Chapter Eight

Dani

The knocking at my door won’t stop. I have a feeling I already know who it is. I haven’t spoken to Zane all day, and there’s no doubt in my mind that Lydia has already talked to him.

I open the door and it’s Zane. He doesn’t say anything, but I step back and let him in my room. Might as well get this over with.

I shut the door, and he paces my room.

“Lydia said she spoke to you,” he states.

I swallow hard. “Yeah, she told me.”

“I don’t believe her,” he says, and I look up at him in shock at his words.

“Why not?” I ask warily.

“For one thing, the timing. She tells me she’s pregnant now after I only told her over a week ago it was over between us. She is known to lie a lot around the club. She always told people she was my Old Lady, but she never was,” he says, not breaking eye contact with me.

“Plenty of people get pregnant that use a condom. I’ve seen it happen a lot,” I tell him.

He shakes his head. “I know that, but I feel it in my gut that she’s lying.”

“Always trust your gut,” I say softly.

“What?” he asks, looking at me in confusion.

I shrug and step closer. “That’s what my mom always told me growing up. I had to always trust my gut. It was always important to her, and I never knew why until we came here; but if you don’t think Lydia is pregnant, then we will find out.”

“My gut told me I could trust you. It has never led me wrong before,” he says while stepping closer and cupping my face in his hands.

“Okay. Then let’s deal with this,” I say softly.

He smiles at me before brushing his lips with mine in a sweet, soft kiss.

It’s over way too quickly, but we have something we need to do.

When we walk out to the main room, Lydia is there looking at me with a smirk. “I hope you said your goodbyes.”

I look around the room and everyone is practically there, including my father. I guess everyone wanted to know what was going on, or how I was going to handle this.

I guess if I wanted a life by Zane’s side or as the club princess, I better start acting like it and put this bitch in her place.

“Now why would we do that?” I ask while stepping closer and looking at her with a confused expression.

She huffs out an annoyed sound. “Because Rage is mine, and I’m having his baby. So obviously you don’t matter anymore.”

I can’t help the smirk that comes to my lips. Her statement has obviously pissed off a lot of the club.

I look over at Zane and see that he has his fist clenched. He seems like he wants to say something. I shake my head, and he gives me a single nod.

It makes me feel better that he’s trusting me to handle this. When I look at my mom, she gives me a thumbs up and a smile.

“Just because you are having his baby doesn’t mean I have to leave. You know I am the Prez’s daughter,” I state.

Lydia rolls her eyes. “That’s what your mom says, but we don’t know that for sure. You could be anyone,” she says dismissively.

My mom is sitting on a stool behind her so I can see the anger take over her.

“Right. Because anyone could lie about a child, right?” I say with a tilt to my head.

“Exactly,” she agrees.

“So, tell me, how far along are you?” I ask.

“Probably eight weeks,” she says with a shrug.

“You don’t know?” I ask.

“Well, I haven’t seen the doctor yet. I only just found out,” she says slowly like I’m stupid.

“That’s great. How’s the morning sickness going?” I ask.

“Why do you care?” she asks, narrowing her eyes at me.

I shrug. “I’m a nurse; I can’t help but be curious. After all, you are carrying a club baby, so it’s only fair that we make sure everything runs smoothly.”

“Right, well I haven’t really had any. That’s why I only just found out,” she says while rubbing her stomach with a pout.

“What about heightened sense of smell? How’s that been?” I ask.

“I don’t know. Fine. When you come to the club, all you can smell is cigarette smoke and alcohol,” she says waving her hand around.

“So, you can’t smell yourself,” I wince with a sympathetic look at her.

“Are you saying I smell?” she screeches.

“You kind of always do. I don’t know how Rage stayed around you for so long,” I say with a disgusted look on my face.

I hear muffled laughter. I bite my lip to stop myself from smiling.

“I do not stink!” she says, and stomps her foot like she’s a toddler.

“What about your last period?” I ask, ignoring her outburst.

“A while ago,” she says glaring at me. “I don’t keep track.”

“She had it two weeks ago,” Zane says, speaking up.

I raise an eyebrow at her. “Is that right?”

“No, I didn’t. You aren’t remembering right, baby,” she says, looking at Zane.

“Then you won’t mind taking a test?” I ask.

“I already peed on a stick. That’s how I know,” she says, losing her patience with me.

I nod my head. “Yeah, I’m talking about a blood test. We can get it done here so that there won’t be any doubt.”

“I’m afraid of needles,” she stutters out.

