Epilogue

Nine months later.

“He looks just like you.” Liberty held Waylon Samuel Ranks in her arms wrapped in a soft blue blanket. He was a month old and he was the cutest baby she ever did see.

“I think he looks like you.” Wyler was beside them, admiring his son.

“He looks like both of us.” She smiled at her husband. “Thank you.”

“For what?” Wyler asked.

“For giving me this life. I’m so happy that I feel like I could burst.”

He leaned in and kissed her. “Thank you, Mrs. Ranks, for making me the happiest man alive.”

“Would you two please get a room, lovebirds!” Freedom came strolling in.to the living room

“Where’s your husband?” Wyler asked.

“He’s coming. I made him carry all the gifts for my nephew.” Freedom smiled proudly. She looked like a very happily married woman.

“I’ll go help,” Wyler hurried to help his brother-in-law.

Freedom sat down next to Liberty and hovered over her nephew. “Hi, cutie.”

“How did the ultrasound go, Freedom?”

“I found out what we’re having.” Freedom was glowing. “I bet you never saw this one coming.”

“No, I didn’t. Or maybe I did. You always did like the chase.” Liberty lifted her son to kiss his tiny cheek.

“The secret to a happy marriage is to always keep him chasing.” Freedom flipped the ends of her hair over one shoulder.

“Are you going to tell me? Boy or girl?” Liberty asked.

Freedom leaned in and whispered the gender into Liberty’s ear.

Not the end, but only the beginning.
