Chapter 29 #2

“Whenever we meet is fine. But I’m the only one collecting my wife.” I grumble about fucking prospects as I take off into the clubhouse.

I am getting antsy in the office by the time Mint and Hanger show up. Both drop down into chairs at the table. Jolt looks over at me. “Good?”

“Course.” Like I care if he is in here when we chat.

“Why are we doing break down?” Mint gets right to it.

“Cops have been rolling by. With new shit like drones… I don’t want to fucking deal,” Jolt grunts, and I nod deciding I don’t mind him being the one to drop shit.

“Can they just do that? Fly drones over?” Hanger questions, his eyes on me.

I shake my head. “Nah. There are a shit ton of laws, everything from FAA shit to warrants. We are a mixed multi-use property which includes residential, and we fenced the whole property for a reason. Our space is considered a backyard, so they would have to get a warrant to surveil the back lot. The cemetery is private property, and so are all the neighboring properties… which we own and rent out to only our people. If they tried to do it for bullshit reasons we would tie them the fuck up in court. Everything would get thrown out. That’s for sure. ”

Jolt eyes me. “Yeah?”

I nod. “Yeah.”

Jolt chuckles. “Anything I need to update or whatever? Should I get the fences checked?”

“Nah. They are good. Your dad did a nice upgrade on them and they will last. But even if they broke in a section, the fact that they were there, that’s what fucking matters. We still need to be careful because we don’t know why they are showing the fuck up now.”

Jolt nods. “Do I need to call the club attorney?”

“It might be smart to let him know. You want me to do it? He might have some shit for me to brush up on since this isn’t totally my area of expertise beyond property. You just let Bull know?” I suggest.

“On it. Fuck. I should call Vanilla too. We don’t know if this is just an us thing or the area.” Jolt rolls his neck. “Fuck.”

Virus shows up, smiling all big, but it fades just a hair when he sees everyone here is pissed. “What can I do?”

“First, I need you to pull videos for all the dates and time ranges Bon is going to send you. We are going to have you start saving all recording for when cops roll by or harass us. Once you are done… any way to break into the PD’s system?

Figure out why they have a hard on for us right now? ” Jolt asks.

Virus nods slowly. “Sure… but I might ask someone else to do the PD shit. If there is even a whiff of me in there… that would be enough to get them in the gate, right?”

I nod. “Likely.”

Virus rubs his hand against the top of his head in a circular motion. “Yeah, I’d feel better if someone else did it. Maybe the mercenaries? I am fucking good, and they aren’t going to find me in there… but… what if? You know?”

Jolt tugs at his beard. “Makes sense. I’ll ask Bull to talk to them.”

“Might be time for a flush,” Hanger suggests. “Sorry. I know, I’m not council?—”

“Nah, don’t do that. You are always welcome to make suggestions. Something to be said for been there done that. Besides, you’re right.” He tips his head back, staring up at the ceiling, his shoulders roll and he grits out another fuck.

He needs a woman. Seriously, getting to share my life with Harry has been the best thing to ever happen to me.

Better than the club and seeing as she will never turn us away from the club…

I don’t feel any kind of concern on behalf of the club over her being more important to me.

Just knowing I get to see her pretty face and breathe the same air as her at the end of the day.

That I get to wake up next to her. That she will tell me about her day.

Just seeing her fucking smiles—that’s the shit that gives me life.

Jolt needs that.

All of my brothers do. Kev, Hemmy, my brothers-in-law, they are all better for having the loves of their life. Mouse and Jolt are definitely ready, I think Virus is too, but with him my gut tells me it is person specific. My eyes move over Jolt. Maybe him too.

Think of the devil. Mouse drops down into a chair at the table, a to go coffee in his hand.

My eyes move over it and see just “M” scribbled on it for his name.

Mouse has wanted a woman for a long fucking time.

He is looking for someone that fits beautifully within all of his families.

His blood family, Hemmy’s family, us, and the club.

I know she is out there and I hope he finds her soon.

Mouse looks over at me. “What happened? You look tighter than usual. Wait… where is Hem?”

“He went over to the cemetery to catch up with Paige and Mickey. Which… Mint, do you think Wall would mind if Mickey could use his room sometimes?” Jolt asks.

“Wall wouldn’t mind. You know that. Frankly, it’s really an empty room.” Mint shrugs.

“Good, I’ll confirm with Wally and let Hemmy know. I want him here tonight.” Jolt pulls at his beard again. He is stressing about this.

“Bro, it’s going to be fine,” I assure him.

Jolt turns his head to look at me, and I see the tightness at his eyes. “Yeah, I know. I just, fuck something just feels real off and it’s leaving me unsettled.”

Hanger taps a finger on the table catching all our attention. He nods his head at Jolt, “Listen to your gut. Anytime your daddy did… he always ended up right. Lean in.”

Jolt eyes him. “Dad made some real fucking ballsy choices.”

Hanger’s brows pinch. “What’d he do? Clearly, something that I don’t know about.”

Hem snorts from the door. “A whole fucking lot.”

Hanger points at Hemmy. “Jiffy and I fought him hard on keeping shit from you. We both felt he was wrong. I mean, I get it, you were in a bad spot, but… even risking worse, you had a right to know.”

Hem drops into a chair looking at Hanger with surprise. “Just the two of you?”

“And Helium, but for council… yeah. The rest felt your daddy and Anchor knew best.” Hanger shrugs. “Didn’t feel right to keep something like that from you. What felt worse was keeping anyone from helping you find her when you did have your head right. That’s where more of them came to our side.”

“Who?”

Hanger frowns. “Everyone but?—”

“Dad and Anchor,” Hem finishes.

Hanger nods.

“There is more than just that,” Jolt tells him. “There was how we found Hem and Paige.”

Hanger’s brows pinch harder and he seems to be thinking. “Not her dad?”

Hem shakes his head.

“How did we find out?” Hanger’s eyes move around the room and land on Jolt.

“Diego Cortez came to Dad.”

Hanger slumps in his seat. “Fuck. He must have been just a kid himself. Right?”

“Yeah, he was barely eighteen,” Jolt fills in. “I get why he helped, but it bugs me he didn’t let you all in.”

Hanger gives a hard sniff. “I do. He made the right call.”

All of us swing our heads to Hanger. Mint steps into it. “What the fuck do you mean? I mean, right we all agree, good call, but why?”

Hanger looks over at Hem and Hem just shrugs. “Just fucking say it. Obviously, it’s about my dad.”

“If your dad knew… there would have been no deal. He would have tortured and killed the kid. Your dad was real fucked up. Real fucked up. Your mom… son, your mom was not well. She blamed your daddy and the whole thing was just a real bad scene. It wasn’t just you boys—we were all falling apart at the seams.

“Jolt, look… it isn’t my place, but I think you know this comes out of love.

It seems like you’re feeling some feelings about your daddy, and you have every right.

I don’t want to dismiss that. I just want to say…

one thing I know about him was that he did near everything with the intention of doing the best he could for everyone that deserved his care.

“And you’re just like him. Which I count as a damn good thing.

Also, you deserve to look back on your daddy’s legacy with pride and love.

So… cut him and yourself some slack. Just my unsolicited two cents.

” He shrugs. “I’ll let you boys meet, and then you let me know how we should manage things out back. ”

Hanger pushes to his feet, he gives a firm look and nod to Jolt followed by a sad smile to the rest of us. As he is making his way out Jolt calls over to him, “Thank you, Hanger.”

Hanger doesn’t look back, just bobs his head and keeps on going.
