Chapter 16 #2

When she mentioned Troy being dead and King possibly being involved, I knew I couldn’t call him and start asking questions about things that didn’t concern me.

And even though Glen had hurt me deeply… I still didn’t want anything bad happening to him. Taking a slow breath, I made a decision.

I would go back to Mississippi alone next week. Just for a few days. I’d tell the girls at the salon I was taking a mini vacation. I’d check on my mother, stay in a hotel, and keep a low profile then once I made sure she was good, I’d high tail it back to Cali.

I quickly called her back, silently praying that she didn’t open her mouth to Shadonna nor Glen.

“What now, Layloni?” .

“I’ll come next week,” I said quietly. “I’ll bring you money and make sure you’re comfortable.”

She was silent for a second.

“Just keep my secret,” I added carefully. “Glen might think I had something to do with his uncle and—”

“Yeah, yeah,” she interrupted. “Just bring me some money.”

I swallowed my frustration.

“Okay Mom. See you in a week.”

When I hung up, I felt slightly better. Still uneasy, but better.

My heart cracked all over again thinking about the painful fact of possibly being black mailed by my own mother.

The ugly truth was that I loved her more than she did me.

I cared about her wellbeing and didn’t want to see her fucked up while she would turn on me at the drop of a dollar… maybe even a penny.

On the way home, I turned on Pandora and let 90’s R I halted my steps in pure amazement.

“Wow…” My words trailed off as I took it all in.

The backyard didn’t even look real. It stretched out behind the mansion like a whole other world. I had never seen a backyard this big in my life.

Tall palm trees swayed slow in the warm evening breeze.

Thick tropical plants with giant green leaves framed the stone walkway beneath my feet, and burst of orange, pink, and deep purple flowers spilled from every corner.

A massive pool curved through the center of the backyard, the surface of it rippled from the breeze.

Beyond the pool, there were seating areas et up like scenes from a movie.

Cream colored couches circled around sleek firepits. White curtains hung from outdoor cabanas next to daybeds with oversized pillows. If I lived here I would never leave unless necessary. This house looked like a damn vacation home. It reeked of money.

Monty stepped behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me back against his chest. His warmth enveloped me as the music pulsed through the air.

I leaned my head against his chest and slowly started grinding against him to the rhythm of the song. My hips moved naturally, my main goal was to enjoy tonight with him and my friend Rellianah whenever I finally laid eyes on her.

Monty’s dick hardened against my ass, he pulled me closer to him then stuffed his nose in the crook of my neck.

A little smirk tugged at my lips, it made me feel extra sexy knowing I was the reason that had him turned on to the max.

Monty couldn’t keep his hands off my body. His hands roamed all over me.

He smelled just as good as he looked. The masculine scent of teakwood mixed with his natural body scent was very alluring. I was just about to really start working him over with my hips when a strange feeling crept over me.

Like someone was watching.

The backyard was huge, but curiosity made my eyes start scanning the crowd anyway.

That’s when I spotted Rellianah.

She looked beautiful sitting comfortably in Cream’s lap, laughing loudly at something her brother Joel said. Her happiness radiated through the entire group around her. But when my eyes continued moving across the circle…

My heart nearly stopped.

King.

He stood watching me with a pensive gaze.

His eyes dropped down to Monty’s hand holding a handful of my ass.

King lifted his hand and motioned for me to come to him.

Instantly, I twisted up my face and frowned; my eyes flitted over to the dark-skinned woman that stood beside him.

She rubbed up and down his arm with a huge smile on her face like she belonged next to his fine chocolate ass.

My stomach twisted tightly. For a split second, I thought about telling Monty I wasn’t feeling well so we could leave. I refused to let King see me run so I swallowed down my jealously and ignored him completely.

I offered his weird ass my back then wrapped my arms around Monty’s neck.

Monty leaned forward totally unaware of the childish bullshit between King and I.

He full lips grazed against my cheek, easing the extra tension building up inside of me.

We swayed to the music slowly, as I thought of something quick to show King that him and his little bitch was stopping shit but the space between the both of them from watching me so hard.

I knew exactly what I was about to do.

And yeah… it was childish as hell But I didn’t give a damn.

I looked deeply into Monty’s eyes, tilted my head back as his hands tightened around my waist. Without having to be told, Monty leaned down and kissed me deeply.

Our tongues tangled hungrily, my hands ran up and down the sleeves of his shirt.

Monty grabbed both my ass cheeks and squeezed firmly, pulling me deeper into the kiss. The kiss grew heated fast, the kind that made it easy to forget where you were.

I forced myself to pull away before things escalated into us practically dry humping in the middle of the party. Monty was a damn good kisser. That alone earned him some serious points.

“Loni… I need to holla at you real quick.” King’s deep baritone voice caused goosebumps to spread against my arms as the night air intensified the feeling.

I turned slowly in Monty arms, I wanted to frown when I felt his grip loosen around me. When I faced King, I understood why. His jaw clenched, eyes as dark as knight. King loosened the black tie around his neck aggressively and took a step into my personal space.

“Can it wait, King?” I forced out calmly. “I’m with my date.” I smiled politely and attempted to turn back towards Monty.

That was short lived before I was yanked roughly and dragged away in front of everyone. King didn’t give me or Monty a chance to react. His grip tightened as he forced me to keep up with his long strides.

“King, let go—”

I gasped, words cut off by him sharply yanking me towards the sliding glass.

When I looked over my shoulder, Monty stood frozen where we left him.

The disappointment on his face made guilt stab right through my chest. Instead of him heading in our direction to protect me like I expected, he turned on the balls of his feet and walked in the opposite direction. My heart sank.

“Let me go right now, King.” I swallowed down hard, fear crept up my spine as he dragged me to a dark hallway until we reached the nearest bathroom.
