls back to the employee. “Thanks.” He straightens some. “Come on, we need to get some food in you.”

We collect our coffee and breakfast, making our way back to the car, he holds the door, helping me in.

I settle the coffees in the console, then turn to him when he hasn’t moved to back out of the door.

“We are going to roll by your apartment, you are going to collect some clothes and shit, we are going to get Cauldron, and then you are coming to stay with me. I need to know where you fucking are at all times until your brother is back in town.”

“My dad is in town.” I bite down on my lip because his face dips into a deep scowl with my words.

“You want to tell your dad what you did?” he grits.

Fuck. I shake my head. “I don’t want Mint to know either.”

His face softens, but only a tiny bit. “Should have thought about that sooner.”

I glare at him. “So, we can skip telling Dad but not my brother? What the fuck?”

He chuckles. “Oh no, your daddy is absolutely hearing about this. The difference is whether you want to tell him without a plan in place, or you want us to tell him when we are informing him of the plan.”

I cross my arms over my chest. “That isn’t fair.”

“Tough shit. Eat your breakfast.” He steps back, closing the door before coming around. It takes a few minutes for me to get my emotions under control enough to eat the damned sandwich. Carbon doesn’t say anything, he just drives and eats.
