Coming Home (Devious Eagles MC Book 1)
Chapter One
Dani
We spent hours on the road before stopping for the night at some motel and heading on the road once more.
Now, we are finally pulling up to the clubhouse where my dad lives.
I’m nervous as fuck, but I do want to get to know him. I had always wondered about him, so it’s crazy to think that I finally get to find out what he’s like, and what I missed out on growing up.
When I get out of the car, I can tell that the clubhouse is packed.
There are multiple vehicles and bikes outside, and the noise coming from there is a dead giveaway that either there is a party, or everyone in the club just happens to be here.
“I’m sorry I kept you from this,” my mother whispers as she grabs my hand.
“Let’s just get it over with,” I mumble as my nerves spike.
When we walk into the room, the music is turned off and the room goes quiet.
“Everyone, this is my daughter and her mother. They are under my protection. If anyone fucks with them, they answer to me,” my dad states.
Some men come up and greet my mom and, by the small smiles they exchange, I can tell that she knows them.
I stand off to the side and look around the room.
I still when I see a face that looks familiar.
He walks up to my dad, and I notice his patch says “sergeant in arms.”
“Zeke? What are you doing here? I thought you were off across the country,” I say loudly in confusion.
For the second time, the room is quiet.
“Say that name again,” my father says, giving me a look I can’t name.
“Zeke? Isn’t that your name?” I ask, looking at the man again.
“My name is Zane,” the man says. He looks pale like he has just seen a ghost.
“But…” I am so confused.
“Zeke is the one kid I told you that we never found,” my dad says, and I still at his words.
“He looks so much like you,” I say softly while looking over Zane. I can see the differences now but, at a quick glance, you wouldn’t be able to tell they weren’t the same person.
“He’s my twin brother,” Zane says, not taking his eyes off of me. There is a hopeful look in his eye.
“Are you sure he looks like him?” my dad asks, and it is clear that I need to be very sure before I respond.
I nod my head. “Yeah, Zane has less tattoos and no piercings but, other than that, it’s like I’m looking at my best friend.”
“Best friend? ‘That mean you know how to contact him?” Zane asks. He looks so hopeful, and I think I would pretty much do anything to see this man smile.
I nod my head slowly and pull out my phone. I haven’t talked to Zeke yet; I usually keep him updated on my life pretty often, so I know he has to be freaking out not hearing from me. I just haven’t had time to digest everything yet. He has phoned me a lot of times over the last few days, but I had to put off talking with him to deal with all the news that fell on my lap. I guess now is as good a time as any to talk to him.
No one speaks, and I look up to see all eyes on me. An older couple comes and stands beside Zane, and I can tell from the resemblance that these are his parents. Tears well in my eyes as I think about how I’m about to change my best friend’s world.
I put the phone on speaker and wait as it rings.
“Hey Doll. I’ve been trying to call you for ages, where have you been?” his deep voice says through the phone.
“Zeke,” I say softly.
“What’s wrong? Are you hurt?” he asks, immediately panicking.
“Remember when you said you were adopted, but your memories were hazy from when you were a kid and you felt like there was a part of you missing?” I ask.
There’s a bunch of gasps at my words. I don’t take my eyes off of his family as his mother cries and his father has tears in his eyes. Zane looks at my phone in disbelief.
“Yeah, you know my parents would never tell me who my biological parents were,” he says sounding confused.
“Umm… I…” I have trouble forming the words.
“Why?” he asks, sounding serious.
“I swear I feel like I’m staring right at you. This guy looks just like you,” I say softly.
Zeke sucks in a breath. “What?” he whispers over the phone.
“He said his name is Zane, and he said his twin brother’s name is Zeke. He looks just like you,” I tell him.
Zeke immediately switches the phone call to video and tears fall from my eyes as I can tell how right I was; they look identical.
“Show me,” he says, sounding very serious.
I walk over to Zane with shaky hands.
And I turn the phone in Zane’s direction so he can see his brother as well.
Zeke looks like he’s at a loss for words, and his parents cry when they see their sons face for the first time in twenty-five years.
“Holy shit,” Zeke says. “How is this possible?” he stumbles out.
“I think it’s best you come here. This story isn’t for the phone,” I say when no one speaks. I think the others are too stunned to form words.
“Tell me where you are. I’ll catch the first flight out,” he says immediately.
I give him the details, and he looks back at his family with a sad smile before he hangs up.
“What are the odds?” some guy asks.
“He’s been looking for answers for years. Never could find them,” I say with a shrug.
“What about the family you say adopted him?” his mother asks.
“He’s been my friend for a few years now. We met in high school. Became best friends. He isn’t close with his family anymore. Pretty much cut them out of his life because they were very controlling. They only contact him once in a while to see if he will change his mind and be a part of the family business,” I tell them.
As there is really nothing more to say until Zeke arrives, I begin to meet everyone in the club. They all ask me questions about Zeke, but I only say a little bit. There’s stuff he needs to tell them himself.
