Chapter 45 Ambrose
Ambrose
Biting back a snarl, I stood on a disgusting, broken-down porch.
Facing a fucking iron door, my hands curled into tight fists as my mind warred with itself.
After Sybil’s little show, our bargain disappeared into nothing.
She was dead, and while I mourned the loss of her power, I had gained enough information from Ezra that could squash the fucking rebellion.
Everything was fine until Zephyros found me to tell me that Sybil wasn’t quite dead, that she had become something else—something entirely new.
That fucking insect had found a way to come back to life and, in the process, had somehow become more powerful.
Raising my hand, I pounded against the iron door, waiting until it swung open. John came into view, looking worse than the last time I saw him. His eyes flickered from shock and fear before narrowing on me, his face twisting into a snarl.
“What are you doing here? How did you find me?”
“It’s a lot easier than you think, my dear old friend,” I snipped. “However, I will look past your rudeness as it seems I am, unfortunately, in need of your help.”
“How the hell could I help you, demon?” John asked, the revulsion of my kind clear as day in his voice.
“Fae, John. I am a fae. You and your little group need to expand your horizons, and I am here to help you do just that. It seems our darling Sybil has become the evil you and your cult have feared so much. I know the heretics have been researching for a way to rid the realms of magic. As much as I hate it, I need your help to take away her magic—for good. What do you say to a little partnership? You get rid of my problem, and I’ll give you back your precious daughter. ”
John’s eyes narrowed further, his brows knitting together. “That’s it? We help you take away Sybil’s magic, and you’ll give her back to me? No other strings attached?”
“None whatsoever,” I said, flashing him a smile. “I’ll even allow you and your little club into my realm, learn all the secrets that we have tried so hard to keep from you humans. You can bring your work with you and use our far superior tools to help run your tests.”
John tapped his fingers against his leg, considering my words. “Fine. Bring me Sybil, and I’ll make certain she can never access her magic again.”