I look her up and down eyeing the tattoos all over her body. “Weren’t scared enough to stop yourself from getting those,” I say gesturing to her body.

“Our doc on call is on his way to get a blood sample,” my dad says.

“I haven’t agreed to that,” Lydia says, looking panicked.

“Doesn’t matter. You knew that when you signed up to be a club girl, the rules were you could fuck whoever you wanted, but you needed to get tested for STI’s regularly and, if you ended up pregnant, a test would be done followed by a doctor’s appointment and a paternity test,” my dad says sternly.

“Right, but we don’t need a doctor to come. I can make an appointment with mine, and we don’t need a paternity test because I’ve only been fucking Rage,” Lydia explains.

“We are only using a doctor we trust to handle this. That way, we know that the results are not fraudulent,” my dad says.

“Also, you haven’t only fucked Rage,” a voice speaks up.

We all look over to the prospects. There are a couple behind the bar.

“Don’t believe a thing they say. They would say anything to get a patch,” Lydia says as she’s starting to sweat.

“Isn’t trust and loyalty part of that though?” I ask, raising my hand like I am in school which causes a few people to chuckle.

“They would obviously lie to look good,” Lydia says turning back to me with a glare.

“Why would they though? It wouldn’t make them look good to lie to future brothers. It would mean that they can’t always be trusted or loyal,” I explain to her slowly like she did to me earlier.

“Did you both fuck her?” my dad asks, looking at both prospects. They glance at Zane before swallowing hard.

“Yes,” they both say at the same time.

“Well then a paternity test is needed,” my dad says.

“How can you believe them?” Lydia asks, stomping her foot again.

“Because they wouldn’t lie to their president. They know the consequences of that,” my dad says in a cold voice.

“Sorry Rage, she threatened us to not say anything,” one of them says.

Zane looks over at them with a bored expression. “She wasn’t my woman or Old Lady. She can fuck whomever she wants,” he replies.

They both seem to relax at his words.

“However, if I ever catch you checking out Dani, or hitting on her, I will have to cut your dicks off,” he says in a calm tone.

I look at him as my mouth drops open, and he just winks at me. I can’t help but smile this time at him before shaking my head and looking back over at Lydia.

Her mouth is dropped open in shock like she can’t believe Zane would be that protective over me.

“Lydia,” I say, getting her attention.

She looks at me, but her expression doesn’t change.

“Close your mouth. You aren’t on your knees,” I say with a smirk.

I hear a couple of drinks spit out and some choking before everyone bursts out in laughter.

“You bitch,” she says while stomping over to me. Zane steps in front of me before she can get close.

The doctor walks in at that moment. “Okay, whose blood do I need to take?”

“You aren’t touching me!” Lydia screeches.

“Why not? Those are the rules,” Zane says.

I hear her sigh and look over Zane’s shoulder to see her expression drop in defeat.

“Because I’m not pregnant.”

She mumbles it so low that most of the club didn’t hear her.

“What was that?” I ask loudly.

“I said I’m not pregnant! I just wanted to get rid of that bitch. You were mine first!” she says trying to latch onto Zane, but he steps back and out of her way. I move to his side to see Zane’s mother looking gleeful.

“Thank fuck for that,” she says before she punches Lydia hard enough for Lydia to fall to the ground.

“Stay away from my son, or I promise that you will regret it,” she says in a cold tone to Lydia before walking back to Zane’s dad.

“Alright, pack your shit and get gone,” my dad says after standing up.

“You can’t do that! I live here!” Lydia screeches.

“Yes, I can. This is my club, and you can’t be trusted. Not only did you try to claim a brother with a false pregnancy, but you also had a couple of prospects try to lie for you. You also went after my daughter, the club princess. That may not mean something to you, but here in this club it’s fucking royalty,” my dad seethes.

“It’s probably because I don’t have a tiara; that’s why she’s confused,” I say with a fake, sad tone and shake of my head. Several club members laugh.

One of the brothers walks her to her room to watch her grab her stuff, and the doctor says a few words to my dad before he leaves. Everyone else talks amongst themselves.

“Now, because you were tricked by that whore, you guys are pulling double duty this weekend,” my dad says to the prospects who nod their heads. They are looking ready to accept any punishment.

“Fuck, this place is going to be a mess,” one of the brothers laughs out.

One of the brothers chuckles, and I look over to Zane in confusion.

“There’s a party this weekend. We have a bunch of chapters coming,” Zane explains.

I nod my head in understanding.