Zeke and I were always just friends. We knew that our personalities worked best that way, but we were always, and always will be, with each other through thick and thin.
I’ll need him after what I just went through, and now it looks like he’s going to need me just as much.
I have no doubt what he’s about to find out is going to fuck him up.
I steal glances at Zane all night. He doesn’t say much, but I notice he’s knocking the whisky back like its water.
I feel like the drama is just beginning.
Zane
I feel like my world just shifted for the second time today.
The first time is when Prez walked in with his daughter. There was something about her when I looked at her. Like everything in the world became a blur and only she came into focus.
She is stunning. Which was the first thing I had noticed about her. She has long, dark brown hair and a smoking body. I could picture myself getting lost in her for days and never get enough. She’s shorter than me, but that’s not something I mind.
I never believed that you could know that someone was “the one” from just seeing them from across a room, but I feel it in my gut that she is going to mean something very important to me.
Then she opened her mouth and called me “Zeke”; my missing brother’s name. The one we had been searching for years, but never could find a trace of him.
What are the fucking odds?
This woman changed so much in the club, and she barely walked through the door. It makes me not want to trust her, but I find something very genuine about her.
When everyone starts asking questions, I don’t leave. I want to hear every detail about my brother’s life, even though it’s still painful to hear since I never got to be a part of it.
For all we know, he could hate the club and this life and not want anything to do with it. That thought has me chugging back more whisky as the night progresses.
A hand runs up my arm and to my chest as the perfume I’ve come to tolerate comes through and distracts me from the group talking with Dani.
I turn and see Lydia with a smirk on her face. “Are you wanting some company, baby?” she purrs in my ear, but I pull myself away and slightly nudge her aside.
“Not right now, Lyd,” I grumble.
We had been fucking for awhile, but I told her over and over again that it wasn’t exclusive. Especially when I caught her telling other club whores that I was her man and off limits.
She needed to get the picture that I would never claim her as my Old Lady, but I guess the fact I keep fucking her is sending the wrong message.
It’s time to cut it clean. There is no way I could fuck her anyway now that I have barely taken my eyes off Dani all night. I will have to admit that it’s not just because I want to hear about my brother, but because she’s also fucking stunning. She has light brown eyes, and fucking curves for days. I wouldn’t mind spending a few hours worshiping that body.
“You don’t mean that, baby,” she says while trying to get close to me again.
I give her a cold stare. “I said not now, Lyd. Go find another brother to fuck.”
“You know I have been only fucking you for the last couple months,” she says in shock.
I rub a hand over my face. Yes, I am an asshole who let this go on for far too long.
“I told you that we weren’t together. You are a club whore. Fuck every brother in the club for all I care because you will never be my Old Lady. You were just a hole to fuck. Get it? How many more ways do I have to spell it out for you,” I growl out, annoyed. It’s not until I am done that I realise the room has gone quiet.
“You know that what we had together was more than that,” she pleads with me.
I shake my head in frustration. “No Lyd. Whatever you thought it was, it’s not. I won’t be fucking touching you again,” I try in a soft tone.
I’m starting to get really pissed off. I have let her become way too clingy.
“But Rage…” she starts, using my club name.
“Brother said no. You know the rules,” Prez says, getting up and looking at Lydia with cold eyes.
She huffs but doesn’t say anything as she leaves the room; I assume to go to the room that she shares with the other club whores.
“It’s about time you cut that one loose,” Prez grumbles before slapping me on the back and walking back to Dani.
“Fuck, brother, she’s going to be a problem,” Knuckles says after taking a seat beside me. I nod my head in agreement. I have a feeling I’m going to see more drama from Lydia.
“I shouldn’t have kept fucking only her for so long,” I grumble.
“Why did you?” he asks.
I shrug. “It was easier, I guess. She always came to me, and I needed release. I can see now that I gave her false hopes that I would make her my Old Lady one day.”
“Let’s hope she doesn’t try to mess with Prez’s daughter. You know how she gets when any new women enter the club; no matter who they are,” Knuckles says.
I nod my head. “If she tries anything, then she’s got more than Prez to deal with; she’s got the rest of the club. We haven’t had a club princess in a long time, and I think some of the women don’t realise what that title means.”
“Fuck, we barely know what it means, but I know that means she’s important. Even I can see how much Prez loves this turn of events. It is like his dreams have come true; even if it took a lot longer than he would have liked it to,” Knuckles says.
“Fuck, you know he always wanted a kid,” I say with a chuckle.
We all knew about the one that got away, but he never knew why she took off. I guess now we were getting a better understanding of that. I have a feeling though that there is more to the story that she hasn’t told us yet. The surprise of Dani knowing Zeke had put a pause on that conversation.
I down more whisky as I try to hear more information on my brother. This is, by far, the craziest day I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t be surprised if I woke up form it to find out it was just a dream. It wouldn’t be the first time I dreamt about finding my brother.
Maybe, just maybe, this is finally it.
