Chapter 16
Carrie
One month later. Astoria, OR.
I paced back and forth in my bedroom, waiting.
All month, I’d been waiting, but now, anxiety was filling me.
He hadn’t come back, and I was holding on to the foolish dream that he would tonight. Between his last visit and his first, it had been almost a month. Now, I was hoping it was the start of a beautiful pattern.
I stayed in the living room until the moon was high in the sky. Then, I took a long shower, hoping he’d be where I found him last by the time I got out.
He wasn’t there.
Tear stung my eyes as I climbed into bed, and I stayed up as long as I could.
My bounty hunter never showed.
