Chapter Twelve

Dax

T ypically, a report of a horde would’ve disrupted my mood, keeping me from pursuing my mate. Never knowing what to expect while I was gone, I’d wonder if Alaina would try to leave me and mark someone else. This time, it’s different. I can leave knowing she’ll be there when I get back. Her intentions were clear before I left. She wants to continue to love me, and I can return it by protecting what we’ve created.

We reach the designated area reported to be littered with a horde, but the grounds were empty. We ran into a few rogues and vampires along the way but not enough to be considered a horde and only after we’ve traveled miles outside of the pack’s borders. Something isn’t right.

“Sam? Who’d you say reported the horde?”
