Chapter 17

I’d been nervous since I opened my eyes this morning.

It was the day that Boston’s and my parents were going to meet, and we would officially tell them that we were married.

We’d been plastered in multiple blogs, and my parents had asked on more than one occasion, but I never confirmed it.

I wasn’t sure how my parents would react, especially because I had been with Victor, and I hardly knew Boston.

They did know that Victor and I were on a break before I went to Vegas, and I told them that we had broken up when I got back.

I was certain my mom, especially, would be mad that I got married without her being there.

It wasn’t like I had done it on purpose, but she wouldn’t look at it like that.

I’d been to Boston’s house numerous times, and I was in awe of it every time I arrived at his gate.

The wrought iron gate had two big Bs on the outside of it.

As we waited for the gate to open, I sent a message to the group chat with my friends.

I had been telling them how nervous I was, and they all assured me things would be fine.

We also had been talking about another trip since we didn’t get to spend as much time as we’d planned in Vegas.

When the gate opened, I marveled at how perfectly manicured Boston’s lawn was.

There wasn’t a piece of grass that wasn’t green or too high.

Whoever cared for the lawn did a phenomenal job.

A water fountain sat in the middle of the grass, and I wanted to put my feet in it because the water looked so refreshing.

Once the car arrived near the front door, the driver got out and opened the door for me. I wasn’t used to having a driver, but I wasn’t mad at it, especially because Boston lived thirty minutes away from me.

“Thank you,” I said as I exited the car. I pulled my skirt down and headed to the front door.

Before I could ring the bell, Boston was at the door.

“Hi, Mrs. Brooks.” He pulled me into his arms and kissed the top of my head.

“Hello, Mr. Brooks.”

Boston waved at the driver, then closed the door.

“You know I could have driven myself,” I told Boston as we walked through the foyer.

I loved the entryway of his house. The floor was black and white and led to a double staircase.

Going up the stairs on one side were multiple awards Boston had won over the years.

The house had six bedrooms with seven bathrooms. I wasn’t sure why he needed all those rooms, but I knew his brother had one for whenever he stayed the night.

The room I loved the most was the theater room.

I found myself in there every time I came over.

Boston would always have some type of action movie queued up for me.

“I know you could have, but I wanted you to relax because I know how nervous you are about today.” He wrapped his arms around me and kissed my neck.

“Damn, bro. You gonna let her breathe?” Carter said as he entered the front room.

Carter had been at Boston’s house one day when I came by, and the three of us played golf on the course behind Boston’s house.

“She can breathe,” Boston mumbled against my neck.

I giggled and tried to move away, but he held me tighter.

“Hey, Carter.”

“What’s up, sis. I would hug you, but that nigga won’t let you go,” Carter joked.

“You damn right I’m not,” Boston said. “Get your own wife, and you can hug on her as much as you want.”

Carter shook his head and sat on the couch. Boston had finally released me, and we sat on the couch opposite Carter.

“Anyway,” Carter said, “are you nervous about the parents meeting?”

“I am, but I’m sure they’ll like Boston,” I said as I glanced at Boston. He had his head down looking at something on his business phone, but he looked at me when I said his name. He smiled, put his free hand on my leg, and returned to his phone.

“They sure will,” Boston responded without looking up.

I didn’t feel slighted by him not looking at me, because I knew how busy he was.

He never stayed on his phone for too long when I was around.

Usually, he would respond to important emails or answer calls that couldn’t wait.

For the most part, Boston’s focus was on me whenever we spent time around each other.

I heard people in the kitchen, and my nerves kicked in because I thought it was Boston’s parents.

“He’s trying to act like he isn’t nervous, but he is. He even got shit catered for the day,” Carter informed me.

Knowing that his parents weren’t in the kitchen gave me some relief, but at the same time made my nervousness spike. I wanted to get the initial meeting out of the way.

“I told him I could have cooked,” I said.

Boston had slipped his phone into his pocket and tuned into Carter and me talking.

“You could have, but I wanted you to relax and to spend time with you before they come.” Boston squeezed my thigh. The look in his eyes told me what kind of time he was trying to spend.

“And on that note, I’m going outside. I’ll be back in when the parents get here,” Carter said as he stood. “They should be done in the kitchen, so I’ll make sure they get out.”

I giggled as Carter shook his head and left the front room.

“Now that he’s gone, let’s go upstairs. I want to show you something.” Boston smirked.

I had no problem seeing what he had to show me. It would be another hour or so before our parents were set to arrive. That was enough time to get in, take a quick nap, and get redressed. Since I had stayed at Boston’s house a few times, I kept some clothes here.

“Is that my shirt?” Boston asked as we walked up the steps.

“It sure is,” I told him.

The outfit I had on for the day was cute enough to meet his parents in but still comfortable. I turned one of Boston’s plaid shirts into a skirt, and I wore it with a crop top, a jean jacket, and sneakers.

“I like that shit.”

We walked into his room, and as soon as the door closed, Boston had me pressed against it.

I was glad Carter had gone outside because I didn’t want him to hear Boston and I having sex.

Carter said he would make sure the people left, and I sure hoped they did.

The kitchen was pretty far from the bedroom, so they wouldn’t hear me anyway.

I didn’t have time to worry about any of it once Boston slid inside of me.

A little while later, my parents and Boston’s parents had arrived. We all sat at the table in the dining room, and all the food had been placed in the middle of the table.

