Chapter 45
FORTY-FIVE

When Nate slipped into my bedroom late that night, my body hummed with anticipation. We’d been spoiled the night before, with no one around to hear us.
“Are you sure Austin is asleep?” I whispered.
“Yeah.”
“Nice game tonight.”
Nate looked at me as if I were crazy. “Are you kidding me?”
“You played well. I wasn’t there for anyone else. It would have been nice to see them win, but you’re not the only guy responsible for that.”
“I guess it’s a lesson I need to learn. My high school team was always in first place. My travel team was also the best in the league. Life finds a way to teach you about humility.”
I pulled back the corner of the comforter and patted the bed beside me.
Nate smiled appreciatively when he noticed that I had nothing on and quickly stepped out of his clothes, sliding in next to me.
The bathroom light cast a warm glow behind him, just enough for me to see the beautiful, hard planes of his body.
Turning towards him, I leaned up and kissed him softly, my hands roaming his body. “I could touch you all night.”
Unsaid was that we wouldn’t have all night. We’d never have the chance to fall asleep next to each other. Stolen moments, muffled moans, we’d always need to be conscious of every single creak of a bedspring.
“Please—” he whispered, as my hand teased his lower belly before moving to his inner thigh.
“What do you need?”
“I need you.”
Moving to straddle his hips, I hovered, his cock inches from me, my tits heavy, teasing his face.
When he captured a nipple, sucking hard before laving it with the flat of his tongue, I bit my lip hard to keep from crying out.
His free hand cupped my other breast as he rolled the nipple between his fingers right before giving it a pinch.
“I need you, too.”
I rubbed the head of his cock on my clit, both of us struggling to be quiet, silent as I showed him that I was ready for him.
His hand went to his shaft, another resting on my hips as he pressed inside at the same time as he pulled me onto him.
My head fell backwards, fist flew to my mouth as I bit down on it to stay quiet.
“Fuck, baby. It only gets better.”
I nodded, overwhelmed with the sensations and the previously unwanted feelings bubbling up inside, drowning out rational thoughts. My hand cupped his cheek, and our eyes locked as I rocked into him.
Where the last few times were hard, there was a marked change in the pace. I studied his face as he searched mine. Tender, not frantic. My head screamed at me, somewhere deep in the back of my mind, my rational brain knew that this was something I wouldn’t be able to come back from.
“I can’t do it,” he said. “I can’t keep my feelings out of it.”
Squeezing my eyes shut painfully, I took a deep breath and let it out, my breath shaky.
“Me neither.” And when I found his eyes again, they anchored me as my orgasm started to roll through me, milking him until he followed me over the edge.
Neither of us attempted to move; our eyes locked as we felt the impact of what had happened.
The rawness of the moment threatened to tear me apart, but he waited to put me back together.
When I collapsed on his chest, his arms wrapped around me, and his chin rested tenderly on the top of my head.
“We deserve this, Livvie.”
I nodded against his chest, feeling a wetness there, the result of tears I didn’t know I’d shed. “We do.”
We lay like that, breathing each other in, still connected, losing track of everything outside of us.
We awoke with a start to the sound of Austin banging on Nate’s bedroom door.
“Nate!” he yelled, loud enough to wake the entire house. I jumped up, scrambling for my shorts and a t-shirt.
“Tell him I went for a run.”
I stared at him, willing the universe to hand me a better option that didn’t involve feeding my brother a lie. “How would I know that?”
“I don’t know, you were up early?”
I slipped out of my bedroom and caught my brother mid-knock. “He went for a run.”
Austin shook his head. “Jesus, he’s not supposed to be running today. The kid needs to learn the value of proper training.”
“I have no idea what that means. But Cooper is still asleep. What’s so urgent that you need to talk to him right away?”
“I was heading to the stadium early, and I wanted to know if he wanted to get a bite to eat together beforehand.”
“Ah, well, go ahead of him. I’ll have him text you once he’s back.”
I slipped back into my bedroom, leaned against the door, and looked over at Nate as we listened for Austin to leave the house, and confirmed that he had driven away.
“I hate this,” I whispered.
“Me too.”
“We’ll figure this out.”
Nate nodded silently and quietly got up and got dressed. He stepped into my space, where I had watched, unable to move, his hand covered my cheek, and tipped my chin up, directing my gaze to his. “What we’re doing isn’t wrong, Livvie. Don’t let anyone out there make you think it is.”
In that moment, I believed him. Maybe it was stupidity, or maybe it was because for the first time in my life, I wanted to believe that this was possible.
