Chapter 22
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
As soon as they pulled into the driveway in front of Onyx’s house, he quickly whisked Kas inside.
The last thing he wanted was Layla coming out of her house and seeing her baby boy had been in a fight.
He was still pissed with his mother and didn’t want to be in her presence for an extended period of time.
Kalil and Quan filtered in behind them, everyone taking residence in the living room.
Onyx disappeared briefly to let Troi know what happened.
Before returning to the family room, he grabbed two ice packs, a few pre-rolled blunts and a bottle of cognac.
Kas paced the family room floor, clearly ruminating over what had just occurred.
Onyx knew his brother better than anyone and knew his rumination would only cultivate into more anger.
Anger that would have him attempting to go to Yanna’s house, or worse… seeking out Destin for round two.
“Here, nigga. Put this on yo’ head.”
Kas kissed his teeth but accepted the ice pack. “Fuck I need this for?”
“Because you let that nigga clock yo ass in the head, that’s why,” Quan offered.
“Quan, shut up.”
“Why he gotta shut up? You let that nigga rock you one good time… damn Nyx, I can’t get no ice pack for that fucking sucker punch I took?”
“Stop fucking crying, nigga. What, you want him to kiss the shit too?” Kas taunted Kalil.
“Yea, see, I tried to let yo lil’ sneak attack ride because I know you a spoiled, emotional ass baby.
I didn’t retaliate because I understood my fault, and I love my cousin, but now yo ass wanna stand here and talk shit?
” Kalil nodded, removing his shirt. “What’s up, Kas?
‘Cause yo ass ain’t ‘bout to try and carry me like I’m a bitch. ”
“Aye, hell nah!” Onyx interrupted, stepping in between Kas and Kalil.
“Gone head and squash this shit now. I ain’t ‘bout to let y’all fight, and I’m damn sure not about to let y’all do it in my living room.
” It was quiet, neither cousin wanting to speak first. “I don’t care which one of y’all go first, but y’all niggas better start talking. ”
Releasing a sharp breath, Kas went first. “This shit is yo fucking fault, Kalil!”
“What? My fault? How is any of this shit my fault?”
“Because the moment you realized you couldn’t handle her, you should’ve called me. I would’ve been right down there, and none of this shit would’ve happened.”
“So now I’m the pussy police.” Kalil scoffed. “The reason I didn’t pull out my phone and call you was because she was already on my head, knowing you sent me. I was just trying to look out for family, and---”
“Fuck the family, he let the family into his house and the family fucked his bitch!” Quan joked at the wrong time, laughing at his own goofiness.
“Get the fuck out, Quan.”
“My bad, Nyx, my bad, I’mma shut up.”
“Please shut yo big ass up. And I didn’t touch Yanna. All I was doing was trying to be a listening ear for her because she was crashing out behind the shit you did.”
“I didn’t do shit!”
“Well, she thought you did. She said the bitch titties was in yo mouth.” Kalil stated matter of factly, crossing his arms like he’d revealed a big secret.
“It was one fucking titty and the muh’fucka won’t even in my mouth… fuck, it could’ve been I was drunk as fuck and got caught in a moment but that’s beside the point!”
“What’s the point?”
“The point… you fucking Al B. Sure looking ass nigga, is that I didn’t really do shit. I kissed her and maybe sucked a nipple, but I did not… I did not fuck that girl! My dick wasn’t even hard, and I put that on Layla.”
“Don’t put no shit like that on my auntie, nigga. The hell kind of shit you on?” Quan questioned. He’d migrated to the kitchen, where he was preparing himself a sandwich. Since the house had an open concept design, they could all see him.
“Why the hell you in my kitchen eating my shit?”
“Look at me, Nyx, I’m a big nigga. I’m supposed to starve because yo’ brother having a mental breakdown?” He defended, grabbing two small bags of barbeque chips to go along with his sandwich.
“Kas, look, I fucked up, but my heart was in the right place. You know I’d never do anything to hurt you.”
“You was wrong as fuck for keeping that shit from me. I can understand you was fucked up and did some shit you normally wouldn’t, but you should’ve told me after the fact.”
“Like I said, I didn’t want you hurt, but the shit was fucking with me. Yanna texted me to meet her at her mumma’s house so we could talk about it. That’s why I was over there.”
“If it won’t the DJ she fucked then who was it?”
“Mannnn,” Kalil drawled, scratching his head. “A nigga named Trell, but that’s all I’mma say about it. She gone have to tell you the rest, and that’s my final stance on that.”
