Bronagh

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Cathal explained what the security people used to bring down the drones that the guys outside the walls sent over them.

After the first one went down, they tried two more, as if thinking they’d get a different result or sneak one past. I didn’t really understand everything Cathal said about the weapons, but they worked.

Dad, Murdoch, Cain, and Burke totally understood.

I knew they were impressed and disquieted by what they learned.

After the third drone was defeated, the men held a hasty huddle.

They thought the coverage of darkness protected them, I think.

How wrong they were. The cameras all had infrared modes.

Lighting them up so they are easy to see.

By the time the third drone was down, all the Hounds and any other security personnel who had been in the CC left to protect the grounds, except Alistair, Riley, and Quin.

“Who are the man and woman who stayed behind with Alistair?” I asked Cathal.

“They work with him. The man is Quin, and the woman is Riley,” he answered.

From the way he said work, I understood he meant they were Hounds. Not long after they left, Darragh addressed the group. Some of the moms had gone to be with their kids in the special safe room.

“I want everyone to be assured that whoever these individuals are, they’ll be taken care of.

And the likelihood any of them will get inside the walls is slim, let alone figure out where the secret entrances to the tunnels are; however, those of us who want to arm ourselves.

Declan has opened the armory. You know where to go. ”

Bodies began to move away. Cathal glanced at my dad, his men, and me.

“We’re all armed, so no need to give us anything,” Murdoch stated.

“I figured as much,” my husband said, smiling.

“But my daughter may want to arm herself. I can assure you, she’s more than proficient with firearms. Murdoch trained her himself,” Dad told Cathal.

Cathal smiled at me as he replied to Dad. “Faolán, I have no doubts that she is. Bronagh is forever revealing her many hidden talents. Do you want a weapon?” He directed the question to me.

“I’m not doubting the family and your people, but it would make me feel better to have one. What about you?”

“I’m right there with you. Come with me. We’ll be back in a few,” he said to Dad and his men. They all nodded and remained in place.

As we made our way to the armory, which I was more than a bit curious about, I took in more of the place and then remarked.

“I swear this place is like a Hive.”

Cathal threw back his head and laughed.

“What’s so funny?”

“That name. We got Commune from Kynedi. And now, The Hive. Wait until I tell the family. The Hive sounds so much better than CC. Why didn’t we think of that?”

“You just needed fresh creativity in the family. That’s what we in-laws bring to the table,” I teased.

He wrapped his arms around me and brought me close.

“Mo ghrá, you bring far more than just creativity to the family, so much more. And once we deal with the irritating pissants outside the walls, you and I can explore both our creativity. They’re messing with my honeymoon, those suckers coileach, cock suckers,” he muttered darkly.

“Ahh, you poor baby. I promise, when they’re gone, I’ll make it up to you,” I promised in a sultry tone I knew would turn him on. Cathal groaned, then stopped and kissed me.

It was a few minutes before we finished and made it to the armory, which, I had to say, was very impressive. I wanted to go out and shoot those bastards myself. I was more than ready to start our honeymoon.
