Chapter 45
Suarez took two steps at a time on the staircase.
His heart was pounding in his chest, sweat threatening to drip down his forehead.
He couldn't tell if it was from lack of working out or the worry in his mind.
Ivan's warrant for arrest was out. There was a confirmation from a good source he was seen.
Kayde was missing, his phone was off. It only meant one thing.
He had been played. How could the prime minister do that to him?
He had agreed to work for Ivan to find a weakness to bring him down not because he feared Ivan pressing charges against him and Kayde.
When the prime minister came his way during one of his purchases for ammunition in Ivan's office he made him an offer.
The prime minister asked to pay him to work for him.
Even without the pay he would have agreed since he wanted to bring Ivan down because of his own personal vendetta the money was just a plus.
Now, he was caught in a hoax. He was a pawn to the game of a very dangerous man.
He reached the office his eyes falling on that ruthless assassin always by the prime minister's side.
"I'm here to see Mr Rousell," he said.
The guy sized him up and down like his words were a waste of his good time. He didn't reply just opened the office door for him. Inside the other man was on an animated call laughing with someone on the other line how the plan had gone smoothly.
"It must be him talking about Kayde,"Suarez thought. Rousell finished his call and hung up his face never losing the sparkle it had.
"Detective Suarez, what a pleasure to see you. Would you fancy a drink, you look quite winded?" Rousell chimed. Suarez's eyes turned into slits shocked by the audacity the man had. How dare he pretend he didn't know the reason he was there.
"I'm not here for drinks. I want to know where Detective Williams is?" He questioned.
Laughter reverberated the office making goosebumps form on Suarez's arms. He didn't like the sound of that something must have completely been off.
"That is exactly why we should drink Suarez.
If not for you we wouldn't have achieved what we have today.
There is a warrant for Ivan's arrest for my daughter's kidnapping.
Detective Williams is no longer on the case and you are the lead in that investigation.
Don't you think it's a beautiful outcome? " He jested.
Suarez began pacing around the office his hands going into his hair. The stubble on his jaw was more visible evidence of neglect for the past couple of weeks.
"That was not my question. I want to know where Detective Williams is?" He repeated.
The prime minister's face turned sour. He no longer liked where the conversation was headed.
"Don't use that tone on me Suarez. Instead of worrying where your friend is you should be grateful that now you no longer have competition.
The force is yours to lead and control as you please.
The chief trusts you, my daughter's case is about to get closed, you found the perpetrator and you are worried about Williams who couldn't tell that Ivan Bratan is a criminal.
Stop wasting my time here and go home celebrate the wins while you get some rest. You look like you need a lot of it," Rousell pointed out.
Suarez took out his gun aiming it at the prime minister. The man burst out laughing unaffected by the weapon pointed at him.
"Put it away. No need to use any of your bullets on a man like me.
Besides, if I die you will not find your friend' s body for a proper funeral.
If you know what's good for you I would turn around and act that you and I have never met.
Until then save your bullets for your friend's funeral," he finalized.
"I will let everybody know you are the one who kidnapped your daughter. I have proof of the abuse she has suffered under your roof for years. You are just using Ivan as a scapegoat but it is you who wants her dead. If anything happens to Williams you will also go down," Suarez's threatened.
The prime minister got up from his seat. His face filled with rage. He glared at Suarez his words coming out with venom.
"I am not the one who has your friend. Even if I wanted to I cannot save him. Stop all this nonsense since we both gain something from this. I wouldn't want you lying next to his unmarked grave keeping each other company for eternity would we?" He challenged.
Suarez took a step closer his gun still pointed at him not backing down.
"Whether you kill me or not the evidence is already there.
It will reach the public even if I don't leave this building alive.
My request is simple. Let Kayde go and focus on Ivan that was the deal.
If anything happens to him all media channels will release all your monstrosities.
Initially I thought of you as a father who wants to get justice for his only child.
It turns out you were using me to bait Ivan and get rid of Kayde.
You knew he was on to you. That's why you are getting rid of him.
I found his files all the evidence he collected that led to your daughter's kidnapping. It all leads to you."
Rousell watched the man with disbelief. Words failed him and he sat back in his seat. Suarez put his gun back in his coat.
"You have twenty four hours," he said and left.
Rousell dialed the number he had just hung up on minutes before Suarez got in. The ring on the other side went and a charming voice received the call.
"Mr Prime Minister what a surprise to hear from you again," he said clearly annoyed.
"Mr Marchetti, we have a problem," he said. The person on the other line listened keenly as Rousell explained what had happened. After he finished a chuckle was heard.
"That is indeed a big problem Dave but you see it is not my problem to solve.
I do not take orders from anybody. Who told you that you and I were partners?
You must be gravely mistaken Dave. I hope you like the food in prison.
As a good friend I will visit you whenever I have time that is," the one went dead.
Vance Marchetti amused at the prime minister's predicament.
