Chapter 9
CHAPTER NINE
Callum
A week ago, Zachary came to the club and took a girl hostage.
Before Salvatore could take him down, he pointed his gun at me and pulled the trigger.
The bullet didn’t do too much damage to my shoulder, but the blood loss kept me in the hospital for a few days longer than I liked.
Hospitals have always been my least favorite place to be.
But I’m finally home and back with my sweet girl.
“Don’t ever scare me like that again.” Moira frowns at me.
“I won’t.” I chuckle.
“Have you heard any updates on Zachary?”
“Giacomo said that he’s in the psych ward for the foreseeable future. They’re not sure what made him snap. But they think it was realizing you had moved on with me.”
“That’s fucking insane. We hadn’t been together for two years. And he cheated on me. I told him from the start that was the one thing I’d never forgive. Just like I told you.”
“And I feel the same way. But some men think they can get away with it.”
“All cheaters suck.”
“I agree, my love.” I laugh as my phone rings.
“Hey, Francesco.”
“How fast can you get to the Clubhouse?”
“Maybe fifteen minutes?”
“Awesome. I need to talk to you.”
“That doesn’t sound good. What’s going on?”
“This is something I need to talk to you about in person.”
“Okay, we’ll be there as soon as we can.”
I hang up my phone and look at Moira.
“We need to get to the clubhouse, I don’t know what’s going on, but Francesco sounded concerned.”
We get dressed and jump into the four-wheeler we use to run around the property. When we get to the clubhouse, we can see that Francesco’s not alone. Sebastiano’s there, along with the Lake Renegade Council and Fiorella and Cillian. It must be important if everyones here.
We join everyone in the living room area of the clubhouse and take a seat on the couch. Giacomo nods at Francesco to start.
“Okay, so a few months ago , Cillian asked Sebastiano and me to look into his father. All he knew was that he left when he was a few months old. He had a name and that’s it. His mam had met him and they had a whirlwind romance…which resulted in Cillian.”
“And I’m glad for that.” Fiorella smiles at everyone.
We all laugh.
“When we met Callum, I thought it was interesting that they had the same last name. But they both said that McGregor was a common last name in both Ireland and Scotland. So I didn’t really give it another thought.
Then after we started to look into Cillian’s father, Callum asked us to do the same for him.
It’s taken us a while, but we found out a few things.
First of all, the name that Cillian’s mam had, wasn’t a legal name anywhere.
Neither was the name that Callum’s mom had.
So we did a DNA test on Cillian and Callum.
We should get the results in a few days. ”
Cillian and I look at each other. We talked briefly about what it would mean if we were brothers.
Our stories are so similar that it’s a real possibility.
But then the question is, why would whoever our faither is give us the same last name?
If he didn’t want us to know each other, why do that?
My mam considered giving me her last name, Campbell.
But she said that my faither begged her to give me the McGregor name.
“So the only thing I know from my mam is that the McGregor name was important to him. Whether it was his real name or not, it was important that I carry it.” I say to Francesco.
“Same with me. My mam said that was the only thing he asked for. Well besides my first name starting with a C.”
“Did your mam say that too?” Sebastiano asks me.
“I’d have to ask her, I can call her if you’d like.”
“If you don’t mind, that would help. Because if the C name was important to him, that would give us more to work with.”
“So are you thinking that Cillian and I are brothers?”
“Let me put it this way. If that’s how it turns out, I won’t be surprised.” Sebastiano says as he looks at the both of us.
I nod as I pull out my phone to call my mam.
“Hi, son, is everything okay?”
“Hi, mam. Everything’s fine. Francesco and Sebastiano had a question for you. It’s about my faither. I’m going to put you on speaker if that’s okay.”
“Aye, that’s okay.”
“I know you told me that he begged you to give me the McGregor name. But was there anything else he asked?”
“No…oh wait. He asked that I give you a name starting with a C. I originally picked Cillian, but when I told him, he said that he didn’t like that name.
The second one I picked was your name and he was happy with that.
When he left, you had just turned one and I couldn’t change your name without his consent.
After a while, it felt like he planned it. ”
“My mam said the same thing.”
“Cillian?”
“Hi, Fiona. We’re all here, trying to get as much information we can. We’re figuring out that my mam was told the same things.”
My mam sighs.
“You’re a year older than my Callum?”
“Yes. Almost exactly a year older. So if we are brothers, that man left us and went to you full time for Callum’s first year.”
“Would your mam be willing to talk to me? If she would feel better, I don’t mind flying to Lake Renegade so that we would be with all of you. The cafe is doing great and I’m confident that I could get away for a couple of weeks.”
“I think she’d like that. She’s been wanting to come and visit.”
“I’ll make your flight, mam. When do you want to leave?”
“I can leave whenever. Nora has been doing so well as the head manager.”
“Thank you for everything, mam. I’ll get your flights together and let you know.”
“Okay. Love you, talk soon.”
“Love you too, mam.”
“Okay well now I feel even more confident that you’re brothers.” Francesco says to us.
“But the question is, who’s our faither and why did he do this?” I frown.