We took turns passing plates around, and once everyone fixed their plates, Boston prayed over the food, and we dug in.

“When some man randomly popped up at my house and told me he was taking me to where my daughter was, I didn’t expect him to bring me here,” my dad said as he looked around.

“I’m surprised you even got in the car,” I said to my father.

“Shit, I almost didn’t. I wasn’t going to turn down the opportunity to ride in a Rolls Royce though.” My father shrugged.

Everyone at the table laughed, but I knew my dad was serious. My parents had done well for themselves and lived comfortably, but they weren’t Rolls Royce comfortable.

“How did the two of you meet anyway?” Mrs. Brooks asked.

Boston’s parents were nice, and they seemed genuinely happy when he introduced us. Boston looked more like his mom, and Carter looked more like their dad.

I noticed Carter sit up and smirk. Boston looked at me, then at his mom.

My heart rate increased when Boston said, “Funny story. Y’all remember how Ivy stood me up?

” Both his parents nodded. “Well, we went out later that night, and I saw Harvest.” He reached for my thigh under the table.

“The minute I saw her, my heart skipped a beat, and I had to talk to her. I knew who she was and had a crush on her for a minute. I felt like the universe put us in the same place at the same time. And without a second thought, I asked her to marry me, and she did.”

Everyone’s movements stopped. Carter smiled as both sets of parents’ eyes widened. I grabbed Boston’s hand that was on my thigh. My heart didn’t know if it wanted to speed up or stop. I waited on pins and needles for someone to say something.

After what seemed like forever, my mother was the first one to speak up.

“You know, I saw something about the two of you, but I didn’t think my daughter would get married without her parents being there.

” She sounded a little disappointed, but not mad, so that was good.

“And I asked you about it, and you kept finding ways not to answer. Sneaky little girl you. I’m not mad, but I am. ”

“I totally understand, because the last thing I knew, my son was left at the altar by that floozy, and he has a whole new wife, and I didn’t get to see it,” Mrs. Brooks added.

She also sounded more disappointed than mad.

“For the record, I know who you are, Harvest. I’ve seen multiple ads you have been in.

I may not know much about you, but I have noticed the change in Boston since he returned from Vegas.

I thought for sure he would be sad after what happened, but he’s the happiest I’ve seen him.

I hate that we had to miss it, but as long as the two of you are happy, then I support it. ”

Mr. Brooks nodded, while my father hadn’t said a word.

My father leaned forward and focused on Boston. By now, my heart decided to race because I wanted my father’s approval. Yes, I was grown, but I was a daddy’s girl, and his opinion meant the world to me.

“I can’t say I’m pleased about the whole thing considering the two of you didn’t really know each other.

I’m sure everyone can agree that the two of you are grown, and as long as you both are happy with each other, then the only thing I can do is support it as well.

Harvest is my only child, and my pride and joy. As long as she’s good, I’m good.”

I released the breath I had been holding, and my heart slowly returned to its normal pace.

“Thank you, Daddy.” I reached across the table and squeezed his hand.

“Mr. Green, I know things are a little unorthodox, but I’m serious about Harvest, and I take my vows seriously.

I would never do anything to hurt her. I want to take care of Harvest for the rest of my life and in any capacity she needs me.

I would never dim her light, because in my eyes, her light can’t be dimmed.

She is beautiful inside and out. I have money and a great career, but it’s Harvest that motivates me.

I know it’s sudden, but I feel like Harvest was made for me.

Whatever she wants, I want to provide it for her.

In this short amount of time, I have fallen in love with her.

” He glanced my way, and tears streamed down my cheek.

That was the first time he had said it. I was relieved he did because I’d fallen for him as well.

Boston wiped my face with his hand and leaned forward and kissed me. With his face directly in front of mine, he whispered, “I love you, Harvest.”

“I love you too, Boston.”

I didn’t think it was possible to fall in love as fast as we did, but we did, and I was happy.

“Well, since that’s out the way, let’s eat,” Carter said and everyone laughed.

The rest of the dinner went exceptionally well. By the time it was over, our parents had exchanged numbers. Mr. Brooks and my dad planned to come back to play golf with Boston. And our mothers were already talking about getting their nails done together.

“I’d say that wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be,” Boston said as he closed the front door.

Everyone left, including Carter, so it was just the two of us.

“It did. I for sure thought my dad would blow a gasket, and my mom would cry since she didn’t see me get married.”

Boston wrapped his arms around me and looked down into my eyes.

“Well, today makes officially thirty days since we woke up married.”

“Oh wow. Time flies, doesn’t it?”

Boston kissed my nose and smiled. “It does. But I have to ask you an important question.”

“And what’s your question?”

I was full from all the food we had. We even had key lime pie for dessert, and it was so good. I wasn’t sure where Boston had gotten the food from, but I wouldn’t mind having it again.

“Are you going to stay Mrs. Brooks or nah?”

I looked around the room, then back at Boston. We already told each other that we loved each other, so there was no second-guessing on how either of us felt.

“I damn sure am.” I giggled, but my laughter was cut off when Boston crashed his lips into mine.

Our kiss turned hot and heavy, and the next thing I knew, we were on the couch with my skirt pushed up and my panties pushed to the side. Boston wasted no time sliding inside of me and making love to me as he whispered how much he loved me in my ear.
