Chapter 12
Chapter Twelve
The ringing wakes me. Slapping out a hand, I reach for my phone. But when I pick it up and squint an eye open, I realize it’s not my phone that’s ringing. A mass of dark brown hair covers my chest. Molly.
“Molly, your phone’s ringing,” I say softly, trying to wake her.
She mumbles something incoherent and tightens her hold on me. I reach over and pick up her phone, seeing the name Dad flash on the screen.
“Molly, it’s your dad,” I say, brushing the hair out of her face.
She looks up at me. “Ignore it,” she groans.
“You can’t ignore it. It’s your dad.”
She takes the phone from me, presses the silence button, and throws the device down on the mattress. “See? Easy. Ignore it.”
“Molly, you can’t ignore your dad,” I tell her.
“I just did,” she mumbles.
When her phone vibrates next to me again, I’m tempted to answer it myself. I would never ignore a call from my father. I can’t believe she’s just going to go back to sleep. “Why are you ignoring your father? He’s calling again.”
“Argh, god, you’re annoying when you’re not giving me orgasms, you know that?” She scowls at me and picks up the phone, swiping the screen to answer the call. “Daddy, it’s early,” she says in a much sweeter tone than I’ve ever heard her use on me.
And my cock fucking twitches at the word Daddy. That’s not something I’m going to read into. Although Molly doesn’t miss it. Her eyes travel down to where the blanket covers my waist and a little smirk crosses her lips. Her eyes light up.
“Uh-huh,” she says. “Daddy, I…” She looks right at me, and my cock twitches again. “I’m sorry. I can’t come home this weekend.” She listens again, and something on her face changes. “She’s not going to really know if I’m there or not, so I don’t see why it matters.”
I have no idea what her father is saying to her but I don’t like her expression one bit.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Molly jumps out of bed, her bare ass walking over to the closet, and then she’s pulling out clothes.
“What are the doctors saying?” She nods and sighs.
“Okay, I’m coming today. I’ll let you know when I land.
” She pauses. “I love you too.” The phone bounces onto the bed as she starts digging more clothes out of her closet.
“What’s wrong?” I ask, climbing out of bed and getting dressed.
“Nothing,” she says before yelling out, “Siri, call Angus.”
“Calling Angus,” her phone repeats. I continue to stare at her as she’s rushing around the small room.
“Mol?” A male voice comes over the phone. Why the fuck does she have a male assistant anyway?
“I need to go home. I need you to stay here and make sure the team is doing what they need to be doing.” Her eyes fall to me. “And if that Giuliani prick gives you any trouble, trample him.” She smiles at me.
“Oh, he’s a prick now, because just yesterday you were saying how you couldn’t resist his cock.” Angus laughs down the line.
“I like him,” I say out loud, knowing he’ll hear me.
“Molly, is he there?” Angus asks.
“It doesn’t matter. Having a good dick doesn’t give you concessions when it comes to business, Angus. You, of all people, should know that. Can you book me the first flight out?”
“You don’t need to book a flight. I can take you home,” I tell her, and she stops.
A cough comes over the line. “Uh, Molly, what do you want me to do?”
“Book me a flight and send me the details.” She cuts the call. “What the fuck are you doing?” She turns her glare on me.
“Offering you a quicker way to get home, because it seems you’re in a hurry.” I shrug. “You wanna tell me what’s wrong?”
“Not particularly,” she says. “I don’t need your help, Alfie. I’m capable of looking after myself.”
“That’s why you woke your assistant up at six a.m. to book you a flight?” I laugh.
“It’s his job,” she argues. “And Angus is my best friend. I wouldn’t leave town and not tell him.”
“I’m aware you don’t need my help, Molly, but let me do it anyway.”
“Why?”
“Two reasons: I happen to like you, and helping you fly out achieves my goal of getting you out of my city,” I tell her.
“Oh, I’ll be back. I just need to do something at home. It won’t take long,” she says.
Picking up my phone, I send a message to our pilot, letting him know I need the plane ready. “Your parents in Portland still?” I ask her.
“Yeah. How…? Never mind.” She shakes her head. “You really don’t need to help me, Alfie.”
I get the impression this woman likes to do things herself and doesn’t take too kindly to being offered help.
Which is why I twist this whole thing around and make it about me.
“I’m not helping you, sweetheart. I’m helping myself.
Besides, I was already going to Seattle today. Portland is on the way.”
“Why are you going to Seattle?” she asks.
“Business,” I tell her, picking up my suit jacket and stabbing my arms through the sleeves. Shit, I really need a change of clothes. Once I’ve buttoned up, I grab my phone and call Hudson.
“What?” he answers.
“I need you to go to my house and get me a change of clothes. Meet me at the hangar in thirty,” I tell him.
“Where are we going?” he asks. Not where am I going, but where are we going, which means he’s already up and ready to join me.
“Portland,” I tell him.
“Who was that?” Molly asks when I pocket my phone.
“My brother. You got everything you need?” I look at the overnight bag she’s managed to fill rather quickly.
“Ah, no, I need my laptop.” She runs out to the living room and picks up another bag.
I pluck my shoes off the floor and meet her out there with her overnight bag slung up on my shoulder.
She holds out a hand to take it from me. “I do not need you to carry my bags for me, Alfie,” she says in a firm tone.
“Tough shit. I’m going to because I’m a gentleman, not a fucking animal,” I tell her. “You ready?” I reach out and take the other bag from her shoulder before she can protest.
“If you’re doing this to gain favor from me, it’s not going to work,” she says.
“You have some deep-rooted trust issues, Molly Olive. I’m doing this because you’re my friend and friends help each other.”
At that, she laughs, a full-belly laugh. One I could listen to over and over again and not get tired of hearing. “We are not even close to being friends, Alfie.”
“You let me inside your vagina, Molly. Pretty sure that makes us at the very least friends.”
“Did it ever occur to you that the sex we have is so good because we’re not friends? Because we both know there’s an end date coming soon?”
“There’s always an end date, and I don’t usually fuck the same woman more than once, but you’re… addictive. Also, this isn’t ending anytime soon. You’ve said yourself you’ll be in town until you get what you want, and I have no intention of allowing the Olive Group to move into my city.”
“You know, a friend wouldn’t interfere in my business dealings,” she says.
“A good friend would be honest and tell you their intentions straight up. That makes us really great fucking friends.” I open the door to her suite, and the two soldiers I had stationed there last night step aside.
“Morning. I’m heading to the hangar,” I tell them, knowing they’ll follow in a separate car.
They both nod and walk behind us as I lead Molly to the bank of elevators, my hand possessively on her lower back.
“Are all of your dresses fitted like a glove?” I ask, looking at the black knee-length dress she’s wearing. It hugs her ass fucking perfectly.
“I like my dresses,” she says.
“So do I,” I mutter, staring at her ass as she enters the elevator.
“Stop staring at my ass, Alfie,” Molly scolds.
“Sweetheart, you do not wear dresses like that if you don’t want your ass appreciated,” I tell her.
The two soldiers step into the elevator, and Molly’s cheeks turn pink with embarrassment.
“Don’t worry, if anyone else looks at it, I’ll cut their eyes out,” I whisper into her ear.
Molly frowns, but then she smiles a little and shakes her head. “You’re insane.”
“You don’t know the half of it,” I tell her.