I feel exhaustion take over now that Lydia is leaving. Lydia cries Rage’s name over and over again until she’s out behind the gates. I am even more exhausted watching her waste all that energy for nothing.

I feel a weight lift off my shoulders now that she’s gone.

Zane

That was fucking brutal.

I feel embarrassed I ever put my dick in that woman. She was acting entitled and crazy. She was talking like we were all beneath her.

I’m so relieved that she was lying though. I can actually take my time to get to know Dani, and now I don’t have to worry at all that Lydia will get in the way of things.

I couldn’t imagine dealing with Lydia for the rest of my life, and it would have been worse for Dani.

The prospects looked scared that I would be upset with them about them sleeping with Lydia. I never gave a fuck who she fucked. That’s why their punishment wasn’t more intense, although cleaning up after the party is going to be brutal.

I had to do it once, and I’m glad I don’t have to do that shit again.

Which reminds me, I need to get something made for Dani so that everyone who comes to the party knows that she’s off fucking limits. She would have needed something anyways, being Prez’s daughter, but I want my name on her.

I know that it’s early, but I feel pretty confident in our future together. It won’t take long to get

“property of Rage” made up and put on a vest. We have plenty of female vests since there aren’t a lot of Old Ladies. The vests have been pretty much sitting there just waiting to be claimed. I just need to get the patches done.

After that shit show, I take Dani back to my room.

She follows me without question but, as soon as we are inside, I close the door, push her up against it, and kiss her like I have been dying to.

She kisses me back just as eagerly. Her tongue slides along mine as we get lost in each other.

My hands move down her body as I grab her legs and lift her up. She wraps her legs around my waist as we continue kissing. I pull away from her lips to kiss along her jaw and neck.

“Zane,” she whispers hoarsely.

“Fuck, baby. The things I want to do to you,” I rasp.

“Then do them,” she says, and I pull back to look at her. I see nothing in her expression but desire, and confidence in her decision.

I crash my lips against hers again. I’m about to show her just how much I want her when there is a knock on the door. “Church!” is hollered.

I pull away and sigh. “Fuck.”

Dani giggles softly. “Maybe another time.”

She loosens her hold around my waist, and I put her on her feet before I compose myself and reluctantly let her go.

Fuck, this better be important.

“I’ll just go see if anyone needs any help in the main room,” she says, and I nod my head.

I see her walk to where Anastasia is sitting, and I hope that they get along. Viking’s Old Lady could use a good friend.

I know that woman has a lot more going on than anyone knows. At one time, she and Viking were happy, but you can see the tension and distance that has been growing between them.

I walk into the room where we hold Church. The table was designed for us. It has an eagle whose eyes seem to follow you wherever you are in the room, which is a bit creepy. Above the eagle reads “Devious,” and below the eagle reads “Eagles.” The table is large enough to fit us all. The room is also soundproofed so that no one knows what we talk about in this room.

“Sorry, did I interrupt something?” Tiny says with a smirk when I take a seat next to him.

I shake my head with a smile. “You know you fucking did.”

Prez takes his seat, and we sit silently so that he can tell us what this meeting is for as soon as possible. I didn’t think that we had any trouble, so I am a bit surprised and quite curious as to what this is all about.

“We have a problem in the west of our territory. We have shipments going missing. I have Rock and Silent looking into it. There are also reports of people going missing. The common factor in both is that although they are employees from different businesses, they are our employees. We need to look into it and see who is targeting people after us. This is our town, and we need to stay vigilant. We need to protect our people,” Prez says.

Fuck, since I help out with security, I will need to keep my eyes open when I cover any business.

The town hasn’t had a problem with us since we have kept them protected for years. We turned it around from the dump and dangerous place it was to a very safe neighborhood.

We created lots of businesses, and gave a lot of people jobs.

We don’t tolerate drugs around here. Although we know some people still do them, we don’t sell. The shipments we run are guns. There is no trading of people here either, so people going missing isn’t a good sign. Someone is definitely going after our territory.

There hasn’t been a problem for years, but nowhere stays quiet for long.

We talk more about the plan. Our tech guy, Whiz, is going to set up more cameras around town since it looks like these people are going through the blind spots. There is also a possibility that whoever is doing this is getting the information from someone in our club. I’d hate to think we have a rat, but we can’t rule anything out.

I also have to head out for another shift since Viking is still on a run. I’d rather spend time with Dani, but I need to do my part.

Fuck. Looks like it’s going to be a long night.