“Ight, you got yo name, Kas, so accept that much.”
“A name is all I need.”
“So, do you forgive him?” Quan asked, mouth full of turkey and bread.
“Did you see her naked?”
“If I did, I don’t remember any of it. I don’t even remember the ass I got.”
“Then I guess I can forgive it. I’d never let a female come between us, anyway, not even her. You forgive me for knocking you in yo shit?”
“Me not beating yo ass was me forgiving you. I understand it was emotions and shit.”
“Aww, now give him a hug.”
“This nigga irritating as fuck.” Kalil shook his head at Quan, taking a seat on the couch, and everyone else followed suit.
Kas placed the ice pack on the area of his head Destin had managed to clock him in.
His attention was drawn to Troi, descending the stairs with Kian in her arms. She placed the baby on the couch next to Onyx, giving him a knowing look before heading to the door.
Kas knew she was more than likely going to check on Yanna.
“Tell her I hope that nigga was worth it. I didn’t do shit.
You make sure she knows I didn’t fuck that girl, but now, I’m hitting everything that look my way. ”
“Kas—”
“Nah, it’s good. Go ahead and console her like she ain’t dead ass wrong.”
With no rebuttal to his statement, Troi offered him a small smile before exiting her house, leaving the men to finish their conversation.
Yanna released a groan at the burning sensation in her throat as she downed her fourth shot of tequila.
A fifth one was sure to follow, and possibly a sixth, hell even a seventh.
She’d keep them coming until the look of sorrow on Kas’ face was erased from her awareness.
She was going to refill her shot glass and toss back liquor until the little annoying voice echoing in her head stopped telling her she was a fast reacting whore.
Bottle after bottle would be consumed until she no longer felt like the most horrible person in Virginia.
The sound of a key being inserted into her front door stopped her mid shot, her hopes rising thinking Kas had come to talk to her…
yell at her, anything as long as he was talking to her.
Her dream died, and chest deflated when she saw her cousin cross her threshold.
‘Oh, heyyyy T-roi.” She addressed Troi by a name she was called in high school.
“Hey, T-roi my ass… what happened?”
“I forgot Kas was tracking me on that damn app, and I guess he saw me and Kalil were together. He pulled up, Des came outside, and all hell broke loose.”
“I don’t understand any of it. Like, I can’t comprehend why you did that crazy shit at all.”
“Because I walked in his house and I saw them… Kas and Zahra, he---”
“Didn’t do anything. Yes, he had a moment of weakness or whatever because Onyx was being an asshole to him, and he called that girl over. He was wrong for that, but come on now, did the punishment fit the crime?”
“Troian, I walked in his house, and that bitch was on his lap, titty in his mouth, hair all wild. On the same couch, I’ve sucked his dick on plenty occasions.
The same couch we’ve fucked on for hours.
Like, how could he just have her in there like it was nothing, like me and her are interchangeable or some shit? ”
“Okay, so yea, Kas was wrong for how he was with ole girl, but I’mma go ahead and play devil’s advocate by pointing out the fact that his feelings were hurt, and he was drunk as fuck. I don’t think Kas would’ve given that girl the time of day if he wasn’t intoxicated. And---”
“Nah, Troi, you’re not going to sit right here and defend his actions. You not gone use liquor as his excuse.”
“And,” Troi stressed, finishing her initial thought. “Even if he wasn’t drunk and had invited that girl over to fuck… how you call yourself being so mad at him when you kept making it known he wasn’t your man?”
“He knew what it was between us, though!”
“How could he know anything other than what you told him, cousin?
“Ugh! Why is everyone always trying to take up for Kas?”
“Because 9 times out of 10, Kas wasn’t the one doing shit. This was one of those times… you really fucked up, boo boo.”
“I know, and I feel terrible because he beat Des’ ass and Des wasn’t even the one I fucked.” Yanna chuckled. “I don’t know what to do.”
“At this point, there’s not much you can do but give him a little space. Don’t worry though, I’ll be here tonight to keep you company. We can eat and binge any show you want to watch. If you need to cry it out, you can do that too, but I won’t be leaving you.”
“Thanks, Pooh.”
“Now, I’mma need you to explain this whole situation to me starting from Barbados. How did we get to this point? And tell me all about this Trell guy.”
Yanna spent the remainder of the night crying on her cousin’s lap and dispelling her woes. Before she drifted off to slumber that night, she sent a prayer to God that her indiscretions wouldn’t mark the end of her and Kas’ relationship.
