Chapter 50

CHAPTER FIFTY

Galomp was damn fast for a giant. He sprinted up the steps in front of me and the Wolf asshole, taking them two at a time as we raced for the top.

The stairway narrowed until North was shoulder to shoulder with me, his elbow jamming into my side more than once and I shoved him back in kind.

“Fucking smoke stain,” I spat. “Get out of my way.”

“Shut your fish-filled mouth, you cod licking, tuna humper,” North snarled back.

“You are both most creative, but we must press on. We must be united for this night. Even if it is a bother,” Galomp called. “I do not like the flame flapper any more than you do, Ransom Rake.”

“Arcadia,” I hissed.

“No, no I do not believe Miss Everest has agreed to that,” Galomp answered and I scowled at his back.

We made it to the top of the steps in the northern tower in the Vault of Frost and he threw a door open, wielding his sword with a battle cry.

I muscled through the door with North as he tried to get ahead of me, releasing the spines of my Order form along my arms so he yelped like an un-weaned pup. I smirked at him as I made it past, rounding into the large chamber where Mavus had told us Harlon Brook was being held.

I’d always hated that pompous, puffed up peacock, but I’d been glad of a task that didn’t involve a battle.

I could assist in a rescue mission easy enough and North and Galomp could do the killing part if necessary.

I didn’t need to dirty my hands. I was content with my role.

But this large bedchamber was empty. Not a Reaper, nor a Harlon in sight.

“Oh bother,” Galomp exhaled. “We’ve been bamboozled.”

“Mavus,” I hissed. “He lied to us.”

“Or he was wrong,” North muttered. “This is bullshit. I should have stayed with my brother. Now I'm missing all the fun.”

I looked to the Wolf who was apparently keen for a fight and a flash of irritation crossed through me at the realisation that he had no qualms sticking his sword in someone. I was the one lacking in that department.

“What now then?” I looked to Galomp to see if he might have some ideas but North answered instead.

“Now, I’m going to find Kaiser. You can stay here and stick your dick in a narwhal if you like, or whatever Raincarvers like to do with their free time.” North turned for the door but my fist connected with his face before he could make it.

“Shut your damn mouth, Wolf.”

He turned on me with a vicious snarl, lunging like an animal and knocking me backwards onto the large bed.

He pinned me down, choking me and I punched him in the kidney, sending him flying onto his back.

It was my time to get on top of him, my hand knotting in his hair while my other slapped him like the little bitch he was.

“Hey!” he barked and I slapped him again.

He reared up, yanking his hair free of my fingers so some dark hairs came loose in my grip before he headbutted me right in the forehead. I lurched backwards with a yell, swinging for him again but he dodged it, pushing me off of him and jerking his knee into my balls as he went.

I cursed, curling in on myself as nausea hit me, hating that fucking Werewolf perhaps more than anyone else in this world.

North sprang off the bed with a taunting laugh and raced out the door. “Bye whale fuckers!”

“Oh bother,” Galomp sighed. “Did he crush your danglers?”

I released a groan in response.

“You are probably owed that for being a big bully all these years. I will wait until you are ready to go. Then we will leave together.” He sat on the edge of the bed, his weight making it creak as he waited for me to recover.

He patted me on the shoulder while I muttered curses.

“There, there. Karma is a bother but it will be over soon.”
