Chapter 26
Chapter Twenty-Six
One Month Later
Parker
I opened my eyes as I felt the breeze blowing through the open windows.
Paige’s head rested on my chest as my arm was secured around her.
We never talked about what Gerald had told her.
I tried once, and she immediately shut the conversation down.
I didn’t push because I promised I wouldn’t.
Paige had her own way of dealing with things, and I needed to respect that.
She stirred, lifted her head, and smiled.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning.” I grinned, kissing her lips.
“How long have you been awake?” she asked.
“Just a few minutes.” I ran my finger across her forehead. “I need to get in the shower and head to the office. I’m buried in work today.”
“Then I’ll go make the coffee.” She smiled.
After showering, I walked into the closet, grabbed my charcoal suit, and stared at the panel that blended seamlessly into the wall, which housed firearms, ammunition, and tactical gear. All strategically placed and safely tucked away.
After dressing, I grabbed my briefcase from the corner of the room, went down to the kitchen, and set it on the stool.
“Your coffee.” Paige smiled, handing me the mug.
“Thank you, sweetheart.” I softly kissed her.
“I’m ready, Parker,” she said, leaning against the kitchen sink.
“Ready for what?”
“To work. I’ve taken time, I’ve processed, and now I’m bored and need to work.”
A sick feeling erupted in the pit of my stomach.
What did she mean? I knew she wasn’t the type of person to sit around and do nothing.
But when she said she wanted to go back to work, what exactly did she mean?
She wasn’t the 9-to-5 type, and I was scared she would start working for Gabriel again and travel the world, doing what she used to.
Which meant she would be away from me for extended periods.
Different scenarios ran through my head.
It made me feel uneasy. But what could I do? I made a promise to her.
“What’s that look for? What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Nothing. I think it’s great you’re ready to get back to work.” I tipped the mug to my lips.
“But?” Her brow arched.
“Nothing.”
“Have you already forgotten that I’m a highly trained assassin who can read a person before even speaking to them?”
I smiled, set my mug on the counter, and gripped her hips.
“You’re reading something that isn’t there.” I kissed her forehead.
“Don’t lie to me, Hamilton.”
“I would never. I have to get to the office. I’ll see you later.” I kissed her one last time before heading out the door.
“What is she going to do?” Julian asked, sitting in my office.
“I don’t know,” I sighed and leaned back in my chair.
“If you want to keep her, you have to go along with whatever she decides, bro,” Roman said.
“I know that. It doesn’t mean I have to like it.”
“Well, you shouldn’t worry about it until she tells you exactly what she’s going to do,” Roman said, glancing at his watch. “I have to get to court. I’ll talk to you two later.”
“I have a client meeting,” Julian said. “Catch ya later, bro.”
Paige
As I was cleaning up the kitchen, the doorbell rang. Looking at the monitor, I saw Harrison standing on the porch.
“Harrison.” I smiled.
“Hello, darling. I stopped by for a chat.”
“Come on in. Can I make you a cup of coffee?”
“That would be great.” He followed me into the kitchen. “How are you doing, Paige?”
“I’m fine.” I smiled. “How are you doing?”
“Good.” He nodded.
“What did you want to chat about?” I asked him.
He stared at me for a moment as silence filled the space.
“Ah, hell. I’m just going to come out and say it. Are you leaving my son?”
“What?” I laughed. “No, of course not.”
He let out a breath. “Okay. Good. Let’s go sit on the patio.”
We took our coffee and sat in the loungers by the pool.
“Why would you ask me that? I love Parker.”
“Because you’ve finished what you set out to do, and my son is the happiest I’ve ever seen him. I was just worried—”
I reached over and placed my hand on his arm. “Harrison, stop. You don’t need to worry. I’m not going anywhere.”
“Does Parker know that?”
“Did he say something to you?” My brows furrowed.
“No. He hasn’t said a word, but I know my son and how he thinks.”
“I’m not going anywhere. I love your son too much. We’re building a life together.”
“Okay then. I’m happy to hear that. I just needed to say my piece to put my mind at ease.
I worry about my sons and their happiness.
It’s all that matters to me. I may not have been the perfect father, but I have loved those boys since the day they were born, and I have no regrets knocking up their mothers at the same time. ”
“You were quite the ladies’ man.” I smiled.
“Were? I still am, darling. Except now, I only have eyes for one special lady.” He winked.
After Harrison left, I headed to The Hamilton Group and went up to Morgan’s office.
“Hey, you.” Morgan smiled.
“Hi. Can you do me a favor?”
“Of course. What do you need?”
“I need you to hack into every security system of the LAPD, FBI, CIA, NSA, and Homeland Security.”
“Why?”
“I need you to erase everything they have on the ‘Judicator.’”
“Yes!” She clapped her hands and then placed her fingers on her keyboard. “Would you like to watch?” She grinned.
“Of course.” I sat down next to her.
As she typed away at her keyboard, her monitors filled with codes.
“Paige?” I heard Parker’s voice from behind.
Turning around, I smiled.
“What are you doing here?” He walked over and kissed me.
“I’m having Morgan erase everything on the Judicator.”
“Good idea.” A smile crossed his lips.
“And look at that.” Morgan grinned. “The Judicator no longer exists.”
