Chapter Eleven

SKYE

Three weeks ago shit changed.

After that night in the dining room they haven’t worn the masks.

I’m not confined to Nixon’s room anymore and allowed to wander around the house and grounds.

I may fuck them every day and night, but I’m not stupid enough to let my guard down and think I’m safe because they bury their dicks inside me daily.

I know I am the daughter of their enemy and they have something planned, but I’m just not privy to it.

I spend time with Max and Xyla most days and find I actually like them.

Getting to know Xyla and hearing about her dreams and her plans for her life has me feeling grateful I listened to my conscience and came to warn her brothers to save her.

I mean, do I enjoy spending time with the two older siblings and their boyfriend?

Fuck yes. Those men have me speaking in tongues and bring me to life each time they are inside me.

“I have to tell you something,” Max says in a hushed tone.

I look around and see two guards patrolling the yard but we are far enough away that they can’t hear.

The ground is littered with a sheet of snow, which is weird at this time of year, but the temperatures have dropped and we’ve been blasted with a freak blizzard in late October.

“So, tell me,” I press. He looks to his little sister and shoots her a pleading look, which has her sighing and rolling her eyes. I continue carving my pumpkin in preparation for Halloween, my favorite holiday.

“I promise not to snitch to Ax and Nix,” she vows.

He nods stiffly, then looks back at me, something about the panicked look in his eyes sets me on edge and I just know that whatever he is going to say is about to burst the bubble of the sexed-out bliss I have been living in for weeks.

I try to prepare myself for the blow he is about to deliver.

I feel like an idiot for catching feelings for those three assholes, but you don’t keep fucking someone you hate.

Feelings are given, well they are for me at least.

“I overheard some of the guards talking,” he says.

“And?” I press in an annoyed tone.

He exhales then straightens in his chair.

“Your father and brother are coming here tomorrow.” The color drains from my face.

Suddenly I’m not cold from the snow but from the realization that if Nix, Ax and Ash don’t kill me, my father and brother will.

But, unlike the three guys, they will drag it out and make sure I feel every ounce of pain they inflict on me.

They are sick sadistic mother suckers and will enjoy it.

“Skye?” At Xyla’s panicked tone I shake my head and snap out of my dark thoughts and face her. She looks worried, which tells me she has been trying to get my attention for a while.

“Yeah?” I breathe out.

“We can help you,” Max says.

I scoff. “How?” I bite out.

“The river is frozen. When my brothers fall asleep, you run,” he whispers so low I struggle to hear him.

“I’ll distract the guards. If you go out the back I can cause a scene out the front,” Xyla adds just as quietly.

“How?” I push.

She smirks smugly, then leans forward to whisper in my ear. “I used to sleepwalk. Imagine the frenzy it would cause if I were to walk outside wielding a gun?” I smile at her dark and vengeful side.

“You might just make it in this life after all,” I say proudly.

“Let me sort everything and then I will get word to you,” Max says, then pulls his phone from his pocket and begins tapping away on the screen.

We spend the rest of the afternoon hatching a plan.

I try to mask the hurt I feel over them betraying me but it’s fucking hard.

I try to mask the pain with fake smiles, and try to give my input into the conversation as much as I can while we carve pumpkins to place around their home.

But when the sun sets, we all go our separate ways after saying goodbye.

I’ll admit I had to fight back tears. I’ll fucking miss those two.

I make my way up to Nixon’s bedroom instead of joining them for dinner.

The second I enter the room, I strip off and head for the shower.

I stand under the hot spray and allow the water to cascade over me to mask my tears.

My chest feels like it’s had a sledgehammer taken to it and the pain wants to bring me to my knees.

I try to convince myself that there is no way in hell I could have ever fallen for the three of them.

This time of year is one of my favorites. I love the dark aura that clings to Halloween and how people that are too scared to allow their darker sides out feel safe enough to do so on this one night a year.

It’s the night all the freaks get to come out and play.

With the help of Max and Xyla, I have somewhere to run to and hide out until they can get me a passport and some cash.

I can’t go back to my family, Nixon ensured that when he carved their initials into my chest. Plus, my father would know that I was the one that tipped them off about Xyla.

It won’t just be the VanHoughts I’ll be running from when I escape here, it will be my own family.

I’ll spend the rest of my life looking over my shoulder and I have no one to blame but myself.

When a cold draft hits my back, I spin around and come face to face with Nixon.

He looks murderous and the fact he is covered in blood has my pulse racing and my breathing turning ragged.

The shower is so big it could fit eight people easily, but his hulking presence and the anger wafting off him makes the place feel smaller than a trailer bathroom.

“Treachery is not something I forgive.” My breath hitches and his eyes narrow.

“Huh?”

He steps toward me and instinctively I take one back, making him growl in warning.

I know I should heed it but I don’t. With each step he takes I take one back until my back smacks into the tiled wall, leaving me nowhere else to go.

He places his hands on either side of my head, caging me in and making me feel small.

I only come up to his chest, so I have to crane my neck back in order to maintain eye contact with him.

Water pelts down on him, causing his hair to flop onto his forehead.

Without thinking, I reach up and push the strands back.

The way the air whooshes out of him, how his eyes close and how some of the anger flees him just from my touch has my chest constricting.

I attempt to remove my hand but he growls, so I continue to run my fingers through his hair.

I look down to see the blood swirling around the drain and the sight has me growing feisty and need brimming inside me.

Normal people faint at the sight of blood but not me, it turns me on.

As if Nix can sense where my mind has wandered, he drops his arms and grips the globes of my ass in his hands, pulling me forward so I’m flush against him.

I gasp when I feel his hard cock pressed against my stomach.

“You woke the monster and tamed the hunger inside me.” I startle audibly at his words. Nix isn’t like Ash and Axel, he doesn’t speak unless there is a need. The fact he is willingly offering me his words has me stumped.

“I didn’t mean to,” I answer honestly.

His brown eyes brim with dominance. “The fact you didn’t try is the reason you own him. Betray him and I’ll be nothing but a passenger to the riot he will cause.”

My breath stills in my throat. He knows, he fucking knows I plan to run.

Our intense stare off is broken when Asher enters the shower. He leans his shoulder against the wall beside us. Nixon keeps his gaze on me as I turn my head to the side and lock eyes with Ash.

“Predators are born to hunt. Their killer instinct kicks in when their prey runs.” Asher’s words have my blood running cold.
