Chapter 21
CHAPTER 21
Roman
“Come on. We’re going to get some burgers at Harrison’s,” Julian said, popping his head through the door.
Grabbing my suit coat, I put it on and exited my office.
“Morgan seems to be in an exceptional mood today.” Julian grinned.
“She’s planning on getting Gregory to confess to murder tonight.” I sighed.
“How?” Parker’s brows furrowed.
“I don’t know.”
We climbed out of the car and entered Harrison’s Tavern.
“The Hamilton Brothers.” Bart grinned. “Three burgers, medium rare, with all the fixings coming right up.”
“Don’t forget a basket of onion rings,” Julian said.
We took a seat at our table. Nessa, one of the waitresses, walked over and set three beers before us.
“Thanks, Nessa.” I smiled. “So, listen to this,” I said to my brothers. “Morgan and Simon Kind got a warrant for a wire. She’s wearing it tonight when we go to Gregory’s house. ”
“Simon Kind? How did he get involved?” Parker asked. “I thought Lambert was the lead detective on the Williamson’s case.”
“He’s in the hospital, so Simon is taking over some of his cases.
“Here are your burgers.” Nessa smiled, setting our plates down. “And a basket of onion rings. Enjoy, boys.”
“I tried to get a warrant for a wire last month for one of my cases, and the judge flat-out refused. Do you mind telling me how little Miss Morgan got one?” Julian’s brow arched.
“She told me that the judge likes her.” I rolled my eyes. “I told her no one in their right mind would voluntarily confess to murder.”
“And what did she say?” Parker asked.
“She said, and I quote, ‘Who said he would do it voluntarily’ and walked out of my office.”
“Oh shit.” Julian chuckled.
“Bro, you know we always teeter on the line of breaking the law,” Parker said. “What’s the big deal? She has her methods; if she can get him to confess, your client will be released from jail, and you win. Who cares how the confession was obtained?”
“I care. I don’t need her landing her ass in jail.”
“Why?” Julian’s eyes narrowed. “Because then you’ll have to stop sleeping with her and defend her?”
“It doesn’t matter anyway. She’ll be heading back to New York when the case is over,” Parker said.
“Yeah, I know.”
“Unless you don’t want her to leave,” Julian said.
“I don’t care. This was always a temporary arrangement,” I said.
“But I think you do care,” Julian said .
“That’s where you’re wrong.” I wiped my mouth with a napkin. “It’s nothing more than a fling.”
When I arrived at Morgan’s suite, Simon was already putting the wire on her.
“How are you, Roman? We haven’t seen you in a while?” Simon asked.
“I’m good, Simon.” I patted his back. “How are Grace and Nora?”
“They’re great.” He smiled. “Okay, Morgan. You’re all set.”
“Excellent.” She smiled. “Are you ready, Roman?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be.” I sighed.
We stepped onto the porch, and I rang the doorbell. Gregory opened the door and stared at us.
“Miss Ashley, what can I do for you?”
“I’m sorry for just dropping by. I tried to call your cellphone, but it kept saying your number was disconnected.”
“That’s odd. Are you sure you were dialing the right number?” His brows furrowed.
“Yep. I double-checked it with the number on your business card. Anyway, I couldn’t wait because I’m way too excited.”
“About what?”
“May we come in? I saw a house for sale, and I need it. I need it right now.”
“Can it wait? My fiancée and I have dinner reservations.”
“Mr. Williamson, I think the sale of a five-million-dollar home is a little more important than dinner reservations,” she said .
“Indeed it is. Come in. I’m sorry, you are?” He looked at me.
“This is my boyfriend, Roman Hamilton,” Morgan spoke.
“The attorney who took on my brother’s case?” His brows furrowed.
“I was the attorney that took on your brother’s case. Unfortunately, there isn’t a case anymore,” I said.
“I’m ready, baby.” A beautiful young woman walked down the stairs.
My eyes immediately diverted to the open-heart diamond pendant around her neck. I glanced at Morgan.
“I’ll have Brendan drive you to the restaurant, and I’ll meet you there, baby. I have some business to attend to first. Apologize to our friends and tell them I won’t be long.”
“Okay.”
He kissed her lips, and she left the house.
“Which property were you interested in?” he asked.
“What a beautiful home you have,” Morgan said, walking around until she was behind him. Suddenly, she had him in a chokehold, and he fell to the ground.
“What the hell, Morgan?”
“Relax. I just put him to sleep. Help me get him up and over to that chair.”
“How the hell do you know how to do that?” I asked in shock.
“My father taught me. Now, come on. We have to get him tied up before he wakes up.”
“Are you crazy?” I asked. “I cannot believe I’m going along with this.” I helped her with Gregory.
She pulled some rope from her bag and tied his hands and legs to the chair. Checking her watch, she glanced at me.
“He should be waking up in a few minutes.”
“Do you do this kind of thing often?” My brow arched .
“No.” She smiled. “Only when it’s necessary. But you can’t be a part of this. I need you to go around the corner. I’ll tell him you left.”
“Good idea.”
Moans erupted from Gregory. He was waking up, so I left the living room and stood around the corner.
