Chapter 24 #2

“Huh, I just assumed they’d be pretty big. Dragon shifters are as big as bear shifters,” Cece said.

“Tell me about it. Both Godfrey and Caz are over six feet and built like brick shithouses. I was looking forward to a deliciously thick dick,” Maisie said.

“What’s the saying? Size doesn’t matter if they know what they’re doing,” Kinsley said.

When Maisie didn’t reply, Kinsley said, “Do they know what they’re doing?”

“Sort of,” Maisie said. “But neither of them blew my socks off or anything. I was a little… underwhelmed.”

“If that’s the case, why are you seeing Caz again this weekend?” Kinsley asked.

“Because bad sex is like bad pizza, Kins. It’s still pretty good.”

Cece laughed, and Maisie grinned at her. “There’s my girl. I’m glad to hear you laugh, babe.”

Cece squeezed her hand before smiling at Kinsley. “Since they apparently have small dicks and are only mediocre at sex, I guess it’s good that you didn’t sleep with a dragon shifter.”

“I’m not sleeping with one because they breathe fire when they climax.” Kinsley sipped her coffee.

“That’s just a rumour,” Maisie said. “Neither of my guys breathed fire, and I even asked Caz about it, and he said it doesn’t happen.”

“How did you meet him?” Cece asked. “He’s from the clan here in Ashdale, I assume?”

“You know what assuming does,” Maisie grinned. “He’s actually from the Avena clan in New York. I met him when I was there a couple of weekends ago.”

“That’s a long drive to get laid,” Cece said.

“Babe, he’s a dragon. One, he comes to Ashdale to see me, and two, he flies.”

Cece blinked at her before laughing. “Oh, right. The whole flying thing because he’s a dragon.”

“Anyway, enough about my love life, let’s talk about how we really need to get Kins out there for a hit it and quit it night of fun.

It doesn’t have to be with a shifter,” Maisie said, “but we do need to get you back into the mindset that sex can be fun when it’s with someone who isn’t a raging narcissistic humpback potato. ”

“Evander doesn’t have a hump nor is he even remotely potato looking,” Kinsley said.

“Agree to disagree on the potato thing,” Maisie said.

Kinsley looked at Cece, and she said, “Sorry, Maize, but I’m with Kinsley on this one. Evander is definitely a narcissist, cheater, and all-around asshole, but he’s also, objectively, the most handsome man I’ve ever met.”

“He is,” Kinsley said. “I was blinded by the handsome.”

“We all were,” Cece said. “He was so attractive, I could barely talk around him when I first met him.”

“You’d better hope your hot polar bear shifter doesn’t hear his mate talking about another dude like that,” Maisie teased.

“I told you - he doesn’t think I’m his mate, just his polar bear does,” Cece said.

“But you like him,” Kinsley said.

Cece sighed. “Yeah, I do. At first, I thought he was a complete dick, but now, I… he’s kind of sweet, and he’s smart and funny, and I love spending time with him.

But the conduit thing complicates things.

I’m not sure either of us could ever believe the other’s feelings were genuine, or if we’re just after the magic our connection gives us both.

And it would be even harder to determine how I really felt about him if we had sex. ”

She picked at the lid of her coffee cup.

“But it hasn’t even been twenty-four hours since I saw him last, and I feel weird and antsy and wish I had some excuse to get Tori to drive me to his house.

The guy deserves time off from me, I’m literally his job, but I just want to be with him. How pathetic is that?”

“It’s not pathetic,” Maisie said. “When you’re into someone, you want to be around them, like, constantly.”

“I can’t wait to see him tomorrow, but I’m also worried about the sleeping thing. He refuses to keep his door locked, and I can’t stop my magic when I’m sleeping. I can’t keep sleeping in his bed while he sleeps on the damn floor,” Cece said.

“Maybe you could, I don’t know, use a potion or something to stop your magic from carrying you into his bedroom,” Kinsley said.

Cece stared at her. “Holy shit. Magic. Why didn’t I think of that? I’m so bad at being a witch.”

Kinsley laughed. “No, you’re not. You’re just in a ‘can’t see the trees because of the forest’ situation.”

“So, would a potion work?” Maisie asked.

“Not a potion, but a barrier spell would,” Cece said. “I can place a spell around my bed to stop the plants.”

“Cool,” Maisie said.

“Very cool,” Kinsley said.

Cece pulled her phone out of her pocket. “I just need to find the right spell, and hopefully it’s one that I can actually do. If not, maybe I can -”

The front door opened, and excitement crowded into her chest when she heard Briggs’s voice.

“Cece? Where are you?”

“Briggs?” Cece immediately abandoned her friends, nearly running to the living room door and then having to pull up short when Briggs stopped in the doorway.

“Holy shit,” Maisie breathed quietly. “He’s so damn big.”

Cece barely heard her. She stared at Briggs, excitement and trepidation in her belly. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

“I’m good,” he said. “Are you?”

“Fine,” she said. “I thought something was wrong because it’s your day off and…”

“And you’re here again.” Tori appeared, giving Briggs a teasing grin. “You’re starting to give me a complex, big guy.”

Briggs, his cheeks already turning an adorable shade of red, cleared his throat. “I’m here because -”

“Because I called him and asked for his help to replace the door.” Judd joined them, carrying a small Pomeranian. “Hey, Tori-girl.”

“My bear.” Tori reached up and cupped his face, pulling him down to kiss him. “I thought you weren’t going to be here until later.”

“Woke up early.” Judd turned to Cece. “You okay if I let Linda run around? She’s house-trained.”

“Yes, that’s fine,” Cece said.

Judd set the dog down, and she immediately ran into the living room, sniffing the floor, then made a beeline for Kinsley and Maisie when Maisie made a kissy sound and held out her hand.

Cece smiled at Judd. “What do you mean by fix the door?”

“Tori didn’t tell you?” Judd glanced at Tori, who shrugged.

“Figured it could be a fun surprise.”

Judd laughed. “I used to work construction, building new houses, shit like that. I picked up a new door to replace that bullshit one you have now.”

He clapped Briggs on the back. “And this guy’s gonna help. He’ll look real pretty handing me my tools.”

Briggs rolled his eyes as Tori took Judd’s hand. “Before you start on the door, can you come to the kitchen and grab me the tea from the top shelf of the cupboard?”
